This view contrasts sharply with the sweeping elegance of the bridge over the River Itchen. It links the suburb of Woolston to the main city of Southampton and opened in 1977, replacing a 'floating bridge' vehicle ferry.

The wood was rough beneath me, warm from the sun but cracked and splintered in places like skin that's known both love and time. I let my body settle into the silence, the weight of the day slipping off my shoulders. Like I could be anyone. Or just finally be myself..
