I sat on a step and had sushi from Whole Foods the other day, meanwhile people watching.

I miss Philly and its food carts and amazing hole-in-the-wall sushi bar. :-\

Union Square Park NYC circa 1988.

It was just a little market back then, not the sprawling monolith it is today.

I met a couple in Union Square. The girl was taking picture of the boy. Look at her smile. She was very happy after the work was done. It must be a good shot!

Walking to the subway tonight I passed this chalk art in progress (the artist was off to the left). A large crowd had gathered to watch, and I was certainly not the only one taking photos!

I like to think I'm the only one who took this shot, though. (And given that I was the only one crouching to the ground, I think I was.)

This is Gabriel Angelo. He plays the trumpet in Union Square, his case open for passersby.

He had a story about a jazz her of his named Arturo Sandoval whose drummer heard Angelo playing one of Sandoval's songs out on the square. The drummer invited him to the green room of the Herbst theatre where Sandoval was playing for the SF Jazz Festival. Sandoval then asked Angelo to come on stage and play the song alongside him. Finding that Gabriel's trumpet was missing a piece, Sandoval gave him one of his custom-made trumpets, which he's playing here.

He's a charismatic guy. And impeccably dressed. And he has a blog . Check it out!

It turned into a "I've missed you" hug instead.
