Since the early 1500s Henry VIII, all 6 of his wives and successive Kings and Queens have travelled through this gateway under the same moon and sky. King George II was the last monarch to live at this palace, he stayed until 1737.

Under the pines, on a summer's day,

I have tried to get this under the pier shot every time I go to Va Beach. I have many attempts on my computer but I was never completely satisfied with the outcome. But I am closer to my goal with this shot.

Guess it's not necessarily under the boardwalk, but more like beneath the fishing pier. Pictured here is a shot of an Outer Banks sunrise, as seen from under Jennette's Pier. The image was captured shortly after the sun was lifting off the horizon.
Jennette's Pier is one of the more famous and popular fishing piers found along the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and has been around in one form or another since 1939.
The original pier took a significant beating by Hurricane Isabel back in 2003, and was rebuilt into the 1000 ft. hurricane resistant structure seen here -- employing concrete pylons (instead of wooden ones) to help weather extreme storms.
Many piers along the NC coast have been damaged over the years, and had to either be repaired to resist hurricanes or demolished altogether. The North Carolina Aquarium estimates that out of the 36 North Carolina piers in operation in 1980, only 20 still remain open today. *
