I've had a lot on my mind today. Just thinking about the state of the world, our country, and the injustices. How people are closed-minded enough to feel others don't deserve the privileges they themselves enjoy because the "others" aren't like them (opponents of same-sex marriages, for example). Or how those who aren't white struggle almost every day because our country is designed to accommodate whites. How a large portion of our country still judges people based on the color of their skin.

Yeah, it's a lot. It's depressing. It's frustrating. It induces a feeling of helplessness, even though I am involved and give back to my community through charity work (www.turningwheelsforkids.org).

But I know I'm not alone in the desire to fight for change. For a better America. And today I'm clinging to a song by my favorite band, and I'd like to share the lyrics with you so you can understand why, and what we have to do.

"You Might Die Trying"

To change the world

start with one step

However small

first step is hardest of all

Once you get your gait

you'll be walking tall

You said you never did

cause you might die tryin'

cause you might die tryin'

cause you

If you close your eyes

because the house is on fire

and think you couldn't move

until the fire dies

The things you never did

cause you might die tryin

cause you might die tryin

you'll be as good as dead

cause you might die tryin

cause you might die tryin

If you give you begin to live

if you give you begin to live

you begin

you get the world

if you give you begin to live

you get the world

you get the world

if you give you begin to live

you might die tryin....

This is a photograph from the second running of the newly situated Irish 3/4 Marathon (formerly the Athlone 3/4) which was held in Longwood, Enfield, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 8th of October 2017 at 10:00. The event is positioned perfectly in the calendar as a key training race before the Dublin City Marathon at the end of the month. This year was the second year that the event was held in Longwood, Co. Meath which is now well known for its hosting of the Longwood 10KM/5KM annual races and a host venue for East of Ireland Marathon series marathons on a bi-annual basis. The race started and finished at Longwood GAA club just outside the village of Longwood. It followed an anti-clockwise course around the beautiful picturesque countryside of south Meath. The course went through the townlands of Longwood, Castlerickard, Killyon, Hill-of-Down, Anneville and Ashfield Clonard, Blackshare, Stoneyford and back to Longwood. The river Boyne and Blackwater were crossed as was the Royal Canal and the Dublin-Sligo Railway line at Hill-of-Down. Overall this was a very different course to the previous years in Athlone. The overall elevation of the course works out at 3/4 of the total elevation of the Dublin Marathon course. What most stood out about today's race was the course and how the countryside around it looked on a beautiful almost perfect Autumn morning. There was a large local effort with stewarding and many local people watched from their gardens as the race passed by. The organisation of the race was first class with every detail taken care of from the start until the finish. There was some rain showers from about 13:00 onwards but these soon passed.

There is a large set of photographs from today's race - taken at the start in Longwood village and the 25KM mark outside near our home.

They are available on our Flickr photostream at the following set. www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72157687694983023

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

"I Don’t Understand Language" [II] (2009) (6 min. 21. sec) with performers David Arner, Alan Baer, John Beaulieu, Jenny Fox, Jan Harrison, Alana Siegel, Charles Stein, and Sherry Williams, created for the occasion of “Talking Tongues and Other Organs,” a performance in Woodstock, New York, at the Kleinert Gallery, February 26th, 2009. The apparent nonsense of the statement uttered by eight adults (artists, poets, musicians, and an architect) is played out in various states of expression, performative of its own liminality between serious claim and absurdity—a sort of agonizing play as self-fulfilling prophecy. It holds us at the threshold between understanding language and the impossibility of language. Many voices saying what even one voice can’t entirely say. The words become a voiced site of physical interaction around a charged axis, belonging to all as much as any one, and therefore none. Trans-comprehensible language momentarily passing through, and possessing, eight people.

Side Ancient City

tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Side

Side (Greek: Σίδη) is an ancient Greek city on the southern Mediterranean coast of Turkey, a resort town and one of the best-known classical sites in the country. It lies near Manavgat and the village of Selimiye, 78 km from Antalya in the province of Antalya.

It is located on the eastern part of the Pamphylian coast, which lies about 20 km east of the mouth of the Eurymedon River. Today, as in antiquity, the ancient city is situated on a small north-south peninsula about 1 km long and 400 m across

History[edit]

Strabo and Arrian both record that Side was founded by Greek settlers from Cyme in Aeolis, a region of western Anatolia. This most likely occurred in the 7th century BC. Its tutelary deity was Athena, whose head adorned its coinage.

