It's definitely seen its fair share of use, as it has some scratches, but by the time I'm finished with it, it's bound to have a whole lot more. I haven't done any research as to its era, but it's genuine Pyrex and that's good enough for this kid!

Thank you for the many years of loyal companionship and unconditional love. And for making me laugh with that silly streak of yours. And for being there to give me hugs when nobody else was. Thank you for keeping all the secrets I told you over the years and for loving me anyway when I was far less than perfect. Thank you for the kisses you gave me whenever my heart was broken and sore. Thank you for being SO happy to see me every single time I came home, Thank you for having made my life and my heart so much richer and fuller. I only hope I gave you half as much as you gave me in all of our years together. Today you crossed the Rainbow Bridge and I don't know if I will survive your passing.

*news: I'm starting a benefit photography project, called "unconditional love" of people portraited with their dogs (& cats). I'll make a photoblog, an expo and maybe something printed, to help a dog pound close to Turin.

If you would like to be portraited, you're welcome. Feel free to contact me. Thanks all!

Grazie a tutti.

Room VII. Galileo's New World > Science of equilibrium

Museo Galileo

Florence, Tuscany, Italy

From his earliest writings, Galileo expressed unconditional admiration for Archimedes, whose works he saw as a model of scientific rigor. Galileo systematically endeavored to apply the geometrical methods of Archimedes to questions of physics. This approach characterizes Galileo's fundamental contributions to the science of mechanics, a field in which his contributions significantly furthered the understanding of basic concepts such as momentum, specific gravity, floating, and condensation and rarefaction. Galileo also used strictly geometric principles to lay the foundations of the new science of the resistance of materials.

San Diego, California. A sculpture based on a photograph by Alfred Eisenstaedt that portrays a U.S. Navy sailor grabbing and kissing a stranger—a woman in a white dress—on Victory over Japan Day ("V-J Day") in New York City's Times Square on August 14, 1945.

The Photograph

A view of San Diego's Unconditional Surrender statue, more commonly known as the Kissing statue.

This 25 foot tall statue gives 3-D form and colour to the famous photograph of a sailor kissing a nurse in chaotic Times Square as they celebrated the victory of the United States over Japan at the end of WW2.

Controversy has raged since 1945 as to whether the kiss was spontaneous and genuine, or staged for the camera.

On the right of the photograph is the prow of USS Midway, an aircraft carrier of the United States Navy. She was the largest ship in the world until 1955.

The USS Midway saw action in the Vietnam War, and served as the Persian Gulf flagship in Operation Desert Storm in 1991.

She is now a museum ship, and is permanently moored in San Diego.

My Daughter means the world to me!

So much out there for her to see!

I'd like to take her in my arms,

and show her the world and all it's charms.

As she grows a little day by day,

God lights the path, to guide her on her way.

As she blooms out like a precious flower,

She will always know God's wonderful power

View On Black

All Saints, Postwick, Norwich

I believe they call it an Indian Summer, those warm days you often get towards the end of October, and 2016 had a more substantial Indian Summer than most years, although that may well be to do with global warming, I don't know. Postwick, pronounced Pozz-ick, gives its name to one of the Norwich Park & Rides, but the village is away from all that, set in narrow, winding lanes in the gentle hills above the river.

I'd been here before, ten years previously. The keyholders were out then, though they were in today. Back in 2006 it had been on one of those awful grey February days, when the cold and the damp penetrate your clothes, your skin, every aching muscle and most probably your soul. And we were not full of confidence. Postwick is quite literally the thin end of the wedge, the most westerly of a small group of churches that fan out from Norwich towards the coast that are infamous in church exploring circles for being kept locked.

In practice, only a very small number of Norfolk churches are locked during the day, and a fraction of those are locked without a keyholder. The statistics are skewed by this group north of the Yare, south of the railway line. But at least Postwick has a keyholder notice, and in fact the church is now open every Friday.

The great yew tree to the south of the chancel had been felled since my last visit, and part of it lies still in the churchyard, like a surreal giant's pencil. Beyond it, a church that was substantially entirely rebuilt over the course of about fifty years from the late 13th to the early 14th Centuries, and then substantially restored in the late 19th Century, giving it something of an overly crisp appearance.

You step into an interior which is tall, narrow, and almost entirely refurbished by the Victorians. There's not much that's old here - a piscina and sedilia, a late Medieval font looking entirely recut. Like most narrow churches, there is a feeling of clutter. Perhaps the best and most interesting feature of all is a stone relief of St Francis of 1968 by John Skelton, looking very much in the style of his uncle and tutor Eric Gill. The stained glass is decent, a collection by different workshops dating from the 1860s up to one of the turn of the 20th Century which looks as if it might be the work of FC Eden.

Not much excitement then, but there is that atmosphere of a country church that has stayed pretty much the same for over a hundred years, and is worth seeing for that if nothing else. Of course, if that's not enough for you, you might be tempted by a sight of the pulpit, which is set with stones that Mortlock tells us were pilfered from the Holy Land by a 19th century rector. Just make sure you come on a Friday.

This sculpture of the iconic Life Magazine photo by Alfred Eisenstaedt is amazing! Black and White HAD to be done! Especially as one of my dear contacts reminded me, today June 6, 2009 is the 65th anniversary of D-Day!

The Greatest Generation kept us in motion in our industrial revolution. The people of our young country less than one hundred years after our own Civil War reached out to the world, and served. Our global reputation in the in recent years was so awful. The world seemed to have forgotten all of the times The United States stepped up. I hope the tides are turning because this country is made up of mostly good eggs. I guess sometimes the bad eggs just stink so much or are so LOUD, it’s difficult to focus on the good ones! Okay, enough about eggs! Thank you so much to all who have served and serve today!

I took this on the way back from Save Our Seabirds at the stoplight. I think the car in the back gives it a bit of scale, but again, 25 feet is pretty HUGE! Hugs and Kisses, and thanks for viewing!
