I wish life had un "undo" button
An accidental undo. After taking my photo of the reel I dropped the cassette tape. A C90 cassette has approximately 426 feet (130 meters) of tape...... I'm not sure I'll be rewinding it.
Hand in hand, they stride as one,
A bond unyielding, strong and true,
Toward the sun, their hearts begun,
A love that time will never undo.
step 1, success! got out through a kitchen window (thanks Árni for help figuring out how to undo the latch), and have gotten the front door open again — hurrah!

While the seasons will undo your soul
Time forgives us and it takes control
We separate our things to put us back together
We're light as a feather
Heavy as the weather

Looking back through the Lightroom smart collections. One of the nice things about Lr is its ability to create virtual folders. I have virtual folders set to collect TIFF files which are flattened versions of images upon which I've worked that I think are finished. It's from these that I post to Flickr. I mark them as posted and so they don't show up in those virtual folders anymore. It helps my ADD brain stay organized.
(Life can be a bit odd with an ADD brain and OCD tendencies)
When I came across this one looking for a photo that involved trees in some way, I wondered if I might modify it using newer old information.
This was edited in 2020 about the time of capture. Just recently I've been reading old books about editing. So I have new, old knowledge.
I've been reading both the second and first editions of Real World Image Sharpening. The first ed is from 2007 by Bruce Fraser. The second ed is from 2010. Bruce passed away after the first ed but is listed as author of the second, along with Jeff Schewe. The content delves into the underlying nuts and bolts of scanned images and digitally captured images. The first ed came out when Ps version 9 was new. The second ed was published when Ps v11 was new. Ps is now on v23, but the information in these books is timeless.
Why do images need noise reduction? Why do they need sharpening? How can noise reduction and sharpening be constrained to appropriate sections of images? What is Capture sharpening? What is Content sharpening? What is Output sharpening? What are edge masks? What are surface masks?
When is there too much of a good thing?
Anyway, all that rumbling around in my brain had me go back to this image and undo what I had over cooked, and redo in a more subtle fashion.
Happy Tree-mendous Tuesday!

The Ferrari 250 GTO gets its name from this mighty V12 engine. It is a 3 litre engine and so each cylinder displacement is 250cc. The bonnet, or hood, is held down by a couple of clips on either side and then further secured by the small leather straps and metal buckles. On this 1/18th scale model, this has been faithfully reproduced and is about 2mm wide. To undo them and open the hood, I had to put on my reading glasses, then put on another pair of much stronger ones over the top and get my eyes down to within 6 inches. Then it was a bit of careful use of tweezers and a tiny screw driver (both supplied as part of the model) and carefully undo the buckle and tiny leather strap. Now that it is undone, I doubt I will manage to get it done up again, but it was worth it to see that wonderful engine bay.

It was a fabulous night to be embraced by the Dancers as they coloured the night sky in their fabulous flowing forms. No minute the same as the last as the light ripples and rounds reaching out and pulling back returning in new hue and a replenished splendour. Above the sight, within the brain lifting and the heart following the dance and below the frame of the canvas holding everything both seen and unseen all together in every moment brilliant bright and shadowed night thrilling the soul and joy available at each precise instance and every such sought and unsought experience. Please note this feeling of the awesome character of the Dancing Aurora Borealis is not universally found.
Q. Why did the Aurora Photographer cross the road?
A. To follow the dance through the Constellations of coarse.
It needs work...

"Great Scott! We must have caused a paradox at some point in the past! This looks nothing like the 2015 that I saw when I traveled here before, at some point the timeline split creating this divergent timeline where there are no flying cars, no Pepsi Perfect, no Jaws 19 and the Cubs are a game from being eliminated from going to the World Series!

Just as the laws of physics would espouse the triangles in the sky in the first photograph proceed through the sequence of pictures, each at Eight Seconds of open Shutter time, as a diminishing light trail that is visible approaching the horizon taking seemingly longer to recede from sight. The fixed observer through the camera pictures sees the triangles in one image and then their condensed light trail is seen again and again racing to the horizon. The curvature of path of the satellite and the curvature of the atmosphere of planet Earth combine to make the trajectory through the camera pictures appear to differ and to slow as it takes just the right amount of time to arc on and on returning and repeating the orbital trace of a near Earth bright object.
The triangle lights are being seen in many peoples photographs in 2023 to 2024. There are links to the triangular lights all over the web. With a host of Aurora Borealis hunters looking at the huge current surge in Aurora within the night sky the Triangles have been much seen and widely reported on all around The World. I see some reports that these lights are SpaceX Starlink satellites.