Dating from the tenth century B.C., its coinage bore the head of Athena (Minerva), the patroness of the city, with a legend. Its people, a piratical horde, quickly forgot their own language to adopt that of the aborigines.

Possessing a good harbour for small-craft boats, Side's natural geography made it one of the most important places in Pamphylia and one of the most important trade centres in the region. According to Arrian, when settlers from Cyme came to Side, they could not understand the dialect. After a short while, the influence of this indigenous tongue was so great that the newcomers forgot their native Greek and started using the language of Side. Excavations have revealed several inscriptions written in this language. The inscriptions, dating from the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC, remain undeciphered, but testify that the local language was still in use several centuries after colonisation. Another object found in the excavations at Side, a basalt column base from the 7th century BC and attributable to the Neo-Hittites, provides further evidence of the site's early history. The name Side may be Anatolian in origin, meaning pomegranate.

Next to no information exists concerning Side under Lydian and Persian sovereignty.

Alexander the Great

Vespasian Gate

Temple of Apollo

Alexander the Great occupied Side without a struggle in 333 BC. Alexander left only a single garrison behind to occupy the city. This occupation, in turn, introduced the people of Side to Hellenistic culture, which flourished from the 4th to the 1st century BC. After Alexander's death, Side fell under the control of one of Alexander's generals, Ptolemy I Soter, who declared himself king of Egypt in 305 BC. The Ptolemaic dynasty controlled Side until it was captured by the Seleucid Empire in the 2nd century BC. Yet, despite these occupations, Side managed to preserve some autonomy, grew prosperous, and became an important cultural centre.

Walls of the ancient theatre of Side

In 190 BC a fleet from the Greek island city-state of Rhodes, supported by Rome and Pergamum, defeated the Seleucid King Antiochus the Great's fleet, which was under the command of the fugitive Carthaginian general Hannibal. The defeat of Hannibal and Antiochus the Great meant that Side freed itself from the overlord-ship of the Seleucid Empire. The Treaty of Apamea (188 BC) forced Antiochus to abandon all European territories and to cede all of Asia Minor north of the Taurus Mountains to Pergamum. However, the dominion of Pergamum only reached de facto as far as Perga, leaving Eastern Pamphylia in a state of uncertain freedom. This led Attalus II Philadelphus to construct a new harbour in the city of Attalia (the present Antalya), although Side already possessed an important harbour of its own. Between 188 and 36 BC Side minted its own money, tetradrachms showing Nike and a laurel wreath (the sign of victory).

In the 1st century BC, Side reached a peak when the Cilician pirates established their chief naval base and a centre for their slave-trade.

Romans

The consul Servilius Vatia defeated these brigands in 78 BC and later the Roman general Pompey in 67 BC, bringing Side under the control of Rome and beginning its second period of ascendancy, when it established and maintained a good working relationship with the Roman Empire.

Emperor Augustus reformed the state administration and placed Pamphylia and Side in the Roman province of Galatia in 25 BC, after the short reign of Amyntas of Galatia between 36 and 25 BC. Side began another prosperous period as a commercial centre in Asia Minor through its trade in olive oil. Its population grew to 60,000 inhabitants. This period would last well into the 3rd century AD. Side also established itself as a slave-trading centre in the Mediterranean. Its large commercial fleet engaged in acts of piracy, while wealthy merchants paid for such tributes as public works, monuments, and competitions as well as the games and gladiator fights. Most of the extant ruins at Side date from this period of prosperity.

One of the maps (portolani) of Piri Reis, taken from the Kitab-i Bahriye, which Piri produced in several editions, supplementing in 1520, but integrating it into subsequent editions.

Side was the home of Eustathius of Antioch, of the philosopher Troilus, of the fifth-century ecclesiastical writer Philip; of the famous lawyer Tribonian

To understand the behavior and fate of juvenile salmon (and funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers), researchers from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the National Marine Fisheries Service developed a sophisticated yet simple underwater acoustic fish tracking system. The system consists of autonomous receivers, anchored to the bottom of the river, and microtransmitters on the fish. Flat round anchors are attached to the long yellow receivers or nodes to keep them in place on the turbulent river bottom.

