I redid her makeup, with gold and brown eyeshadow, and coral red lips. I even repainted her pupils, mostly for practice. Doing makeup on the porcelains is harder for me than a regular faceup because I don't seal between layers so...one crooked eyelash and I have to start over! But it is peaceful work.

Sending a doll to the hospital is a very stressful event indeed. It's like shipping your child off to boarding school or something (okay, I'm being a little dramatic). I remember feeling concerned and worried every day that these girls were gone. Considering the size of my collection and the number of woebegone dolls I've rescued over the years, it's shocking that only three of them every needed to stay at the hospital. I'm quite handy at fixing things myself. That saves us the hassle and money. For instance, it was cheaper to buy a leg for Isabela (one of our Josefina doll's) on eBay, and for me to put it on myself. Likewise, I bought Kanani a cheap torso on eBay after her factory one tore right by the inner cups. Some repairs are best left to the "professionals" though, when it comes to a few things like eye changes and head replacements.
Addy and Kirsten are both childhood dolls. They were purchased directly from American Girl when we were growing up. Addy got her head replaced in 2003. She was my sixth birthday gift in 1997. I had no idea how to properly care for her hair. I brushed and brushed and brushed it (Tangled reference). I didn't know that the wig brush was a HUGE no no with her textured mane. I vividly recall sitting on my brown shag carpet in my bedroom, routinely brushing Addy's hair, and yanking massive clumps of her tresses from the brush with each stroke. Her hair got SO thin...Barbies had more on their heads! She was bald for the majority of the time she had her original head. After years of contemplation, I decided I would get her a new head. It made me sad to see her thin mane. I couldn't even play with it anymore (and Addy's awesome hair was my favorite feature of hers). My sister and I agonized over Addy's departure. I don't recall anymore how long she was actually gone, but it felt like an eternity. Dad let me get her head replaced that spring for a good report card. I remember the little yellow sparkly hair elastic I'd shipped her off wearing returned with my doll on her wrist. I was especially excited that her new head came complete with the factory ribbon. I recall the day I lost my first one at my mom's office cleaning job. Colleen and I spent forever scouring the entire building trying to find it. I tried my best to take better care of this head. She did lose some hair, because I still used the wig brush for a few years, but luckily it's reasonably thick. Nowadays I only use my fingers or a wide tooth comb for Addy and Aduke (my Beforever Addy). This hospital gown is adorable and the most realistic. I like that it came with a balloon too. How mine managed to stay inflated for over twenty years is beyond me!
Kirsten was the second gal to go to the hospital. She had silver eye since we were kids. Silver eye usually starts to happen within the first year or so of getting a doll (Mattel changed the eyes, so this hasn't been a problem since the early 2000s). Colleen and I don't specifically recollect when Kirsten's blue eyes started flaking. She was originally Colleen's doll--a Christmas 1998 gift. I ended up adopting her sometime later. She was always in magnificent shape, because Colleen never played with her, and I took immaculate care of her. She used to look like a cyborg. Her bad eye was half flaked, which gave her a super creepy look. We have other dolls in our collection with different levels of silver eye. Colleen's first Molly has it quite bad, but that's the face Colleen has always known (and she has many other Molly dolls that are pristine). Olive, my Asian Pleasant Company Bitty Baby, has one entirely silver eye and one perfectly brown one. But her silvering is so symmetrical it makes her look like she has heterochromia. Plus, I have Ming Mei, a Mattel Asian Bitty Baby, who is perfect. A few others have touches of silver eye that's not super noticeable, or bubble eye, which again isn't too prominent. Miss Larson was unfortunate. And she was, and still is, our only Kirsten. It really held her back....she never quite looked right in clothes. In the spring of 2016, Colleen and I mailed her out to American Girl's Doll Hospital to have her eyes replaced. We only had to pay the shipping, since silver eye is a factory defect (I'm not sure if it is still a free service). I'm so glad we made the decision because she was too nice a doll to leave with such messed up eyes. Her hospital gown is very cheerful looking. I love the flower print and the little socks!
Emerald, aka Felicity, is our most recent patient. She was also a new acquisition when I sent her away in the fall of 2021. Colleen was at a work study with the kids from her job, when she saw this Felicity doll at the thrift store they helped out at. When I picked her up that evening from work, she informed me about the American Girl stuff she'd seen. When I heard about a Felicity doll, I had to investigate for myself. I have seen my fair share of Miss Merriman dolls in the wild over the years. But I always managed to talk myself out of getting them. Something about Emerald wooed me. She was in horrible shape. She had makeup and nail polish all over her. One of her eyelashes was retracted completely. Her hair was dry and gross, and her body was filthy. I decided she needed a home badly, so I forked over the $35 for her (she wasn't worth that at all, but I couldn't leave her behind). When I was washing her, the metal clamps inside her body that held her legs in place failed, so they fell right off! That was an easy fix for me though. I tried to see if I could retrieve her lashes from her eye, but I wasn't able to do so. I also priced out eyes for her on eBay. However, eye swapping at home is a risky business. You can damage the doll's eye sockets, making the eyes unable to properly open and close permanently. Plus, the eyes are at least $25 on eBay or Mercari...and that's not necessarily for the right color. I know I could probably figure out how to do it myself, but the risk seems not worth the reward. Colleen asked the hospital via email if eyelash retractions were a free service, but they were not. According to AG wiki it is free...but that is either out of date info or just entirely incorrect. I didn't take too long to make the decision to pay to have her new eyes put in. Colleen pointed out that this shade of green would be in production because American Girl had recently released the 35th Anniversary dolls. Otherwise, I would have gotten my doll back with the more muted shade of green. I had only known Emerald for a few days, but I still worried about her. She couldn't have returned home on a better day! We had a lousy afternoon--my Jeep was flashing the "check gauges" light, so my uncle had to look at it. I was very stressed out, so seeing Emerald's box on the porch was welcome distraction. She is my prettiest Felicity doll by far...even though she was in the worst condition. Sometimes you get a doll that's a little extra special, and that's so very true of Emerald! Her hospital gown was recently introduced when I sent my doll away. It's very charming too, and I really love that socks were included with it as well. This hospital gown retired in 2024...so it wasn't available for long. Also, our doll hospital experience was way more high tech when we sent her in. We got email updates about Emerald throughout the process. We were able to pay online for her service and print out the shipping label ourselves. The shipping was free, which was a new thing for us. Oh, and she was only gone for like two weeks!