This is pure fun for me, but I recognise that you may have had enough.... feel free to ignore me! I continue to search for a better autumn shot!
Photoshop blur/unblur.
(People often ask how this is done, so here goes:
Open the file in Photoshop.
Add a duplicate layer.
Go to the blur tool, choose motion blur. Select about 650 px and 90 degrees.
Add a layer mask, the tool for this is on the layers palette, the one that is a rectangle with a circle in the middle.
Use the brush tool to unblur parts of the image. You can change the opacity and flow to varying amounts, say 100% at the bottom, then use 50% a bit higher up, and 10% in the trees…. Its up to you!
Then, because you’re working on a layer mask, if you do too much you can undo it again by changing from the black to white block (bottom left) and vice versa.
I finish the processing in Lightroom because that’s what I’m used to, tone curve, contrast etc.)

A DREAM PANG
Robert Frost
I had withdrawn in forest, and my song
Was swallowed up in leaves that blew alway;
And to the forest edge you came one day
(This was my dream) and looked and pondered long,
But did not enter, though the wish was strong:
You shook your pensive head as who should say,
'I dare not - too far in his footsteps stray -
He must seek me would he undo the wrong.
Not far, but near, I stood and saw it all
Behind low boughs the trees let down outside;
And the sweet pang it cost me not to call
And tell you that I saw does still abide.
But 'tis not true that thus I dwelt aloof,
For the wood wakes, and you are here for proof.

This here back pack, satchel, un sac a dos. This has lasted me through the ages. It is, by far, the greatest back pack ever. It's compact in width and height but rather deep. And, it has this here zipper on the back that you can undo and add an additional 2-3 inches in depth. I've had it since my freshman year in high school. And seven years later, here it is in all its glory.

Once upon a time Vin and I had started a roleplay world inspired by Jim Henson's Labyrinth; in particular what happened AFTERWARDS. We've decided to create the characters that inhabited this world of the Underground and its King/Queendoms, and bring them to life. It all started with Jareth and Sarah's children and their epic love stories...and it has epically continued on and on through the generations.
What this world means to Vin and me...it is more than words can say. We put our souls into this world and what it represents. But it is our pleasure and excitement to be able to bring them to life.
The ones who kickstarted our whole story was Amalie (the eldest child of Jareth and Sarah who become the first Pure One) and Ciaran (a disgraced Raven prince who was the first to be known as: The Raven).
Upon first meeting, Ciaran did everything in his power (using rather cruel tactics) to scare away and send home the young woman who had come to his realm. He saw her as an enemy; someone who could and would undo everything he'd worked so hard for...
However Amalie was able to see past the mask and see Ciaran for who he really was: a misunderstood, broken man. She helped him regain his 'humanity' and therefore in him gained not only her greatest protector...but the love of her life.
Here in this scene, we're going behind closed doors. Heh, Amalie has always been Ciaran's greatest weakness and as he's told her numerous times, "You are always such a tease." After all one of her favorite things to do was tease and turn her husband on to see how quickly he would lose himself (especially since she appeared so sweet and innocent in public most of the time).
~
I have Vin to thank for setting up these poses and scene! Much rawrness to be had!

Paloma Faith - Only Love Can Hurt Like This (Official Video)
Amar puede herirte, puede deshacerte, puede romperte...
Amar solo puede doler así....
pero es la tortura más azucarada,
flameando chispas por mis venas.....
El amor es una tortura que me hace más segura....
Solo la pasión puede doler así.....
Loving can hurt you, it can undo you, it can break you ...
Loving can only hurt like this ...
but it's the sweetest torture,
sparks fluttering through my veins .....
Love is a torture that makes me safer ...
Only passion can hurt like this .....

