Last week we had a day with spectacular Cumulus Clouds Drifting on a Westerly Breeze. I decided that it was time to revisit the “Country Road” The Country Road is a tourist/bike touring route which begins in Mangaweka, travels to Rangiwahia, then Apiti, then down the Pohangina Valley to Ashhurst all via backroads. My route will start in Ashhurst and travel in the reverse direction. All the images are included in my Vlog which Premieres on Youtube at 7 pm (NZT) tonight 21/06/21. This weeks Vlog was driven by Lockdown here in New Zealand. The rules restrict car use to Food & exercise. So the Video needed to created from Locations within walking distance of my house. This Image is the Old Post Office and more Lately the High Flyers Bar & Nightclub. The Building has been empty since the club went out of business. The Image is a 7 image

I made my way from Steelhead Falls to Cliff Falls and I wanted to get a head on shot of the river with the potholes that I had seen. To my dismay I found the shot I saw was obviously taken by drone. I have a drone but this is a Provincial Park and drones are prohibited. Not sure how that works. Anyway DJI get in touch :)

Vlog of this one here...
Sunday at Portknockie, on Scotland's Moray Firth, was a slightly more flat day. There wasn't much wind and the sky was largely uninteresting. This made finding a good shot tricky. Fortunately as the tide reached its highest point, some good waves kicked up and gave me an opportunity to revisit a composition from a while ago and see if I could put a different spin on it.

I wouldn't normally take seascape images when the sun is high in the sky and there is mostly blue sky, but I felt I should yesterday as this weather has been a long time in coming. Back to grey today though but it does feel like we have finally turned a corner and that Spring has finally begun. It has been a long and challenging Winter but it certainly made things interesting. I do love when Scotland is like this though. It reminds me of why I choose to live in this stunning little part of the world. Cullen Bay in Morayshire, Scotland.
Not the easiest of compositions as the mist kept building up on the lens, but I managed to get one shot I liked of Magnesia Falls. I found out it was a massive slide that caused them to build the containment area around the falls. VLOG below

Yesterday was a really productive day. After a 30 minute jog first thing, I decided to drive to Spey Bay, in Morayshire, Scotland, to do a vlog and get a couple of images. When I set out, there was a thick sea fog over the entire area but by the time I made it to this location, it had more or less completely burned off. This put somewhat of a damper on my thoughts of a moody, very long exposure so I had to work with what I had. Which, to be fair, wasn't a bad thing as the light shining off the pebbles on the beach made for a stunning scene.

Just as I was about to pack up and leave this location yesterday, I turned around and saw that the waves were rushing around and spilling over these rocks, creating a really interesting composition that I had disregarded earlier. Sometimes a great shot can present itself to you when you aren't looking for one. I love moments like these and it tends to sum up landscape and seascape photography for me. Things are always changing and you just need to be ready. Taken at Tronach Head near Portknockie in Morayshire, Scotland.

A photographer friend of mine recently recommended that I take a trip to Linn Falls near Aberlour in Speyside, Scotland. This was a fantastic suggestion as this location did not disappoint. The waterfall is straight forward to get to and there some perfect points in the area to photograph it from that present many great compositions. This was the most obvious one, made even better by the old, stuck branch. I highly recommend this as a place to visit and whilst you are there, you can visit the Aberlour Distillery and pick up a bottle of what I consider the best value for money whisky, the 12 year old!
