I (re)made this crystal bead necklace just the other day, and stupidly broke one of the beads while doing so (I used the wrong pliers, and instead of the wire, the first bead next to the clasp broke). You've seen a small part of this necklace before, for our first theme of 2024, "New" (please see the first comment).
Back in January, I had just newly stringed this lovely necklace, but with a pre-fab jewellery wire that had half of the clasp already mounted so it would be easier to do. It was, but other than I'd thought, the clasp's materials were neither stainless steel nor sterling silver, so the atomically thin silver layer came off quickly. Annoying. But, on the other hand, it allowed me to try again and get the mounting of the clasp properly done with crimp beads (and a proper silver clasp), something I've always struggled with (regarding the finishing part when it comes to mounting the connection ring and Cartier carabiner to the already beaded necklace). And I finally, finally got the knack of doing it the right way. I will remake this necklace again once I've found a bead to replace the broken one. I want to do it in Wabi-sabi style so I hope to find a bead of the correct shape and size but with a different colour. But for now, I'm wearing it as is, one bead shorter, because at the moment, it's my favourite necklace.
For this image, I put the smaller part of the broken bead (I've kept the pieces) on the connection ring of the clasp so the ring and the crimp beads are visible. This time, I thought a black backdrop looked nicer than the apricot-orange background I'd used for my previous photo of this necklace because it added more depth to this quite different presentation. The image is an in-camera focus stacking, and combining the 15 single RAW files in Helicon Focus provided a slightly better result than the automatically in-camera processed Jpg. I removed the inevitable dust but not the signs of usage on the crystal beads.
HMM, Everyone!

This photo is dedicated to Rod who passed away sadly yesterday 9-12-08. He is the brother of my dear friends Mike - Roofer1 www.flickr.com/photos/13766521@N05/ and Suzy - bulldog1 www.flickr.com/photos/bulldogsrule/
I thought this photo of this gorgeous white tiger was something Rod would haved loved since he so loved his own cats who stayed by his side to the end.
Please add them to your prayers today!

This bird breeds in eastern Greenland, Iceland and Svalbard. It is migratory, wintering in northwest Europe, especially Ireland, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and western Denmark. The name is often abbreviated in colloquial usage to "pinkfoot". Wikipedia

I want to wish everyone a wonderful Friday and weekend! I'll do my best to view all your beautiful photos. Everything depends on how much pain I'm dealing with each day. Thanks so much for all your prayers and well wishes. I appreciate them so much. Lots of hugs!
P.S. I probably won't stay on Flickr tonight because I'm having a lot of discomfort. I'll try to catch up tomorrow. Have a nice friday evening everyone.

I'm sorry to say that I'll be posting more photos than usual right now because I need to get more posted for the Cincinnati Zoo. I don't want you all to feel that you need to comment on them because of that. I hope everyone has a great weekend! Hugs! I'll do my best to try to see your photos though. It's a very busy time for me because of my upcoming surgery so if I miss some I hope you all understand. Big hugs again!

This series of images was taken with my new toy the Canon EOS R5. After a couple of hours playing with the camera, watching some great videos about the best camera settings for bird photography and watching local shorebirds and families of barn swallows with fledglings... I can certify that addiction grows with usage.. this is an awesome camera offering image possibilities never anticipated... it makes some things a lot easier to achieve and at a quality which is in my experience much more consistent than before! View large for details... I will be taking a short break from posting but it is not because I am not having fun :)

Right now its hard to spend time on Flickr because my daughter is here visiting from Colorado. I will be busy right through the weekend because I want to spend as much time with her as possible. Catch up with you all by Monday. Thanks again for always being there for me. Have a nice Sunday!
P.S.
Sure was a long and busy day for me so I've had no chance to even try to be on Flickr until now. Saturday Night Live is on now and I finally can sit down for a couple of minutes so I thought I'd post a picture before I call it a night. Good night my friends and sweet dreams. Good morning to others who are just starting their day! My best wishes to you all!

A swticher pair on the PISB is a rare treat for us in the Wyoming Valley, yesterday the crew took the 1548 and 800 up the Scranton branch to the Keyser Valley to switch Azek and Kane. Here the 800 is leading the SBPI back into Pittston under the former LV cutoff.

The Clywedog reservoir (Welsh: Llyn Clywedog) is a reservoir near Llanidloes, Wales on the head-waters of the River Severn. The construction of the reservoir was enabled by an Act of parliament which asserted that "The chief function of the reservoir is river regulation. It was completed in 1967 and is situated near the B4518 road north of Llanidloes, Powys Its function is to regulate the flow in the River Severn by releasing water into the river channel during low flow periods and re-filling during the wetter winter months. Capacity is held in the reservoir throughout the winter so that it retains capacity to mitigate downstream flooding by absorbing excess flow from the head-waters of the Afon Clywedog, a tributary of the River Severn . The reservoir was formed by damming both the Afon Clywedog and a much smaller embankment dam located at Bwlch-y-gle to prevent overflow into the next valley. Its concrete buttress dam is the tallest concrete dam in the UK, with a height of 72 metres and a length of 230 metres. When at capacity the reservoir contains approximately 50,000 megalitres of water. .
Below Clywedog reservoir dam
Construction of the dam started in 1963 after the passing of an Act of Parliament ordering its creation to help prevent flooding of the River Severn in winter and to maintain its water levels in the summer. Local opposition was strong against the construction of the reservoir as it would result in the flooding of much of the Clywedog valley and the drowning of 615 acres (2.5 km2) of agricultural land. On top of several disruptions and protests, during construction in 1966 a bomb was detonated within the construction site, setting work back by almost 2 months. The political extremist group Mudiad Amddiffyn Cymru (MAC) was widely suspected of carrying out the bombing.
The reservoir was opened in 1967 and till this day has been in continuous usage, generally filling with water over the winter months and gradually releasing it during the summer months. The reservoir is currently owned and operated by Severn Trent Water Limited with oversight and regulation by Natural Resources Wales. Clywedog Sailing Club operates on the lake, and Powys County Councils Staylittle Outdoor Centre delivers a range of adventure education both on the water and in the surrounding area.
The dam operating plant runs self-sufficiently from a 500 kW hydro-electric turbine. The area around Clywedog dam is now a popular leisure destination offering scenic walks and wildlife watching.
After I held this tiny toad in my hand, I made it a point to place him on the pleated leaves of a Mexican fan palm that is in our backyard since I thought the lines might "work" well visually.
What was unexpected was that the red color background in the upper left corner would create a visual impression that he was escaping from a red boiling cauldron....
(This handheld shot was taken in RAW and I then blended two different exposures - one exposed for the frog and one exposed for the leaf)