The 11th running of the Fields of Athenry 10km took place on St. Stephen's day, December 26th 2012 at 11:00 in Athenry, Co. Galway, Ireland. This is one of the leading 10KM road races in Ireland. It is hard to believe that the race is "only" eleven years old. It's superb organisation, atmosphere, and great race history gives it the characteristic of a race that is many years older. The credit for this goes to the wonderful athletic's club in Athenry AC. The weather turned out to be the greatest adversary today. To describe the rain as near apocalyptic would not be underestimating the weather. Some pools of water on the roads had turned into mini-lakes with water several inches deep. Regardless of the weather overall this is a superb race. The atmosphere amongst the runners, spectators, and organisers on the first running day after Christmas Day is superb and is a wonderful way to finish off the running year. As each runner crossed the finish line there was smiles and handshakes - the weather had not got the better of them. The race has earned it's stripes as one of the leading road races in Ireland.

The race started at the Railway station and then took in a loop of the famous fields of Athenry where it turns left and begins it's return to the town and finished under the medival arch in Athenry town for a fittingly atmospheric finish to the race. Race HQ is in the Presentation College in Athenry.

Today we captured a very nice set of photographs of the event given the apocalyptic rain. Well done to everyone involved. We captured photographs from the overall winner to about the 52 minute finish time. By this time cameras and cameramen were saturated beyond recognition!

As part of a shared commitment to advance the health and vitality of the St. Johns River, Jacksonville University’s Marine Science Research Institute (MSRI) and the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) are partnering to launch an educational initiative called Connected, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of the St. Johns River as a vital natural resource.

“The St. Johns River is the heartbeat of our city and our region, and as a community, we are all connected to the river in some way,” said MSRI Executive Director Dr. Quinton White, who has studied the St. Johns River and its diverse wildlife for more than 40 years. “As neighbors across the river, Jacksonville University and JAXPORT both understand how important the river is to our thriving city. We share a common goal of ensuring the river is healthy for future generations, because our environment and economy depend on it.”

Every year, the river carries 10 million tons of cargo through JAXPORT, pumping more than $31 billion into the regional economy. It’s also home to thousands of species that depend on the river for survival. Powered by funding from JAXPORT, Connected brings together research, education and global commerce in a mission to educate and engage the community on a broad range of topics related to the river.

“I am pleased to see two organizations that are dear to my heart come together for such an important partnership,” said JAXPORT Immediate Past Chairman Jamie Shelton, who also serves as Chairman of the JU Board of Trustees. “I look forward to seeing the incredible educational opportunities that will come from this partnership, and the positive impact it will have on the health and vitality of our river for generations to come,” Shelton continued.

“I am a firm believer that there is a nexus between commerce and protecting the environment,” said JAXPORT CEO Eric Green. “As the largest commercial user of the harbor, we are proud to do our part to help facilitate the connection between environmental stewardship and economic opportunity, ultimately benefiting our river and community.”

As Northeast Florida’s leading environmental research institution, the Marine Science Research Institute at Jacksonville University offers scientific expertise and educational resources to further the mission of the Connected partnership at local schools and community groups. MSRI faculty will offer informative lectures, interactive activities, and resources for educators on topics that include: ecosystems and wildlife found in and around the river; hydrology and water cycles; the river’s role in our city’s history; and its importance to the regional economy.

“Through Connected, we will partner with local schools and community organizations to bring river education to all ages,” said Dr. Melinda Simmons, assistant professor of marine science at Jacksonville University. Simmons will lead local outreach and education efforts throughout Northeast Florida. “Connected is far more than just a series of lectures. It is an open invitation to explore and engage with our beautiful St. Johns River with the goal of inspiring all members of our community to value and protect it.”

To kick off the Connected initiative and establish a baseline for measuring success, Jacksonville University’s public opinion research and polling expert, Dr. Raymond Oldakowski, conducted a survey to assess current community awareness and opinion of the St. Johns River. Of nearly 470 randomly-selected individuals who were surveyed, nearly 80 percent placed a high value of importance on the river as an asset to Jacksonville. More than 99 percent of those surveyed said it is “somewhat” or “very” important for people in Jacksonville to learn about the river, while one in four respondents said they are “not at all knowledgeable” about what they can do to protect the health of the river.

Other important findings from the survey include:

The health of the river was ranked as the issue of highest importance to survey participants, exceeding the river’s perceived value as a source for jobs, recreation and a visual amenity. Approximately 87 percent of those surveyed ranked the health of the river as “very important” to the city.

While a majority of respondents view government agencies as most responsible for protecting the river (57 percent), they also gave significant and equal weight to the role of the business community (46 percent) and individuals (46 percent) in protecting the health of the river as well.

