Vishnu Springs (vishnusprings.org) opened to the public for one day. After parking, it was about a half mile walk to the area of the 1890's resort town. The pathway went through a beautiful wooded forest.

This is located inside the Vittala Temple campus. You would be visiting the Stone Chariot as part of your Vittala Temple tour.

In mythology Lord Vittala is an aspect of Lord Vishnu (See Gods of Hampi and Mythology of Hampi). Garuda (lord of eagles) is the vehicle (mount) of Lord Vishnu. The Stone Chariot once contained the icon on Garuda, though the shrine is empty now. This shrine is in the axis of the massive Vittala Temple and faces the sanctum of Vittala Temple.

Essence of Dance, Dress Rehearsal, Jan, 21, 2017

My mind has been all over the place with images which have appeared to me in this very old tree trunk which I photographed in a nearby park. From torah finials to Vishnu avatars . . . the symbolism and metaphors have grabbed me deeply, especially during this horrendous, unsettling political time . . .

From LOTUS SCULPTURE I quote:

"Vishnu is one of the principal Hindu deities, worshiped as the protector and preserver of the world and restorer of dharma (moral order). He is known chiefly through his avatars (incarnations), particularly Rama, Krishna and Buddha.

In theory, Vishnu manifests a portion of himself anytime he is needed to fight evil, and his appearances are innumerable;

but in practice, ten incarnations are most commonly recognized."

Have a blessed week ahead dear friends :-)

This event for God Vishnu and age limit is under 15.

From the Wiki Page: "Vishnu Temple is named for Vishnu, the Hindu deity, redeemer of the universe. This toponym was applied in 1880 by Clarence Dutton who thought this mountain resembled an oriental pagoda, when he began the tradition of naming geographical features in the Grand Canyon after mythological deities."

I believe that is Humphreys Peak, a dormant volcano, way off in the distance, which is just north of Flagstaff, Arizona.

Grand Canyon National Park

It is an overwhelming adventure, a time of wonder with light and thunder, to experience a monsoon thunderstorm wave rolling across the Grand Canyon at sunset. Surrounded by storm cells with heavy rain and far too close lightning strikes of a highly active thunderstorm behind, the multiple echoes of the rolling thunders were deeply impressive. The panoramic view at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon near Cape Royal extends from Vishnu Canyon past Wotan's thrones into the sunset in Clear Canyon. The eponymous streams of these canyons cascade their muddy-brown rainfall torrents towards the Colorado River.

Such moments of great sublimity revive deeply rooted connections to our home planet. These impressions awaken our instincts and with them the irreversible realization how unique our planet is and how closely we are connected to it.

Mortality and divinity are joined in this figure of a yoga master attaining an equivalence with the cosmos.

With its origins in India about 2,500 years ago, yoga developed philosophical elements both spiritual and secular, with ties to Hindu, Jain, Sufi and Buddhist traditions, in its goal of leading to spiritual transformation.

Beautiful sculpture of Varaha Avatar of Lord Vishnu-

Varaha is the third avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu in the form of a boar. When the demon Hiranyaksha stole the earth (personified as the goddess Bhudevi) and hid her in the primordial waters, Vishnu appeared as Varaha to rescue her. Varaha slew the demon and retrieved the Earth from the ocean, lifting it on his tusks, and restored Bhudevi to her place in the universe.

Varaha may be depicted completely as a boar or in an anthropomorphic form, with a boar's head and human body.

And the festival of colours.

at Airavateswara temple, Darasuram,

This temple was constructed by the Rajaraja Chola II in the 12th century AD.

This temple is a storehouse of art and architecture. The vimana is 85 feet high. The front mandapam itself is in the form of a huge chariot drawn by horses. The temple has some exquisite stone carvings.

The main deity's consort Periya Nayaki Amman temple is situated adjacent to Airavateshwarar temple.

The Great Living Chola Temples. (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) at Thanjavur, Gangaikonda Cholapuram and Darasuram were built by the Cholas between the 10th and 12th centuries CE and have a lot of similarities.
