I'm restricted to 15 minutes at the computer, and I mught be able to do 10, so I'll make this fast. I took this photo of this aloe in July, and thought, "I've got to save this for Christmas." Well, that was two years ago. It still reminds me of a California Christmas. Of course, it also reminds me of Halloween candy corn. Whichever suits you best.

Aloe cooperi, also known as Cooper's aloe and as iPutumane in Zulu, is a succulent species that is endemic to Southern Africa. It has significant cultural and economic value to the Zulu people of South Africa.

In case you like to drink and aloe or perhaps you have ticks, this is the plants for you:

Young shoots and flowers are often cooked and eaten as vegetables by the Zulu people, they also believe that smoke from burning leaves in the cattle kraal will prevent the effects on cattle of eating improper food.

The plant's juice has been fed to horses to rid them of ticks.

The plant attracts nectar feeding birds, this made it a popular garden plant in South Africa. It IS a favorite of Anna's Hummingbirds locally and is often th center of territorial fights even though there's enough nectar to go around.

[Raining again, not that I was going anywhere. If I can, I will try to catch up with my comments. If I can't, Sharon made her honey banana nut loaves which and I might just scarf down a loaf to regain my strength. Each one pound loaf weighs four pounds.

Value the person you love now.

Tomorrow, when you send a message, she may not be online anymore and it will hurt not to see her typing ...

You will comment "nostalgia" on the old photos, and she will not be there to answer;

You're going to knock on the door and she may not be able to open it;

You will want to call again to hear that voice and she will not be able to answer ...

Life is mysterious and full of "maybe", so be sure to show your feelings tomorrow; tell the person you love how important she is, maybe she just has to listen to you tonight.

Description of Historic Place

The Charles R. Cole House is an ornate, two and one-half storey Queen Anne Revival style dwelling that typifies the fine homes being built for prominent Windsor citizens in the 1890s.

Located in central Windsor, it is recognized for its heritage value by City of Windsor Bylaw 34-2003.

Heritage Value

This building is a well-preserved example of the fine homes once built for prominent Windsor citizens in the 1890s. It is named for its association with carpenter/contractor Charles R. Cole who built the house for his family in 1891. Mr. Cole also owned a grocery store, served as an alderman and water commissioner, and was active in the Masonic Order. Tragically, he took his own life in 1903, being distraught over the death of his only daughter.

The Charles R. Cole House is an excellent example of a charming Queen Anne Revival style clapboard home. It is characterized by asymmetrical massing, a variety of roof forms, fine detailing and major decorative elements that have remained intact. The carved gingerbread on the gable ends, the ornate wrap-around porch with a crown of carved wooden spindles, and bay windows, which boast stained glass and ornately carved mullions all define the Queen Anne style and speak to the prominence of the owner at the time of building.

Character-Defining Elements

Key character defining elements that express the building's heritage value include its:

- asymmetrical massing;

- 2 ½-storey frame construction with clapboard cladding

- gingerbread mouldings on the gable ends

- bay windows with decorative carved mullions and transoms with brackets holding shallow mansard-style roofs

- stained glass windows in the front bay, entrance transom light, and porch façade

- curved wrap-around porch featuring moulded round columns and decorative wood brackets holding an open crown of carved wooden spindles

- complementary interior elements include inlayed hardwood floors, French doors and natural oak trim

Former Value Giant Drug and Discount Store located at 2558 Mission St. in San Francisco,CA. The building which is now quite neglected reused the letters to rename the store Giant Value. When I took this photo it seemed as if the store might have closed, but I cannot confirm any such closure. This store is arguably an institution on Mission Street showing up on many photos I have come across...

The 1924 Azzorre Crisis proved to Montefalco the value of a fast cruiser fleet. In that war, Montefalco relied on two heavy cruiser classes, the two Lusa-class cruisers and the upgraded Omerta-class. A decade after the war, the mass-produced Omertas were beginning to show their age, so the Principale Marina commissioned an update to remain competitive with the newest Valparaisan designs. Naval planners quickly decided to disregard the tonnage limitations of the Eiswald Naval treaty, lengthening the ship by roughly 15 meters for greater seakeeping and speed.