This is where the Mistaya River plunges into a deep canyon. It's a two image composite, both shots taken from the same spot with different exposures. I didn't use HDR blending because the water was quite different in each and would not blend well. And I considered - but didn't use - a neutral density grad in the field.
Instead, I took the best exposure of the sky and distant mountain, selected it in CS6 and created a new layer, superimposed it on the best exposure of the foreground, and blended to taste. Flattened the layers. Smoothed the barely visible cut lines (you can't even see them on the 300 ppi version). After that there was a lot of dodging and burning, just like in the old darkroom days but with more control (because in digital adjustments you can undo a mistake). Also some selective colour adjustments, warming the foreground a little.
Strange, in a way: all this manipulation to get it to look as much as possible as it did when I saw it in real life. Go figure.

Surrendering time to the ensuing morning Märztag breeze
it's ambience exudes itself beyond catagorisation
it's language speaks by light and shadow
a foretaste of the reflected déjà vu from past months
telling the priceless peerage of continuous season
interlocking is the pedigree of Nature's ascent
to the throne we crown with our today's and tomorrow's
learning from the errors of our infected pulmonic yesterdays
a good morning cough to clear the phlegm of bacterial falsehoods
the germ of human's disportment forever the infection
of a being so very gifted and yet so terribly arrogant
perplexing naïvety is nauseous for generations constant bemoaning
what is the prerequisite for living in today's world?
and more to the point, who on earth can answer this?
two words abound with so few signs of the genuineness
'free' and 'love' are in demand, but increasingly hard to trace
shallow is the love from the heart of our supposed politicians
choice is no longer free from the implied "society" formulated
by think-tanks firing on all cylinders and missing every target
the gentle style of cultured existence seeks it's own path
and should be allowed to mellow with age, in peace
to degrade and degenerate a whole swathe of human emotion,
that was built on trust, belief in human spirit and understanding,
is to utterly negate our right to coexist on this planet
with nature's children in our midst, the followers of instinct
may teach us so much that has been hitherto hard to swallow
the birdsong you take for granted spells life for another granted day
our nonfeasance in the wake of wilful plunder and toxication
in the name of corporate gain, or globalisation..a byword for slavery
of every living being that must choke in retreating freedoms of purity
respire is the first lesson in life, yet, how we wish to undo such a gift
now, again, regimes resorb each and every one's right to the basics of living
a sickening parasite at the top of a pile of it's own victims
related by genes yet to the death we fight for the power of printed paper
forged into our makeup is a hiccup of modernism in urgent need of a shake-up
tantamount to evil are our leaders beguiling a rendition of atrocities of yore
can we not wake and grow up, for we are the lowest of the low in nature's rank
and file for a divorce of duty in our negation of one very splendid planet
we, we, we heed the lighthouse's warning, yet run aground we have
shipwrecked again, the poor must salvage what was theirs by rights
stolen over generations and squandered over markets, the gold of heart
irreplaceable is the spirit that brings us together...so, a plea, please hear me
never undervalue a soul of little obvious material wealth,
for they hold the key to the Earth's primary reserves and treasures,
they are the inspiration, the survivors, the winners of tomorrow
they are the credence in the face of adversity
they know no greed for materials or calorie control
they could be you and me...if only...if only we could see.

Dani women with carrying nets prepare a traditional Melanesian cooking pit lined with grass and heated stones of fine grain limestone. The occasion is a traditional pig feast inside the oval courtyard of a Dani compound, set high in a remote corner of West Papua's central highlands at 1600m/5200ft above sea level. Irian Jaya, Indonesia. Digital film scan, semi-automatic Pentax point-and-shoot pocket camera, circa 1996.
The main steam bundle was built up with alternate layers of wet long grass, pork, a whole pig skin with its heavy layer of fat, vegetables, ferns and more heated rocks. Water was poured on the rocks from a gourd to make more steam. Banana leaves were added to several of these layers to help capture the steam.
Smaller grass-wrapped steam bundles containing sweet potatoes, vegetables and other greens from the elaborate gardens nearby were also placed in the pit. One of the small steam bundles can be seen at the centre of activity around the smoldering pit.
This preparatory process took about an hour, then another hour or more for the cooking, and several more hours for food distribution and feasting. The entire process took close to a full day that included a ritualized killing of the piglet with a bow and arrow, a gathering of materials for the earth oven (wood, grass, stones, food), making the fire, and heating the stones.
It is the men's role to kill the pig, make the fire, prepare the heated stones, undo the steam bundles, cut the pig skin into strips with a sharpened bamboo knife, and distribute the food according to a predetermined pattern of exchange and reciprocity among members from this and several other neighbouring compounds.

