Just renewed my annual national park pass. Heading out to southern Utah in a couple weeks, hoping for a combined photography / mountain biking loop around the state.

Pic is from Zion about this time last year

Cheers,

Canyonlands National Park, Utah. It's impossible to capture the essence of any landscape in a single photograph, but I think this panorama comes pretty close. This is one spectacular place among endless amazing scenery in Utah, and I've visited only a small part of it.

The western portion of Utah is a unique area very different from other parts of the state. It is mostly arid desert accented by low mountain ranges. Water is scarce. The Bonneville Salt Flats are included in the west desert area.

A view from the side of the road, near Alta, Utah.

Filled channel within the cretaceous Iron Springs (kis) formation (ca 80-100 Ma) on the steep incline between Gunlock and Veyo. The channel bottom presumably represents an old erisonal surface, with the sandstone an mudstone bands above (assumed also to be part of of the kis formation) being disconformally overlayn.

This shot was taken not far from Moab and near the base of the La Sal Mountains, showing autumn colors.

'Dirty Devil Wilderness Study Area'. Kinda 'Fractal Wilderness', from this POV...

We are visiting Linda's sister in Vernal, Utah for a week, and stopped to admire the scenery in Manila, Utah

I don't know the name of this small community but there weren't too many of them. More often we saw the occasional home or 2 or 3 homes together in this vast expanse.

View from the Mansard Cave | In Kanab, Utah.

An afternoon hike led us to the the heart of Mansard Cave, where we settled for supper. Our desire to enjoy the intimacy of the Grand Staircase at last light, as well as our lack of overnight supplies, made it a pitch- black descent of the trail. Props to iPhone flashlights.

Hovenweep Castle was the home of Anasazi or Ancestral Puebloan peoples of the Four Corners area of the USA. It consists of two D-shaped towers perched on the rim of Little Ruin Canyon. It is located in the Hovenweep National Monument of Utah/Colorado and is associated with the much larger "Canyons Of The Ancients National Monument. "

Hovenweep National Monument is in southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah, between Cortez, Colorado and Blanding, Utah on the Cajon Mesa of the Great Sage Plain. Shallow tributaries run through the wide and deep canyons into the San Juan River. Although Hovenweep National Monument is largely known for the six groups of Ancestral Puebloan villages, there is evidence of occupation by hunter-gatherers from 8,000 to 6,000 B.C. until about AD 200. Later, a succession of early puebloan cultures settled in the area and remained until the 14th century.

Island in the Sky, Canyonlands National Park, Utah. 22-3-2018.

After an overcast evening overlooking the Green River, I was driving back to Moab in near darkness. Suddenly, I noticed the sky burst into shades of red. So it was another "pull over, jump out, get the tripod, desperately look for a foreground" routine...

Working my up Hwy 24 to the interstate on my way to Moab and pulled off to catch the last bit of sun. I belive I might be shooting towards Goblin Valley state park

Green River from one of the famous overlooks in Island in the Sky... I waited hopelessly for a colorful sunset but no dice. Still, this photo is not completely worthless thanks to the ominous sky. Things did get very interesting after I packed up and left (as usual), but that will be another upload.

I love Utah. I am always coming back. This was my 5th time here since last year and I am already missing Utah's magic. I feel like I will be back soon

Taken in 2010. This is the first time I've actually sat down and gone through my shots from that trip. I'm pleased with this one.

The high Unita mountains of Utah is a wonderful place to be. If you are a landscape photographer like I am, it is a perfect place to be! :-)