The majority (52 percent) described the health of the river as “good” but in need of improvements in some areas, while 39 percent believe the river is in need of “major cleanup”.

“There are extremely encouraging takeaways from this survey: most people in Jacksonville place a high value on the importance of the river to our community and our economy, and many of us believe in a shared responsibility to protect it,” said Dr. Simmons. “We know nearly one in four people simply don’t know enough about what they can do as individuals to improve the health of the river, and with our partners at JAXPORT, we have an opportunity to educate them.”

A healthy river drives a healthy economy as well. Cargo activity through JAXPORT, one of the most vital seaports on the east coast, sustains 138,500 Florida jobs with an average salary of $70,000, well above the state average. JAXPORT also plays a significant national security role as one of the country’s 17 Strategic Seaports authorized to move military cargo for national defense, foreign humanitarian aid and disaster relief. It is the only port in Florida with this designation, which requires 24/7 on-call status for emergency response.

About Jacksonville University

Our only "cost" is our request that if you are using these images: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, Google Orkut etc or (2) other websites, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us. Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.

In summary please remember - all we ask is for you to link back to our Flickr set or Flickr pages. We are not posting photographs to Flickr for commercial reasons. I ran the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set!

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

If you want to contribute something for these images?

We do not charge for these images. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the image(s) you request are good enough that you would ordinarily pay for their purchase we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible.

San Francisco Municipal Railway (1950s)

Built 1948 • Operational • Tribute livery

A lot of San Francisco residents and visitors alike are understandably confused by the rainbow of paint schemes on Muni’s vintage streetcars. Which streetcars are “original” and which are “tributes” to a city different from that streetcar’s actual origin? Car No. 1050 is especially confusing.

This streetcar was built in 1948 as Philadelphia Transportation Company No. 2119. In fact, all of the “1050 class” (Nos. 1050-1063) were originally Philadelphia streetcars. They were purchased by Muni, fully restored, and made wheelchair accessible, to create the original F-Market streetcar fleet. (In 2004, an additional 11 PCCs were purchased from Newark, New Jersey to expand the fleet to meet rider demand.)

It was quite common for PCC streetcars to change hands when the original owner abandoned lines. When that happened, the new owner would paint the streetcar in its own livery. And in San Francisco, many wanted to paint all the restored F-line streetcars identically, in a single Muni livery, either historic or contemporary.

But others advocated a variety of paint schemes, representing some of the 33 North American cities that once ran this great streetcar. That view prevailed, but it was felt the first two cars in the class should bear Muni liveries, so that’s how Nos. 1050 and 1051 were painted.

All now agree this was the right decision. The riot of colors the streetcars add to their route clearly increases their attractiveness to riders, even if many of them still think the streetcar they’re on really ran in the city its painted to honor. (Some do. If you don’t see “Tribute Livery” at the top of the page, that car actually ran in that city.)

So, although No. 1050 wasn’t originally a Muni car, it certainly has been one since the F-line opened and as such has every right to wear the famous green and cream “Wings” livery of the 1950s. But now that three original Muni streetcars have renovated to wear the Wings livery they were delivered to San Francisco in (Nos. 1006, 1008, and 1040), it is expected that No. 1050 will be switched to a different livery when it requires repainting.

North American cities that once ran PCCs, but are not yet represented in Muni’s tribute fleet, include: Pittsburgh; St. Louis; Shaker Heights, Ohio; Johnstown, Pennsylvania; Vancouver, British Columbia; Montreal; and Tampico, Mexico. So in the future, No. 1050 may have an entirely different look. Stay tuned!

From the base of Chinese strokes, from shallow to deep, from easy to difficult, interesting teaching, to help students sum up the composition of Chinese characters, understanding parts and radical, and find their commonalities and differences.

Chinese characters play an important role in Chinese culture. Learning Chinese characters can help students better understand Chinese and speed up their learning of Chinese so that they can read Chinese newspapers and magazines. In addition, Chinese calligraphy art is an important derivation of Chinese characters, and mastering Chinese characters can open the door to understanding Chinese calligraphy. Whats more, if you want to pass the HSK test and go to a Chinese University, Chinese must be mastered.

