Production of the ZiL-131 commenced in 1966, it replaced the previous ZiL-157. Production ceased in 1994 with nearly 1,000,000 of these Trucks produced. It was widely used by the Soviet Military. Despite its age the ZiL-131 is still used by the Russian Military, as well as a number of other Military Forces.

The ZIL-131 was introduced in 1966, it is a Military version of the ZIL-130, and the two trucks share many components, the ZIL-131 6x6 has the same equipment as the GAZ-66 and Ural-375D. The ZIL-130 / 131 was in production at the ''AMUR'' truck plant (as the AMUR 531340) with both gasoline and diesel engines, until 2012 when AMUR shut down and filed for bankruptcy.

The ZiL-131 has a conventional layout, the baseline model is a Cargo Truck, which has a payload capacity of 7,716lb off-road and 11,023lb on hard surface roads. It is used to carry Troops, Cargo and other Military Equipment. The all-metal cab of this truck provides seating for the driver and two passengers. The ZiL-131 is powered by a V8 petrol Engine, developing 150hp, the engine is coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox, driving a permanent All-Wheel Drive, however the front axle can be disconnected on hard surface roads. It is fitted with a Central Tyre Inflation Systems, and a Self-Recovery Winch was fitted to the front of some models.

Variants of the ZiL-131 include a ZiL-131V Tractor Unit for towing Semi-Trailers, ZiL-131D Dump Truck and Fuel and Water Bowsers / Tankers. It is also used as a chassis for the ''Grad-1 Artillery Rocket System'' later replaced by an improved variant, the ZiL-131N, introduced in 1986. In 1995 a new ZiL-4334 was proposed as a replacement of the ZiL-131N. A small number of these Trucks are in service with the Russian Army. Though it was generally replaced in service by Ural-4320 and KamAZ Mustang Series Military Trucks.

These vehicles have been in production with small variations since 1948, I belive that this one is not that old :-)

I really like these cars, I remeber as a kid back in Colombia and Argentina that most of the Land Rover there were made in Spain by Santana.

They might not be the pretiest but are some of the best all terrain vehicles ever made.

After the war the U.S government sold or distributed the majority of their Model B's to local governments and municipalities. Three were included in the 1919 Motor Transport Corps convoy. According to 1st Lt. E. R. Jackson, the official Ordnance Department Observer ''The three Four Wheel Drive Trucks were, in general, the most satisfactory in the Convoy and of all of the various makes represented, the F.W.D.'s alone were able to pull through all of the bad, muddy, and sandy stretches of road in Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah and Nevada absolutely unaided (emphasis in the original.) He also noted that the Model B's were more reliable than the other vehicles and completed the entire trip on their original tyres but they showed '' a decided tendency to run into the bad spots'' of uneven roads. British machines were returned to the UK from where some were shipped throughout British Empire.

Surplus Model B's proved popular in the postwar Good Roads Movement as their all wheel drive made them ideal municipal and civilian construction vehicles, and FWD survived the postwar recession on the strength of Model B sales and parts. Popular sales tactics included demonstrating the benefits of all wheel drive by driving them up stairs FWD also selected six woman demonstration drivers from their plant workforce to demonstrate the Model B's easy steering, the first of whom, Luella Bates, delivered a Model B from Clintonville to the 1919 New York Auto Show before barnstorming all around the U.S on three transcontinental trips. Some Model B trucks were still being used as construction vehicles and snow ploughs as late as the 1940's.

AKTIV SNOW TRAC ST4 TRACKED CARGO VEHICLE -

A light heli-portable over-snow vehicle for use in NATO's northern flank of Norway. It proved ideal for use under the Wessex Mk.V and early Sea King helicopters.

This example (which was last seen at the Norfolk Tank Museum flic.kr/p/2mx5SfL ) has chassis No. 1905 and was built in 1975 in Sweden, it weighs half a ton, has a maximum speed of 21mph, and an endurance of eight hours on a full tank of fuel. The Volkswagon 1600cc engine is mated to a modified gearbox, incorporating variable-radius pulley (variator) connected by a rubber belt on the drive shafts for steering. As the steering wheel is turned, one pulley opens and the other one closes, causing one drive shafts to speed up and the other to slow down, thus making the vehicle turn. It is painted in its original ''Artic Livery'' for operations with 45 Commando, Royal Marines.

This vehicle was donated to the Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum by the Royal Marines Museum, Southsea, in April 2003, and then restored to full working order by Phillip Chatfield, son of Major John Chatfield R.M, as inspector of motor transport, he was responsible for the selection, trials and introduction of the type to the Royal Marines in late 1969.
