The Iowa Horse Show was in town this past weekend which included Drill Teams, horse training shows like the above and a Rodeo so expect a few shots from there over next few weeks.
This trainer was showing how to work horses in a group and train the lead horse (the dappled gray one). The lighting was good in this building but space tigh so I took a close up of horse hide and used it to help filter out some of the busy background.
(I guess my filter works for macro Monday!)

A flight of Sanderlings glide into the wind for a perfect beach landing.

Tho this is an invasive species of wildflower /weed, it is hard to believe when you are you are struck by its beauty... it's as if these flower bells were singing in the wind... close your eyes and you can hear the..... Ahhhhhhh, to the "Hallelujah Chorus"... (I wonder if the little ant in one of the bells could hear the same thing?!)

This probably is the best description of what I am striving for in my backyard. Although I do some manipulation by planting things in some semblance of order that suits our lifestyle, I try to work in unison with nature to maintain a natural habitat for ourselves and the creatures who share this space with us. I have bird feeders that I start in the spring for the birds returning to our area. However, there is plenty of food for them in the garden without my help now. There are cedars for nesting and the trees also provide bugs for them to eat. There are baby Robins in the one nest and baby Chickadees in the birdhouse in the hedge. I have the main birdbath but also a few other watering stations which they enjoy. My lilacs are enticing the Hummingbirds and butterflies so there is no need to have feeders out for them. Once the Lilacs are done, there will be my honeysuckle blooms to keep them interested, as well as perennials that bloom at different stages of the summer. The bees will love the Lavender when it blooms. I do confess that I feed my chipmunk garden buddy nuts from time to time. The wild rabbit is allowed to nibble on a few of my blooms.
It is soothing to hear the birds frolicking and singing in the garden. I love the scents of the Lilacs, Lily of the Valley, Sweet Woodruff, and Lavender when I work in the garden. By doing just a bit of weeding and pruning from time to time, I bring a little bit of order to my own life, too.
From the International Crane Foundation, a Whooping Crane Unison Call is "A duet performed by a pair, to strengthen their bond and protect their territory." During recent visit to the cranes' wintering grounds, we were thrilled to hear it multiple times, and I was lucky enough to get this shot.
