Protea is both the botanical name and the English common name of a genus of South African flowering plants, sometimes also called sugarbushes or fynbos. The family is Proteaceae. In local tradition, the protea flower represents change and hope. The extraordinary richness and diversity of species characteristic of the Cape flora are thought to be caused in part by the diverse landscape, where populations can become isolated from each other and in time develop into separate species. The main vectors responsible for the transfer of pollen in protea cultivation are birds, insects, and wind. Some Protea species exhibit both self-pollination and cross-pollination as a method of reproduction. Cross-pollination is preferred, though, as a method of reproduction because it provides genetic diversity in the population. When cultivating proteas, breeders use hand pollination as a controlled method to transfer pollen from one flower to another. Proteas usually flower during spring. The general structure of their flower heads consists of a mass of flowers on a woody receptacle. The ovary is protected by the receptacle, thus is not seen when looking at the flower, but the anthers are present at the top of the flower, which can then easily transfer the pollen to the vectors. 11113

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The project was conceived by Tim Smit and designed by architect Nicholas Grimshaw and engineering firm Anthony Hunt and Associates (now part of Sinclair Knight Merz). Davis Langdon carried out the project management, Sir Robert McAlpine and Alfred McAlpine[4] did the construction, MERO designed and built the biomes, and Arup was the services engineer, economic consultant, environmental engineer and transportation engineer. Land use consultants led the masterplan and landscape design. The project took 2½ years to construct and opened to the public on 17 March 2001.

The Tropical Biome, covers 1.56 ha (3.9 acres) and measures 55 m (180 ft) high, 100 m (328 ft) wide, and 200 m (656 ft) long. It is used for tropical plants, such as fruiting banana plants, coffee, rubber and giant bamboo, and is kept at a tropical temperature and moisture level.

The Tropical Biome

The Mediterranean Biome covers 0.654 ha (1.6 acres) and measures 35 m (115 ft) high, 65 m (213 ft) wide, and 135 m (443 ft) long. It houses familiar warm temperate and arid plants such as olives and grape vines and various sculptures.

The Outdoor Gardens represent the temperate regions of the world with plants such as tea, lavender, hops, hemp and sunflowers, as well as local plant species.

The covered biomes are constructed from a tubular steel (hex-tri-hex) with mostly hexagonal external cladding panels made from the thermoplastic ETFE. Glass was avoided due to its weight and potential dangers. The cladding panels themselves are created from several layers of thin UV-transparent ETFE film, which are sealed around their perimeter and inflated to create a large cushion. The resulting cushion acts as a thermal blanket to the structure. The ETFE material is resistant to most stains, which simply wash off in the rain. If required, cleaning can be performed by abseilers. Although the ETFE is susceptible to punctures, these can be easily fixed with ETFE tape. The structure is completely self-supporting, with no internal supports, and takes the form of a geodesic structure. The panels vary in size up to 9 m (29.5 ft) across, with the largest at the top of the structure.

The ETFE technology was supplied and installed by the firm Vector Foiltec, which is also responsible for ongoing maintenance of the cladding. The steel spaceframe and cladding package (with Vector Foiltec as ETFE subcontractor) was designed, supplied and installed by MERO (UK) PLC, who also jointly developed the overall scheme geometry with the architect, Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners.

The entire build project was managed by McAlpine Joint Venture.

Fun illustration whipped up, I think it goes good with the inside/out josh?

The destabilization of Mon Cala had spread to the edges of the sector, and had reached as far as Lothal. Trusting the adamant support of Lothal, New Republic officials and security forces had been reallocated to other Outer Rim systems deemed more in need. Lothal had taken big strides towards establishing fully independent governmental departments, true to New Republic ideals. Or so they thought.

Lothal Defense Systems was a local privately owned security force that has been struggling to establish an interstellar defense grid across the Lothal sector. With several unanswered inquiries for personnel, and technology to the New Republic, the LDS was growing weary to put it mildly.

Lothal Defense Systems Headquarters

The tension in the room was palpable. The expression on the guard's resembled surprise, or more accurately, disbelief. Only the hum of the consoles, and the careful smirk of the deputy director broke the tension. It had been a long time since Imperials had been so warmly welcomed on Lothal.

“Welcome to Lothal, Colonel” The smirk on the deputy director stayed, as if painted on. “I’ve been looking forward to our meeting.” The colonel signaled to the troopers to stay in place at the entrance, and walked up to the deputy’s desk. At his side was a nervous-looking Mon Calamari, seemingly more interested in his datapad than anything else.

“Thank you Director. I understand you’ve been briefed? That should save us some time.” The deputy director nodded, and turned to her guards. “You can leave the room now.” It took a few seconds to sink in. The guards were clearly not in agreement with the latest turn of events.

As soon as the colonel, the Mon Calamari and the director had the room to themselves, the colonel looked down and continued. “We have brought the personnel and the tech you've requested.” The director smiled, while the colonel looked directly at her. “We’ve adjusted our plans slightly. All long range communications are disabled immediately. We need all clearance codes to the defense grid, and your personal authorization to move the ships into Lothal’s orbit.” The director's smile had faded back to the initial smirk. She nodded, and turned to her console. Flicked a few buttons, and looked at the Mon Calamari. “Comms are disabled. You should have access to the grid now.” The colonel nodded to the Mon Calamari. He had what he needed, and he left the room, while adjusting approach vectors for capital ships on his datapad.

The sun had begun setting, and the colonel and the director walked to the back window of the office. The colonel seemed less tense. He turned from the window, facing the director. “Let us hope that the dawn will inspire the people to embrace the new Lothal.”

Time to enter the Novvember frenzy!

See the Vector set for more images.

After my over-ambitious failure of a SHIP last year, I’m pleased to say my entry this year has been a success – for the most part! Its interior is a little lacking and there are a few small details I’m not completely satisfied with but overall, I’m happy to call it finished.

The backstory bit:

Vector - 1 is a training craft designed to test would-be astronauts’ skill in manoeuvring large vessels in and out of atmosphere. Its modest fuel consumption and striking appearance means it also sees frequent use at air shows to promote the Star-Bound program and entice fresh recruits.

“Joys of victory? It means nothing to me.

When I had seen that Eripom had decided to make yet another absolute favorite of one of my most loved Sub-Machineguns. I was most definitely going to do something with it! But then I thought to myself, as I play a game with Dolls names after the weapons they use. Vector in that game is also known as "Vivi" and then thought to myself, why not try to remake her a good bit in this too? :D I wish I could have done more to replicate her outfit. However if there are any fellow SKK's out there. Feel free to add me! UID: 237299

Special thank you to Eripom Moonwell, and then also A & Y for the awesome heckin' clothing! I hopefully will get those fatpacks someday! Petrichor had also provided me with the wonderful means of the perfect skin-toe to match Viv's original tone!
