Little Max wants to fly across the menacing skies when he grows up. He was sitting on his dad's shoulder, staring at the UH-60 Blackhawk, US Army’s utility tactical transport helicopter that took off from MIT's Briggs field during the 150th celebration. Although I could not look int Max's eyes, I knew exactly what he was thinking!

On April 30, 2011 MIT celebrated her 150th birthday through an institute wide open house. This was the first campus wide open house in over thirty years, and we estimated an attendance around thirty thousands. Through hundreds of fun and fascinating activities, the day showcased exciting new developments in robotics, energy, sustainability, entrepreneurship, arts and music, campus life and beyond. As a class of 2011 (150th class), I fell extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to experience these remarkable celebrations; celebration of innovation and human curiosity.
I would not exaggerate when I say in my fours years of college life I have never seen so much life and vibrance in campus. In the spirit of the celebrations, I took the day off, kissed goodbye to my already delayed problem sets and went out to capture some glimpses of this remarkable day. Not sure how successful I've been at capturing the essence of the day, but I am making a series from whatever I could shoot. I hope you'll enjoy it!

traffic congestion is fun when you are not in it. it is common in the philippines for passengers to sit or stand on the entrance steps during peak hour traffic. they still pay the normal fare which is about 20 US cents for 5kms
Back in the late 70's not even 20 years old, I started working for this company. It was known as "American Telephone & Telegraph" back then. Unbelievable how this company re-emerged as a leader in the telecommunications industry after the government forced it breakup their monopoly. {Random Thought 10.30.24}

The Land Rover was conceived by the Rover Company in 1947 during the aftermath of World War II. Maurice Wilks, Rover's chief designer came up with a plan to produce a light agricultural and utility vehicle, of a similar concept to the Willys Jeep used in the war, but with an emphasis on agricultural use. The first prototype was built on a Willys Jeep chassis and used the engine and gearbox out of a Rover P3 saloon car. The bodywork was handmade out of an aluminium/magnesium alloy called Birmabright, to save on steel, which was closely rationed.
Land Rover entered production in 1948, later to be known as the Series 1, and was launched at the 1948 Amsterdam Motor Show. It was designed for farm and light industrial use, with a steel box-section chassis and an aluminium body. Originally the Land Rover was a single model offering, which from 1948 until 1951 used an 80-inch wheel base and a 1.6-litre petrol engine producing around 50 bhp. The four-speed gearbox from the Rover P3 was used, with a new two-speed transfer box. This incorporated an unusual four-wheel-drive system, with a freewheel unit (as used on several Rover cars of the time). This disengaged the front axle from the manual transmission on the overrun, allowing a form of non- permanent 4WD. A ring-pull mechanism in the driver's footwell allowed the freewheel to be locked to provide more traditional 4WD. This was a basic vehicle: tops for the doors and a roof (canvas or metal) were optional extras. In 1950, the lights moved from a position behind the grille to protruding through the grille.
During 1950, the unusual semi-permanent 4WD system was replaced with a more conventional setup, with drive to the front axle being taken through a simple dog clutch. In 1952 and 1953, a larger 2.0-litre petrol engine was fitted. he 1954 model year brought major changes with the original 80 inch wheel base replaced with an 86 inch wheel base and a 107 inch wheelbase, pick up version introduced. September 1955 saw the introduction of a four door station wagon on the 107 wheel base chassis, with seating for up to ten people. The 86-inch station wagon was a three-door, seven-seater.

For all friends and visitors regularly looking at my site, a new load old slides arrived from Europe were they are waiting for the day something to be done with others than a certain decay. This is Antwerp in the sixties with an extra ordinary tram transport clearly taken in overexposure and should have been removed while looking at the harvest after the slide film came back from the lab but I didn't. And now with the joy and toys of the digital ages it can be turned into art. Like it or not, a yesteryear scene and unrepeatable.