The designers retained the hullform and the below-decks protected torpedo launchers from the Omerta, but replaced the tripod masts with more modern superstructures. They replaced the 4x2 8" turrets with updated 3x3 8" main armament, enabling an extra gun to fire broadside. An alternate design featured a fourth turret in the rear, for a total of 12 main guns, but this caused the ship to sit too low in the water, so the fourth turret was removed and replaced with a spacious seaplane hanger. The rear turret can rotate 360 degrees in order to improve its firing arcs and traverse. Aramaic engineers who visited the shipyard during construction also noted a beneficial side effect of this design: the turret serves as a stable base to rotate the ship's crane. The crane can thus lift scout planes from the hanger to the catapult and from the water to the hanger, as well as easily handling dinghies and lifeboats. Finally, the new design has greatly increased AA armament, incorporating ten quadruple 40mm turrets and 3x2 3" heavy AA according to Oyashimese designs. The Principale Marina named the class Puglia, after a province of southern Montefalco known for its combative inhabitants. The first Puglia-class launched in 1936, to great acclaim.

S.R. Drake Memorial Church:

Description of Historic Place

The S. R. Drake Memorial Church, located at 165 Murray Street, is situated on the north side of the street between Darling and Dalhousie Streets, in the City of Brantford. This two-storey brick building was designed with elements characteristic of the Loyalist style and was constructed in 1856.

The property was designated for its historic and architectural significance by the City of Brantford under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-law 188-85).

Heritage Value

The S. R. Drake Memorial Church is associated with the Underground Railroad. Some American run-away slaves fled to Upper Canada via the Underground Railroad system and settled in groups along the Grand River. The Black Settlement of Ontario began after the American Revolution when a group of free blacks, who fought alongside the British, journeyed to Canada, with other settling Loyalists. Those who belonged to the African Methodist Episcopal Church formed the Society of Coloured Methodists, and as early as 1834, they worshipped in private homes. Later, a parcel of land was purchased and a frame church was built. In 1896, the existing brick building was constructed.

In 1856, the denomination changed their name from “African” to “British” to give their place of worship a greater Canadian identity. The new name also protected the congregation from fear of being recaptured by American slave owners or their bounty hunters. During 1956, in honour of the Centennial of the Canadian British Methodist Episcopal Church, the Brantford church was named the S.R. Drake Memorial, in honour of the Revered S.R. Drake, who was the pastor from 1902 until 1909. Rev. Drake was responsible for the incorporation of the British Methodist Episcopal Church, in 1913.

The S. R. Drake Memorial Church was built with elements characteristic of the Loyalist style. The original church, a simple frame building, was constructed for temporary use. It was replaced, in 1896, by the current yellow-brick building. The church is box-like and the gabled roof is steeply pitched. The round top windows on the upper level have rock-faced brick voussoirs, which are mirrored by a small rectangular two over two sash window, on the lower level. A date stone exists on the Murray Street facade indicating the church's founding of 1856, as well as the church's construction of 1896.

Character-Defining Elements

Character defining elements that contribute to the heritage value of the S.R. Drake Memorial Church include its:

- exterior facades

- round-top windows with rock-faced brick voussoirs

- rectangular two over two sash windows on lower level

- round-top transom over the front double doors with rock-faced brick voussoirs

- small arched window and date stone above the entrance doors

- front gabled roofline

Globalization and universality do not go together. Indeed, they might be said to be mutually exclusive. Globalization is the globalization of technologies, the market, tourism and information. Universality is the universality of values, human rights, freedoms, culture and democracy. Globalization seems irreversible; the universal might be said, by contrast, to be disappearing. At least as constituted as a system of values at the level of Western modernity, which is something that has no equivalent in any other culture.

The Florida Brewing Company building is a historic brewery building that once housed Ybor City Brewing Company, which became Florida Brewing Company. It has been restored and converted into a law office. It is the tallest building in Tampa's Ybor City Historic District.

The Florida Brewing Company Building was built to house the Florida Brewing Company, which was founded in 1896 by cigar industrialists Vicente Ybor and Edward Manrara. The brewery building is six stories tall and remains the tallest building in Ybor City.

Florida Brewing Company was the first brewery in the state of Florida. When operational in the late-19th and early-20th centuries, the building housed the leading exporter of beer to Cuba and was a leader in western Florida. After brewing operations ceased, the building was used for a variety of purposes, although it was eventually abandoned and fell into disrepair. Recently, the building was renovated and is now home to several commercial enterprises.

