I don't know if it's invented before. But the fact that connection system is a bit weird makes me believe there is not so many mad people... One unit takes me around 45 seconds to fold, it's really easy, 7 folds for a unit, bit to connect them you should use many(at least 5) paper clips. And the figure is stable only when wholly assembled. But I like it! I can't stop making these units...

I always dreamt to make an origami Bindweed (Вьюнок) but it's a fragile flower and there are some difficulties making it. Either it looks to easy or too complicated or crumpled.

I tried to enlarge the gap in the Star Track unit and came to this unit. This one is made with 1:4 rectangle because it's making the violet space almost a rhombus. But the other paper proportions can also serve well. As well as the changing of the connection's angle a bit. It tends to be resembling Miyuki Kawamura's Celes model, but the angles of the connection are different.