Theme Rules: A simple idea with many possibilities! For this challenge, include yarn somewhere in your photo. You could use fashion (a sweater, a scarf), feature it in a diorama (room decorations, a blanket on the couch), or show your doll shopping at a craft store or him/her knitting a project. You could even weave the yarn into your doll’s hair for an editorial portrait. Get creative!
This photo: Elizabeth spends her Sunday afternoon taking stock of all the Christmas presents she has crocheted (or purchased from the Crafty Rat) that she must now wrap. Her cat is proving no help as he wants to undo all the yarn she's carefully wound. :)
I can feel it all around
in every song in every sound
in the mountains in the trees
I feel it in the air I breathe
hear the whisper
in your ear
I´m in love
I do not fear
inside your heart
beneath your skin
it´s in the dream
you're living in
can you rise from the dirt
can you love like you´ve never been hurt?
if you´ve been hurt
can you still believe
can you set your spirit free?
~Eivør, lyrics "Undo Your Mind"

"Let me tell you something. It's too late to be pessimistic -- really too late. We all have a part of the solutions."
~Yann Arthus-Bertrand, environmentalist and photographer.
Harbor seals are a key component of local Alaskan culture and diet, but are now listed as an Alaska Species of Special Concern. This status reflects the long-term decline in their abundance, restricted distribution, reliance on limited habitat resources, and sensitivity to environmental perturbations. Despite several conservation measures in past two decades to promote their population, their numbers have consistently plummeted in the Glacier Bay area, where the above photo was created. This significant decline (a 65% attenuation since early 1990s) within protected areas of a national park is in contrast with their numbers in other parts of the world, that have been resilient to man-made disturbances and shown signs of recovery. While the exact cause of such decline is not established, it is nonetheless considered a sensitive indicator of future changes in the area, such as ocean warming. Because oceans are not just warming up in Alaska, the decline in Glacier Bay harbor seal numbers could be a harbinger of concerning global phenomenon.
Talking about concerning global phenomenon, this year has been extraordinary in the course of recorded history. The North American winter lingered on heavily into summer and then summer came and blew all records through the roof. Anchorage – whose average summer temperatures are in low 60s – experienced temperatures in 90s this summer. Greenland ice is melting by billions of tons half a century before they were estimated to do so. Amazon forests – the lungs of this planet – are on fire. The Australian great barrier reef has been under constant deterioration and this year, it was officially cited to be in a ‘poor state’, a polite way of stating the loss of hope. Believe it or not, we are now beginning to reap, in heaps, what we have sowed for decades.
Now what? New York city is building a five-mile long wall in Staten Island to hold the surging ocean back during hurricanes and the inevitable higher seas of the future. Indonesia is abandoning its sinking capital Jakarta and building a new one (although this one has thick layers of political incentives tied in along with climate change). But are these our solutions? Will our children and grandchildren build flood walls around their homes or will they evacuate the increasingly hostile planet en mass in spaceships to nowhere? The answer is obvious.
What’s not obvious is how do we undo all the mess we have created for ourselves. First things first, we must remain optimistic. The job on hand is enormous, but not undoable. Concerted conservation efforts have already yielded a few bright sparks of hope: many threatened species – humpback whales for example – have sprung back from the brink. To reduce carbon emission, Science has given us electric vehicles, solar panels and is now working on 'supercharged plants' that are supposed to store more carbon-di-oxide away from the atmosphere than regular plants. While scientists are doing their jobs on front lines, we could all do our tiny bit to help: skip the car as often as possible, choose appropriately and then use and reuse day-to-day material instead of recycling them (which arguably leaves a bigger carbon footprint), elect office bearers who have appreciation for our planet as a whole, and take only what we need when our turn comes at the table. As Gandhi said, mother earth has plenty for everyone’s need, but not enough for anyone’s greed. The seals – and rest of the living species including us – still have a chance if we remain hopeful and encourage each other to make environmentally-conscious choices, so that one day human carbon-di-oxide emissions are limited only to our noses and nothing else.

