The majority of foreign registered vehicles I see over here to be motorhomes of somesort; the proximity to Newcastle ferry terminal and the historic city of Durham brings a lot of European visitors over to the North East especially now that the summer is here. This was spotted in the local motorway service station and looked very well used; I imagine its owners use it regularly for cross country jaunts.

You shall not pass... without stopping to see the array of tanks that have suddenly sprung up along the side of the road.

On our way to the next destination we stumbled on a place called Camp Laguna, it's in the Yuma Proving Grounds and has many old tanks and war vehicles on display like an ourdoor museum. Finding this was completely unexpected, in fact we saw the tanks and made a giant U turn to get back to them, what a cool sight on the side of the road!

It was all about boats and ships today. I went down to Greenock (nearer Inverkip actually) to see the Tall Ships off to their next location. Lerwick I believe. Anyway I expected a big group of ships sailing en masse doon the clyde. But it was a rather leisurely one at a time job as, one by one, the tall ships set off on their voyage. It was pretty smart. And it wasn't a bad day either. I'm knackered tho. all that sea air.

Lothian's usual practice is to replace Airlink vehicles every four years. Until March 2010 the 100-Airlink route, between Waverley Bridge and Edinburgh Airport, operated using these Polish built Scania OmniCity double deckers painted in light blue and white, fitted with coach seating, luggage space, and some train carriage like seat and table arrangements.

These buses have now been replaced on the shuttle service by the new state-of-the-art Volvo B9TL's and as of October 2010 the Scania's will operate mostly on Service 35 between Ocean Terminal and the airport in new madder-and-white.

Not since the Alexnader Royales have we seen double deckers in madder-and-white with vertical-drop fronts like this and wrap-around windows. How very distinctive the design of this four year old fleet is and there can be little doubt they are clearly not made in Great Britain (well the British Isles) - the first non-British fleet ever that Edinburgh (Lothian) has operated on normal public service vehicles (there have been tour buses from the Continent before).

This is Waterloo Place and high up on Calton Hill the visitor and resident can find a myriad of glorious buildings and monuments. This is the Dugald Stewart Monument of 1831, by William Henry Playfair and modelled on the Tower of the Winds in Athens, Greece by Lysicrates. It's arguably one of the structures on Calton Hill that help earn Edinburgh the title 'Athens of the North'.

The Dugald Stewart Monument forms a superb vantage point for the city and is always a magnet for the visitor and photographer.

Finally finished this roughly 1:10 scale project I've started long ago - it took me a while to come up with the shapes as I wanted them to be, but the work is now over. Some elements and their sizes still don't really match the original vehicle, but let's call this a necessary sacrifice :D

Tempo, (also known as Vidal & Sohn Tempo-Werke GmbH), was a German automobile manufacturer based in Hamburg. The company was founded by Oscar Vidal in 1924.

The company was well known in Germany, producing well-selling vans like the Matador and the Hanseat, but Tempo also produced small military vehicles during the 1930s and 1940s.

The Emergency Medical Response Group is a volunteer-based, student organization, committed to providing excellence in 24/7 emergency medical services to members of The George Washington University community.

The George Washington University Emergency Medical Response Group (EMeRG) was founded in 1994 by Emergency Health Services students Jacob Abbott and Geoff Shapiro. EMeRG began and currently operates as a licensed BLS agency in the District of Columbia. Campus bike response began in 1996. Responders provided Basic Life Support and treatment to patients and then transferred patient care to DC Fire and EMS (DCFEMS) when transportation to the Emergency Department was needed. Patient care capabilities were expanded in 2001 when EMeRG obtained a Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) to better respond on campus. The QRV decreased response time, increased equipment providers could utilize during response and allowed the transport of non-emergent patients to The George Washington University Emergency Department. EMeRG began its first ambulance operations in the fall of 2008. The patient care abilities of the organization increased as care providers were able to not only respond and assess patients on scene, but transport them to the hospital as well. EMeRG providers are also able to work more directly with DC Fire and EMS Advanced Life Support, when necessary, to treat patients requiring more interventions outside of the Basic Life Support capabilities of EMeRG. In the spring of 2009, EMeRG obtained an additional ambulance for campus and community response. EMeRG has a close relationship with many other organizations on campus; because of this, standby support is provided for many events on campus including games hosted at the Smith Center. EMeRG also regularly provides standby medical care for training exercises for the University Police Department. EMeRG is a member of the National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation (NCEMSF).

Given how often pedestrians walk with their faces buried in their smartphones, it makes sense to have warning signs where the always-connected folks are looking. That means painting the warning right onto the pavement surface.

So how heavy is heavy?

In this case, which was a construction site in Chinatown for a new subway station, the machinery is massive - everything is bigger than normal because they're working on such a mammoth scale to dig big ass tunnels in an already dense downtown maze of skyscrapers and conserved shophouses.

In 1950, the Australian Army was the first to order Centurion tanks but it did not receive any of its Mk IIIs until 1952. This was because the British diverted the latest models to their troops in Korea.

By the time they came to serve in Vietnam, the tanks had been upgraded to Mk V/I. They were equipped with the original 20-pounder main armament but had had the two 7.92mm Besa machine-guns replaced with .30-cal Brownings on delivery and were upgraded with a .50-cal Browning ranging machine-gun, applique armour on the glacis plate, a new sight and IR night-fighting equipment before arriving in-theatre.

In February 1968, C Squadron of 1st Armoured Regiment was committed to enhance the combined-arms nature of the Australian task force, reinforced by a Special Equipment Troop of bridgelayers and tank-dozers integral to the RAEME (Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers). Despite the considerable scepticism of many observers and senior Army personnel, the 54-tonne Centurion proved particularly effective at fighting in the paddy-fields and jungle areas of Vietnam. They proved their worth on many occasions, notably in the defence of Fire Support Bases Coral and Balmoral, during the 1968 Tet Offensive, in fighting around Binh Ba and in a number of offensive operations in Phuoc Tuy Province. By 1971, when they tanks were finally withdrawn, all three Squadrons of 1st Armoured Regiment had served in South Vietnam, with C Squadron having served twice.

In all, the Australian Army purchased 131 Centurions including six ARV Mk 2s, four bridgelayers and four tank-dozers. This particular vehicle, 169056, was one of 58 Australian Centurions that served in Vietnam. In June 1971 an RPG hit the main gun barrel and shrapnel wounded the driver. The Centurion was eventually phased out of Australian military service in 1977.
