A pair of variable triplefins (Forsterygion varium) in breeding colours at Mathesons bay, Leigh, New Zealand. Sorry did I interupt something?
Photographed at Barnaby Slough on 21 June 2008. This species likes eating the leaves of broad leafed trees. Here, the caterpillar was on a blackberry leaf, but there were plenty of Broadleaf Maples nearby. Sightings in BugGuide range from Alabama to British Columbia, so definitely a widespread species
A first for me and only these few were in the area I saw them near Wilderswood, Horwich, Bolton. Lost my Nikon lens cap as I photographed them, but seeing them made up for that
