Pattern by Patricia Kristoffersen, from Leisure Arts booklet "Ultimate Doilies". I used antique size 10 crochet thread, and a Susan Bates size 3 hook to achieve the correct width of the doily, which is 14.5 inches. Next time I'll use a smaller hook and let it be a smaller doily.

The Ganden Sumtsenling Monastery, also known as Sungtseling and Guihuasi, is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery situated 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from the city of Zhongdian at elevation 3,380 metres (11,090 ft) in Yunnan province, China. Built in 1679, the monastery is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan province and is sometimes referred to as the Little Potala Palace. Located in the capital of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, it is also the most important monastery in southwest China.
It belongs to the Yellow Hat sect of Tibetan Buddhism of the Gelukpa order of the Dalai Lama. The Fifth Dalai Lama's Buddhist visionary zeal established the monastery in Zhongdian, in 1679. Its architecture is a fusion of the Tibetan and Han Chinese. It was extensively damaged in the Cultural Revolution and subsequently rebuilt in 1983; at its peak, the monastery contained accommodation for 2,000 monks; it currently accommodates in its rebuilt structures 700 monks in 200 associated houses.

He will be missed. Meeting Kristine here is a moment I'm fairly certain will be one of those moments I look back on as a defining one.
She sought me out after seeing my SPs in abandoned buildings and wrote me a long coffee-fueled email. Turns out she does the same thing. Me, I'm the kind of person who'd rather pretend I'm original. Kristine is the kind of person who sees possibilities (lucky for me) (and maybe for you, too).
I wasn't sure if she was the "real deal" and very much wanted to meet her so I could properly define what my relationship with her would be. I found a sincere, earnest woman who fit in step with me easily. She pushes herself every moment, determined to live life to the fullest. She strives to overcome her fears, to find where her line is and step over it. She's a bit overwhelming at times, in fact, but so excited about stuff that you just don't care. :-)
She's got big plans. Keep your eye on her because she's kind of a marvel and if you blink, you might miss something. There's more to come of her later as she was gracious enough to agree to pose with me on my last day in Detroit.