Thanks so much for all the thoughts and prayers. They were much appreciated. The surgery lasted about 6 hours, after over a 2 hour delayed start. It was a long day. My son should be discharged this morning and the prognosis sounds good.

Logo update for local artisanal bread company. The fellas were interested in a logo that expressed their company's personality and values: hand-made, American, artisanal, and unpretentious. Calling upon iron work, artisnal stamps, and letterpress culture I constructed this update. It beefs up their iconic b&w stamp and improves readability of their companies name.

well ive been feeling alot better. and ive gained some of my weight back however i lost so much weight i have like no more boobs D: lmfao. FML. oh well they'll come back. im goin back to school now but only for half days this week however we had a snowday today and w another storm on the way thts supposed to bring like 10-16 in of snow and sleet i think we'll have another one tomorrow. and i bowled again over the weekend and i bowled wicked good on sunday! 569 series! woo my games were a 191 a 202 and a 176. and i think my team was happy to have me back expecially angus since he was playin jokes on me again lmao. and im happy im starting to feel back to normal bc my friend Boots well thats what we call him his real names shawn made the top 20 finalists thing at tioga downs for karoke on friday nights so now hopefully i can go watch him and support him and stuffs :D AND BTW i also got my hair cut xD thts why it prolly looks short i know i know i was gonna grow it out but my mom was like NAG NAG NAG CUT THE BLACK ALL THE WAY OUT!

2444 07/06/2011: The main building and style still exists! When I saw heavy machinery and a fence around this property I presumed the worst, however it seems that Esso was merely "moving out". All the gas pumps and Esso signs were removed, now it's Lou's Auto.

Jig for cutting a wiring slot in the bottom of Kato unitrack super elevated curves for wiring a helix. Screws act as stops. I slotted all 9 sections in a couple of minutes.