It was built on the Government Spring, which originally supplied water to the military men of Fort Brooke. This spring was valued by many cultures to be sacred. Florida's Paleo Indians believed the water in the spring to be of a sacred nature. They brought their sick and wounded to bathe in the water with the belief that it would cure their injuries and diseases. Nearly every Indian tribe respected the spring's holiness and thus would use the land around the spring as a peace zone, where no one would attack. Influenced by these tales and others in Europe, Spanish Conquistadors fell under the belief that there were crystalline fountains of youth hidden in the springs. Juan Ponce de León helped spread these rumors when he and a Spanish Armada set out to find a mythical fountain of youth. Many still believe the spring to have supernatural powers.

In its prime, The Florida Brewing Company produced 80,000 barrels of beer annually. It was the leading exporter of beer to Cuba in the U.S. and the premier brewery on Florida's west coast. Theodore Roosevelt and his Rough Riders visited for a beer in celebration after the Spanish–American War.

The brewery survived the adversities of the Prohibition and the Great Depression. However, the business closed in 1961 as a result of the embargo on Cuba and the opening of rival breweries by Anheuser-Busch and the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company in Tampa.

In the years following its closing, the former brewery served several purposes. It was used as a storage place for fresh tobacco in the 1960s and later became a bomb shelter throughout the Cold War. However, it was abandoned for the latter 25 years of the 20th century, and its condition declined. The former brewery became generally considered a detriment to the redevelopment of Ybor City

In 1999, attorney Dale Swope and contractor Joseph Kokolakis purchased the building to restore and convert it into a law firm and office space. The restoration project received a Builders' Choice grand award in adaptive re-use.

"The home's original owner was Israel Beetison, an Englishman who moved to Massachusetts in 1845 and later moved to a homestead in Nebraska in the 1860s. He commissioned local masons to carve 18-inch-thick limestone blocks out of a South Bend and Louisville quarry. A team of horses and wagons dragged the blocks nearly 10 miles across what is now I-80 to the homestead. They built a 1,800 square-foot house -- four bedrooms, living room, a kitchen and dirt floor cellar.

A hand-written document from 1977 found in the State Historical Society said the home was built so solidly it could last "for centuries."

That document was part of the application and review of the home for the National Register of Historic Places. "The house stands as one of the finest examples of Italianate architecture style in Nebraska," the document states.

Along with the historical value of the home, the area also is rich with history -- Ox-Bow Trail ruts run through the land, and 900-year-old Native American burial grounds were discovered there in 1937, according to state preservation documents.

According to family lore, Pawnee Indians used to come to the house in the early days to trade blankets for eggs, chickens and other goods." (Lincoln, Journal-Star)

aka: " FLASH JORDAN "

Free people of the free world!

Ukrainians and citizens of all countries who value freedom!

Friends!

On March 24 it will be the month of our resistance. Heroic resistance of the Ukrainian state, the Ukrainian people to the ruthless invasion of Russia. It's already a month of our defense against the attempt to destroy us. Wipe off the face of the earth.

The original plan of the Russian troops failed already in the first days of the invasion. They thought Ukrainians would be frightened. They thought Ukrainians would not fight. They were wrong.

They know nothing about us, about Ukrainians. They know nothing at all about freedom. About how valuable it is. They do not know how freedom enriches life. Gives meaning to life.

But there are many of them! There are still many invaders. Russia is getting manpower from everywhere. Equipment. Air bombs, missiles. Looking for mercenaries around the world. Any scum capable of shooting at civilians.

Russian troops destroy our cities. Kill civilians indiscriminately. Rape women. Abduct children. Shoot at refugees. Capture humanitarian convoys. They are engaged in looting.

They burn museums, blow up schools and hospitals. The target for them is universities, residential neighborhoods... Anything! Russian troops do not know the limits of evil.

But...

The war of Russia is not only the war against Ukraine. Its meaning is much wider.

Russia started the war against freedom as it is.

This is only the beginning for Russia on the Ukrainian land. Russia is trying to defeat the freedom of all people in Europe. Of all the people in the world. It tries to show that only crude and cruel force matters.

It tries to show that people do not matter, as well as everything else that makes us people.

That’s the reason we all must stop Russia. The world must stop the war.