Learn to Read and Write Mandarin Chinese

1. Learn Pinyin. Pinyin is a kind of Chinese writing system. The letters of Pinyin originate from the Rome alphabet, not the Chinese characters. Pinyin is very useful for Chinese learners, even if you haven't learned traditional Chinese characters, you can learn to read and write mandarin with Pinyin. There are many Chinese textbooks with Pinyin, as well as learning materials. Although Pinyin is derived from the Rome alphabet, English native speakers cannot get hang of its pronunciation immediately. Therefore, it is very important to have a correct pronunciation guidance when learning Pinyin.

2. Learn to read Chinese characters. Although recognizing Chinese characters is not a necessity for learning Chinese, many people are attracted by Chinese characters because Chinese characters will make them feel closer to traditional Chinese culture. However, in fact, it is not easy to recognize Chinese characters. In order to understand the contents of the Chinese newspapers, an ordinary Chinese reader needs to familiarise himself with about 2000 Chinese characters - and this is just the beginning. It is said that there are more than 50000 Chinese characters (though some of them are no longer used). The greatest advantage of recognizing Chinese characters is that you can learn more about other cultures, including Cantonese, Japanese and Korean. These languages, though different from Chinese in pronunciation, use Chinese characters (or simplified versions of Chinese characters) in writing.

3. Learn to write Chinese characters. Once you learn to read Chinese characters, you may be interested in the writing of Chinese characters. Learning chinese writing is a complex skill. It requires patience and a little sense of art. The first step in learning Chinese characters writing is to learn the "basic unit", that is, the independent radicals, which form the basis of Chinese characters. There are 214 radicals in Chinese, some radicals are single words, others are just part of complex Chinese characters. When writing Chinese characters, the stroke order is very important. You must follow certain rules - for example, from top to bottom, from left to right, first horizontal and then vertical. If the stroke is not correct, then the word you write is wrong.

4. Read Chinese. If you want to improve the level of Chinese reading, you need to read at least 15-20 minutes a day. First of all, you can read some children's books (basically with Pinyin) to improve your reading level, and of course, you can also find some good materials on the Internet to read. You can also use the Chinese you learned in your daily life. You can try to read the Chinese tags on food, or ask a waiter at a restaurant for a Chinese menu. Once you have improved your reading level, you can get some Chinese newspapers (Chinese version) and try your best to read the articles. This is also a good way to help you understand Chinese culture and current affairs in China.

5. Learn to write Mandarin Chinese every day. In order to improve your Chinese writing level, you can write something in Chinese every day, no matter in Pinyin or in Chinese character. One way is to write a Chinese diary every day, write something about the weather, write what you feel or what you have done every day. If you are brave enough, find some friends who speak Chinese to help you check if there are any mistakes. Or you can also find a Chinese pen pal to write to each other. This is a win-win way, you can improve your Chinese level, and your pen pal can improve his or her English level. You can also ask your pen pal to help you modify your letter and send it back to you in reply. The last way to practice Chinese writing ability is to make a Chinese list, such as shopping lists, or Chinese tags for the household objects.

I understand how important our bodies are to us ;) so I wanted to show Poppet on a licca body as well for those who prefer a licca over pure neemo. Poppet fits on her chair with this body better than I thought she would and I have made a special seat pillow to allow her to be as comfy as possible while lounging in her garden... or anywhere else for that matter. She will go to her new home with the body of choice. :)

Global trade has been disappointing following the 2007-2009 financial crisis. Beginning in the mid-1980s, the world economy entered a phase of rapid globalization, during which global trade consistently outpaced global GDP growth due to technological advances and policies that embraced economic integration. Trade collapsed during the financial crisis and the propensity to trade has stopped rising. This flattening has implications for the U.S. and the world, and policymakers need to understand the reasons for the slowdown and prospects for the future.

The Scholl Chair in International Business at CSIS will be releasing a new electronic report on the global trade slowdown on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. Please join us at the rollout event, where we will hear remarks from BHP Billiton CEO Andrew Mackenzie and discuss the report with USTR Policy Planning Director Ed Gresser.

I spent most of Saturday as a volunteer photographer for the Girl Scouts of Northern California at their 'Discoveree' event. 'Discoveree' is an annual training event where Girl Scout leaders learn a multitude of skills to help them in their role from volunteer workshop leaders.

This collage captures images from just a few of the craft activities that made a small part of today's event. I can't share any photos where the participants can be identified.

A Chinese proverb was printed on a card on one of the desks in a classroom at the school that was used for the event. It seemed too appropriate to not include!