A lonely mother gazin' out of the window
Staring at her son that she just can't touch
If at any time he's in a jam, she'll be by his side
But he doesn't realize he hurts her so much
But all the praying just ain't helping at all
'Cause he can't seem to keep his self out of trouble
So he goes out and he makes his money the best way he knows how
Another body layin' cold in the gutter, listen to me
Don't go chasin' waterfalls
Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to
I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all
But I think you're moving too fast
Little precious has a natural obsession
For temptation but he just can't see
She gives him loving that his body can't handle
But all he can say is, "Baby it's good to me"
One day he goes and take a glimpse in the mirror
But he doesn't recognize his own face
His health is fading and he doesn't know why
Three letters took him to his final resting place, y'all, don't hear me
Don't go chasin' waterfalls
Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to
I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all
But I think you're moving too fast
Ah c'mon
I seen a rainbow yesterday,
But too many storms have come and joined
Leavin' a trace of not one God-given ray
Is it because my life is ten shades of gray
I pray, all ten fade away seldom praise Him for the sunny days
And like His promise is true only my faith can undo
The many chances I blew to bring my life to anew
Clear and blue and unconditional
Skies have dried the tears from my eyes, no more lonely cries
My only bleedin' hope is for the folk who can't cope
With such an endurin' pain that it keeps them in the pourin' rain
Who's to blame for tootin' caine into your own vein
What a shame, you shoot and aim for someone else's brain
You claim the insane and ain't this day and time for fallin'
Prey to crime I say the system got you victim to your mind
Dreams are hopeless aspirations in hopes of coming true
Believe in yourself, the rest is up to me and you
Don't go chasin' waterfalls
Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to
I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all
But I think you're moving too fast
Oh you're moving too fast
Don't go chasin' waterfalls
Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to
I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all
But I think you're moving too fast
Along for the ride, and to provide motivation. (There were several other dogs in boats out on the water during the hour I was there.)
There is a "rule" (a.k.a. guideline) of composition that you should leave space in the frame ahead of a moving person or object, or in the direction a person is looking, so they have somewhere to go before hitting the edge of the image. But the man here is facing backward as he rows. Oh, what to do?!
I had cropped out a lot of empty water to enlarge my subject and didn't want to undo that, but I did not want to lose that sparkling wake, either. I decided, as you can see, that this position felt right, with not only his unseen face but also his arms and oars pointing to his beloved dog and further astern. If there is slight tension from the bow almost hitting the frame, echoed and propelled by the angled ripples in the foreground, it seems to work. And, finally, the tension of opposing diagonals seems, to me, to drive this image.
(By the way. Google Maps is weird. There is a Ten Pound Island in Gloucester Harbor--the reputed origin of the name has several competing versions---but what was historically Five Pound Island was long ago built over by the Jodrey State Fishing Pier and its adjacent marina, which is filled with mostly commercial vessels. So, if you visit Gloucester, you can see where I shot this photo, but you will search in vain for Five Pound Island.)

Johann Baptist Reiter

Being placed behind shining glass this painting can be looked at and photographed only sideways. Of course it was a little bit complicated to undo the distortions afterwards, but I took the trouble, because I like this picture very much.
As to the colour of the noodles: they must be wholemeal pasta;-)
A sunset shot on a mobile phone might look good on said phone. But if I look at it on a screen, it looks worse than an impressionist painting. There's nothing I can do to undo that awful over-sharpness. And thank you. I have seen iPhone shots, it's always the same. I know a guy who works for Leica, and he seemed to have a better mobile phone (as far as photo quality goes), but it wasn't an iPhone. This sunset shot here is horrible. And I can only upload it as a post stamp (sizewise). If at all.
The two cropped in views are firstly a cropped in view of the fisheye image and secondly a cropped in view with the image adjusted to minimise the fisheye view.
These pictures taken with Minolta16mm f2.8 Fisheye lens, Lightroom and other recognition software believes that it is SAL16F28 a Sony 16mm f2.8 Fisheye lens. There are no lens profile adjustments made to the images. Just as I do not make adjustments to the images to be treated as taken by a Sony Lens I do not try to find out how to undo any incorrect attribution. The two lenses could be very similar even near identical, all I know is that this wonder is from Minolta. This description is way too long, is it oft stated if I had more time then I would send better in fewer words?