I thank everyone who acts in support of Ukraine. In support of freedom. But the war continues. The acts of terror against peaceful people go on. One month already! That long! It breaks my heart, hearts of all Ukrainians and every free person on the planet.

That’s why I ask you to stand against the war! Starting from March 24 – exactly one month after the Russian invasion… From this day and after then.

Show your standing! Come from your offices, your homes, your schools and universities. Come in the name of peace. Come with Ukrainian symbols to support Ukraine, to support freedom, to support life.

Come to your squares, your streets. Make yourselves visible and heard. Say that people matter. Freedom matters. Peace matters. Ukraine matters.

From March 24.

In downtowns of your cities.

All as one together who want to stop the war.

I want to address the citizens of Russia separately.

I am sure that there are many of you who are disgusted by the policy of your state. Who are already just sick of what you see on TV. Of the lies of your propagandists on the Internet. Propagandists who are paid by your taxes. And they lie about the war, which is paid for by your taxes. And which makes all the citizens of Russia poorer. Poorer every day.

Isn't that stupid? Your state collects taxes from you to make you poorer. To isolate you from the world. To make it easier for them to control you. And easier to send you to the war to die.

Ukraine has never threatened the security of Russia.

Even now, we are doing everything just to bring peace back to our land. Not to yours - to our land. To our people.

We are doing everything to end this war. And when we succeed - it will certainly happen - you will be sure of at least one thing: your children will no longer be sent to die on our land, on our territory.

Therefore, you, the citizens of Russia, are also interested in peace. Save your sons from the war. Tell the truth about the war. And if you can leave Russia so as not to give your taxes to the war, do it.

All polls show that the people of Europe and America support us.

I am grateful to all of you for that. Grateful on behalf of Ukraine. To everyone in the European Union, the United States, Canada, Britain and other countries for supporting us. For supporting freedom. For supporting Ukraine.

On March 24, three important summits will take place in Brussels, Europe. Important for the security of each of us. NATO Summit. EU Summit. G7 Summit.

I'm sure people will show how they support us. But politicians must also support freedom. All of them. They must support the struggle for life.

We are waiting for meaningful steps. From NATO, the EU and the G7.

We know that the Russians have already begun to lobby their interests. These are the interests of war. We know that they are working with some partners. We know that they want to put this issue out. The struggle against war. But this is the war that needs to be put out.

Our firm position will be represented at these three summits. At these three summits we will see: Who is a friend, who is a partner, and who betrayed us for money.

Life can be defended only when united. Freedom must be armed.

Ukrainian sky has not been made safe from Russian missiles and bombs. We have not received aircraft and modern anti-missile weapons. We have not received tanks, anti-ship equipment. Russian forces can keep killing thousands of our citizens, destroying our cities. Just because there are too many invaders. Just because Russia has been preparing for such a war for decades.

We asked to close our sky. And we asked for assistance from NATO to be effective and without limits. Any support in weapons that we need. We asked the Alliance to say it will fully help Ukraine win this war, clear our territories of the invaders and restore peace in Ukraine.

Free people of the free world!

Together we must prevent Russia from breaking someone in NATO, EU or G7. From breaking and taking it to the war side. We will see on March 24.

Ukrainians! All our heroes!

A month has passed. We withstood six times longer than the enemy had planned, than the Russian command had reported to the Russian president.

They were convinced that Ukraine is not a state. They were convinced that Ukrainians are not a nation. They deceived themselves. But we don't care about them. This is their state suicide. And we are just protecting our lives. Our freedom. Our own state. Our children. Hence, our future.

This is a war for independence. And we must win.

We will rebuild every city that heroically resists. We will bring the invaders to justice for every crime. Zhytomyr and Sumy, Kyiv and Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Mariupol, Volnovakha and Mykolaiv, Okhtyrka and Hostomel, Kherson and Odesa, Izyum and Donetsk, Luhansk and Chornobaivka... All our people will live! In a free Ukraine. After our victory. Which will come sooner, the more we will all be united.

We are all Ukrainians. We are all Europeans. We are all free people of the free world.

In unity! On the battlefield and in political positions, at rallies and summits, at work and in communication with people. By all our actions, we must force Russia to seek peace. By all our actions, we must bring the victory of freedom closer.

May the memory of all who died for Ukraine live forever!

Eternal glory to all our heroes!

Glory to Ukraine!
