The gargantuan lenticular cloud had hanged over volcano Kamen. Kamen is a part of a group of innate volcanoes located in Klyuchevskoy park, Kamchatka.
Another from my recent trip to Crater Lake, Oregon. This one is a six-shot panorama. Had a lot of trouble getting the usual software packages to stitch this one together, but was finally able to do it with some manually entered control points in the PTGui software.
I've wanted this shot for some time, and am really happy with how it turned out! Now I just need to return there someday when there's more & cleaner snow... and maybe with a D800E instead of my D700! :-)
Oh, and this shot is today's (June 19, 2013) NASA Astronomy Photo of the Day (APOD):
«Io» disse ancora «possiedo una rosa che innaffio tutti i giorni. Possiedo tre vulcani che pulisco tutte le settimane. Perché pulisco anche quello quello spento. Non si sa mai. Il fatto che io li possieda è utile ai miei vulcani ed è utile alla mia rosa. Invece tu non sei utile alle stelle…»

On top of the Etna volcano, everything was covered with clouds and fog. Suddenly wind comes and a wonderful view opens up.
For only few minutes we could enjoy the landscape surrounding the volcano, after that clouds came back and everything was foggy and grey again.
The Mombacho Volcano is one of the most famous volcanoes in Nicaragua. It has four craters. All of the craters are covered with cloud forest. This type of forest is only found on one other spot in the Pacific, and that is on the Maderas Volcano in Ometepe.
On the Mombacho volcano, you can walk around one of the craters, or hike around several craters. Besides lots of different trees and plants that thrive because of the cloud forests humidity you can also observe howler and white face monkeys, as well as snakes, deer, reptiles, birds, and insects. There are several endemic species living on the Mombacho.

The behemoth Volcán Coropuna, at close to 6400m elevation, is Peru's third highest peak. A herd of startled vicuñas runs across the plains below.
A lone tree in the vineyard under the shadow of the volcano. As rainfall is scant here vines are placed in a depression surrounded by a small wall to trap moisture and protect them from the wind.
Sundhnúkur eruptions 2023–2024) are an ongoing series of volcanic eruptions in the Reykjanes Peninsula, near the town of Grindavík, Iceland.
Volcanos are often classified by plotting their degree of "explosiveness" (y axis) and height of the erpution column (x axis).... the largest and most dangerous eruptions have high values of both. Check over each type for examples.
Note- this example is here is purely for showing how flickr can be used to create "hotspot" learning objects.... my geology knowledge is extremely rusty!
Flickr has neutered the notes capability, but you can see the notes they refuse to show via

Note: Eventually flickr restored the notes, and it still works. I love you, flickr.

While photographing the milky way over Mount Shasta in California, we had to wait for the sun to rise to get some foreground light. It was about 4:00am when the moon began rising directly behind and over the mountain. We knew this was going to happen and luckily the milky way was in a great position over the mountain 2 hours earlier. However, I really wasn't prepared for this particular scene. The moon looked like it was blasting straight out of the dormant volcano and with the reflection in the relatively calm water, was an incredible sight to see. I quickly changes some camera settings and captured this image.
Nikon D850 with Nikkor 24-70mm F2.8 lens at 24mm, ISO 2000, F5.6, 20 seconds. (April 2023)
I wish I did own a DSLR at the time for this trip. Lowered 700 feet into the collapsed magma chamber of a dormant volcano via a window cleaners cradle set up. Rather than walk for hours we chose the helicopter trip to the top. Be prepared to max your credit card but it was worth it. Check out the website.
This string of volcanoes are seen near San Pedro de Atacama. Several are active and occasionally give off smoke and ash. The conical mountain on the right is Licancabur on the Bolivian border.

Fuego Volcano is to 18.4 kilometers from Tanque la Union in Antigua Guatemala. (i consult photopills app) most of the pictures was taken to 50mm.
The workflow was Lightroom for lens corrections and noise reduction with a plugin from Franzis software.
After i increase a little the high lights and down the blacks.
At the end increase the reds and yellow using Tonny Kuypper panel.

No marshmallows were harmed in the making of this shot.
