beautiful path in the forest at the autumn

The Red Tip trees in our backyard are blooming now. At first glance there's nothing remarkable about them and for the longest time I never paid them any attention.

But one day while out gardening I took a closer look and was so surprised by how pretty those big puffy blooms are, full of tiny lacey flowerets.

This is not what I meant to post today. I had a plan actually, but my day was full of unexpected delays and I ran out of time and the goodwill of my PC.

Instead of the other thing I decided to use a homemade Christmas card as my project.

The card is in total 15 x 10 cm and the shown area about 4 cm in height.

it seems we are six at home now.

It was a long, icy trek from Hwy. 6 up to the right of way to capture this perspective of Spanish Fork Canyon near Tucker, Utah on New Year’s Eve, 1994. I was none too happy that SP’s KCROQ arrived uninvited to “photobomb” my Utah Railway coal train shot. Perspectives change, and now this view offers a snapshot of a relatively short-lived era along the former D&RGW. All is forgiven 😆

I had to look twice before I recognised the completely harmless nature of this epiphany. Pentacon 3.5/30 wide-open, close-up.

This merlin was being harassed by a couple of crows.

The light was poor and he was far away.

But I went and shot him anyway.

He turned out very sharp.

I am trying out ON1 photo editor. Very pleased.

An unexpected bridge on a hike. I like bridges, they ease the crossing of creeks and streams. Provide a place to stop and gather my thoughts. I look up and down this passive stream. Today its quiet and reflective. Tomorrow after a rain it could be noisy and swift.

- During my photo shoot with the Inca berry suddenly a ladybird/ladybug appeared on it.

I'm still wondering if this small beetle travelled with the berries from Colombia to The Netherlands or did it (gender neutral, I didn't investigate ;-) ) wake up while hibernating in my home ?

This year, I spend part of my holidays in Western Finland, since I’ve never had a chance to visit Pori nor Rauma. I was positively surprised by the fine beaches of Yyteri, located near Pori. Not only the looks and feeling of the sand, but also by its size.

When looking for that perfect composition, you sometimes do the unexpected. My husband and I were shooting an evening sky not knowing what to expect with the colors. We both were wearing long pants because of the bugs that were out to get a good meal. However, hubby had these marvellous pants where the legs zip off to make shorts so he could wade into the shallow water. When the sky suddenly showed promise of great reflections and color in the water as well as the sky above, he went for the better composition by going into the water. Then the sky truly exploded with color and I decided to just go for it and waded in with my long pants! There was a lady on shore who gasped when I went in fully clothed with camera and tripod to stand beside my husband. But I did get a nice shot ( which I will post later) and the pants dried quickly the next day.

Lost in the back streets of Venice...

The journey continues, follow me and thanks for the visits!

Quebec Gatineau surprised us today with extra QGRY 3537 West, leaving l'Ancienne Lorette yard at 1400 with their employee special Christmas train, bound for Trois-Rivières.

QGRY made absolutely no publicity about this move, the heads up came from a facebook post at noon (thanks Sam!). The Christmas consist was supposed to leave on westbound 920 but due to a weight pulling limit on the van (2500 tons max) the consist went as an extra move ahead of 920 this afternoon.

It was an overcast day. Late afternoon hike in woods led us around this glacial erratic. I would have just passed by but sun came out for a moment and the dappled light did its magic. Had to stop and pull out the camera.

Sunset in an early winter-night scene....where is the global warming????

Whilst up at Bowfiddle Rock in Portknockie the sky was amazing, I took this shot as I liked the unexpected leading line / shadows on the sea. Pulling my eye into the post sunset lightshow above :-) This was a long exposure using my kit lens and a single cokin ND8 filter.

This picture was such a pleasant surprise. We were visiting someone in Riverhead Long Island and stumbled upon this little Bison farm
