Cute but strange vampire keyring. Brought back as a prezzie for me by friends from their holidays to Devon and Cornwall. He came from Wooky Hole or the Witchcraft Museum, one of the two!

HMAS Vampire, 'Daring' Class Destroyer, 2,830 tons, built Cockatoo Island Naval Dockyard, completed 1959, at the Australian National Maritime Museum, Sydney, 13 April 2016. Originally identical to the RN's 'Daring' Class, 3 were built at the RAN Naval Dockyard, Cockatoo Island 1957-59 and a 4th cancelled whilst under construction. Later, a RN 'Daring' was leased, then purchased, by the RN to replace one sunk. The two remaining RAN-built vessels were extensively rebuilt by the Williamstown Naval Dockyard in 1970-73 with new fore and aft superstructures incorporating funnels and a reconditioned armament. The result was a destroyer that was far better looking than the original RN-version whose stick-like funnels in my opinion ruined what would otherwise have been a fine looking design. What a shame the RN vessels weren't rebuilt likewise! HMS Vampire was not decommissioned until 1986, although in her final years she had been relegated to a training ship..