The Grade I Listed Caldey Priory, on Caldey Island, in Pembrokeshire.
Part of the extensive remains of a small medieval priory on site of a Celtic Christian community allegedly established in 5th or 6th Centuries by Pyro after whom the island may have been named Ynys Pyr. Re-founded by the Normans in 12th Century. Robert Fitzmartin, Lord of Cemaes, was granted the island in 1113, and his mother Geva founded the priory.
The priory was never large, only one monk being recorded in late 12th Century, four in 1402 and six in 1504. The buildings were altered to quite a high standard in the 16th Century, although there is no evidence that either the Bradshaws or Philpins, successive owners, were ever resident.
The buildings then declined to farmhouse status, with the house in the former church. The buildings then became the service ranges of a new house built to the north for Thomas Kynaston, owner from 1798. The island was sold in 1867 to J. Hawksley who revived the agriculture of the island, and in 1897 to the Rev W D Bushell, who restored the priory, (some restoration may have begun for T S Cunningham, owner 1894-7).
The church had had a malt-kiln in the nave and laundry in the chancel, the east range being servants' bedrooms, and the entrance arch a lime-store. Bushell sold the island in 1906 to the Anglican Benedictine community that built the new Caldey monastery 1907-13, but rented the house and priory until his death in 1917. The house was demolished in the 1970s.
Analysis by Neil Ludlow has shown a very complex story of alterations both pre and post Reformation that undo Bushells simpler analysis that the basic monastery survived intact. He thought the west range was guest accommodation over the vaulted entry and a ground floor chamber, the east range the dormitory over kitchen, and the north east tower the prior's accommodation, which he supposed to pre-date the other buildings. He thought a north range, now demolished, may have held a refectory.

Tears Roll Up
Pushing the sound away, to hear clearer
is that what it takes to turn life around
awaiting the voice of some divined one
as all that's been lost is still no nearer
yesterday's damn and blast hardly helps today
it's legacy roams my thoughts like a devilish fox
my hope is but a stretcher bearer
seeking another way out of this hellish foray
dust to dust has turned quickly to mud
entrenched in the bitterness of struggle
like nothing else on Earth before it
there is not a single thing of compare to spilled blood
it's eternal mind is my mortal body
irretrievable upon notice of life's final demand
oh the anguish! oh the tumultuous torrent of torment,
trying to stay afloat, isn't this all that survival must embody?
still...no voice, no signifying choice
hands so adept at escape become landlocked and inept
society is occupationally haphazard
for the craft of etching the right tone of voice
the night has passed like a crucifer
what did this silence spell I'm left to wonder
that slight form illuminated by a sickly tuna-hued moon
now lacquered by the cold light of a day it will outsuffer
so to this moment, this respite, this lacuna
unseen by the meanest energumen attacks
pitted against the wits of the minutes accounted
the darkness prevails for now the hours turn to Fortuna
my God, my humbling, my second coming
it was said so nobody can deny
only a mere myth can act like a fly -
upon the pulse of a giant taking note and succumbing
to the throng and buzz of flight's insight
through the eyes an untold mystery speaks it's mind
heard afar is it's cry of silent running
outdone by the victorious gain of countenancing foresight
isn't that the way to go...a meson lesson of the bigger picture
recounting the unseen, unheard, unmentioned 'mere' rumour
we let run amok without authentication from our space
then, without further ado, rasp and undo with unremorseful stricture
who are we trying to fool in this be-jungled techophobic sleaze palace?
the mire is nigh but it's heavily peopled with followers
of it's fashion conscious, spellbinding edicts
this is one time to step out of line without malice
be and see yourself afresh without permissions
no governmental guidelines or life-serving suggestions
we can do without, thank you, now let life resume
for every heart, we will always refreshingly outnumber the statisticians.