The proverb says:

"Tell me and I forget.

Show me and I remember.

Have me do it and I understand."

UNDERSTANDING HEALTH’S BOTTOM LINE—AND IMPROVING IT

It’s relatively easy to determine whether companies are profitable or not. They pull in more revenue than they spend. But finding the bottom line for human health is far more challenging. What makes us healthy? How do we know when we are healthy? What are the line items that we should be examining and improving if necessary? This isn’t just a personal puzzle to solve, but one for the entire business community to understand. We talk a lot about the business of health, but it may be the only business where we have little clue about what the bottom line is.

We all went to the zoo today and it was great fun. I understand Lowry Zoo in Tampa is the USA's No. 1 zoo for children and I can certainly say that Lewis thoroughly enjoyed himself - and so did the adults.

Walking around we found many grasshoppers just sitting and jumping around on the plant life - not caged - just out in the open as these guys were as good as what was behind the cages!!

For those of my Friends who dont understand the description of my title in Urdu ..it simply means succinctly that when Ramzan comes it brings hope in the hearts of Beggars .. and here in Mumbai a Muslim beggar is a Muslim beggar , we certainly dont ask them are you Shia or are you Sunni.. this is the beauty of culture etiquette in Indian Islam which we call Adab Tehzeeb.

..Islam is certainly not the same from one continent to the other ..

I will explain that later , and it has nothing to do with my being a Shia I am proud to be an Indian and I am humble as a Shia the Shia was born with Humility inherited from Hussain and Pride was the only essence that crushed Yazid ,, we remember him always but only as accursed , when hear of Shia s killed during Ramazan.

And you cant blame Saudi Arabia for getting ivolved with the Yemen conflict , they had to enter the arena simply to use their American bought weapons that would be obsolete , and honestly , Saudi dont have the balls to fight Israel,, so this was the best opportunity to kill Shias .. and this is the Imperialistic Hegemony backed by America or any other world power I am not into politics and this is not a political blog this is just my assumption..the ISIS monster was created by the Saudis and one day soon it will land in their backyard too.. having used most of the weapons in Yemen.. they will have nothing to fight the ISIS .. and than America will send them ground troops and help the Salafis ,,.

I am ashamed of being called a Muslim , simply because the Muslims today are not the Muslims of yore ,, Imagine killing persecuting Shias and other minorities foreigners in the Holy Month Of Ramzan .. Yes Muslims love killing Muslims during Ramzan like gluttons , bloodthirsty animals ,,I call myself an Indian and India is my Karma and my Dharma ,,

I identify with the Shias only through Hussain..and my Shiasm is my personal prerogative ,we may be Shias but than if you are from Pakistan our mindset will certainly not be the same at all.. my roots my branches and fruits are all purely Indian..Even my Karbala is Indian.. so this is what I wanted to say ,, we condemn oppressors , we condemn Terrorism , Oppression , but those who strongly support Salafi Islam are happy seeing us killed murdered ,,this is the way of the World and everyday is Karbala it still bleeds in every Shias heart .. and he celebrates Ashura each time you plant a bomb in his Mosque and bleed the pages of the Holy Koran..

A poem would be too frivolous way of remembering an act of dastardly cowardice ,,

Two birds on a wire

One tries to fly away

And the other watches him close from that wire

He says he wants to as well

But he is a liar

I'll believe it all

There's nothing I won't understand

I'll believe it all

I won't let go of your hand

Two birds on a wire

One says c'mon and the other says "I'm tired"

The sky is overcast and I'm sorry

One more or one less

Nobody's worried

I'll believe it all

There's nothing I won't understand

I'll believe it all

I won't let go of your hand

Two birds of a feather

Say that they're always gonna stay together

But one's never going to let go of that wire

He says that he will

But he's just a liar

Two birds on a wire

One tries to fly away and the other

Watches him close from that wire

He says he wants to as well, but he is a liar

Part of the 2010 Solstice Festival in Anchorage included a roller-derby match between two local teams. The match took place in Town Square - a strange venue for such an event since it's small, uneven, and made of concrete but I guess the girls didn't mind too much. It was fun to watch - there were some very interesting characters on rollerskates and also in the crowd. Just as I was starting to understand the rules that rain started and the refs called the match off at halftime - what a bummer!

None of the pictures I have taken convey the absolute magnificence of Grotte de Frasassi - a highly recommended place you simply must experience to understand.
