This 25 foot statue stands on the corner of 13 mile and Woodward in Royal Oak Michigan. It represents the famous kiss at the end of WWII in New York’s time square.
On June 20,2016 the statue was erected here in Royal Oak, Michigan after traveling from New Jersey. It will remain on display for 6 months to raise awareness and inspire donations for the WWII Legacy Memorial planned for the RO memorial park. This statue is one of four statues and the only one that moves around the country. The other three statues are permanently displayed, one in Sarasota, one in San Diego and one in Normandy, France.
Here is the statue resting on a flat bed on Woodward Avenue as workers prep the stand it will eventually be standing on.
She told me today that I am the best mommy in the whole world, in all of the countries...better than any other mommy there is. :)

"Unconditional Surrender", a 25-foot statue at Sarasota's bayfront.
Artist Seward Johnson created the piece to mimic the famous photograph of a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square after the surrender of the Japanese in World War II.

I took this photo in San Diego in 2008 with my trusty Digital Rebel. I ran the image through a couple apps on my iPad giving it a rainy, painterly look.
Artist Seward Johnson created the sculpture based on the historic Alfred Eisenstaedt photo called "Times Square Kiss" taken in Times Square during the celebration of VJ Day in World War II.
Today the 25 ft. sculpture is on permanent display between the USS Midway and the Fish Market.
Artist Johnson is believed to be recreating this sculpture in bronze.

From photographs I had previously seen of this statue I thought it was life-sized. But when I saw it in person it was quite a bit larger! I barely come up to the sailor's knee.

‘Unconditional Surrender’
This statue is a series of sculptures by Seward Johnson resembling a photograph by Alfred Eisenstaedt, V–J day in Times Square, but said by Johnson to be based on a similar, less well known, photograph by Victor Jorgensen.
Grounds For Sculpture
Nestled in the heart of central New Jersey lies Grounds For Sculpture, a magical place where art and nature are always at play. At its core are more than 270 sculptures by renowned and emerging contemporary artists, each thoughtfully positioned on meticulously landscaped parkland full of thousands of exotic trees and flowers. It is a feast for the senses.
The works, many of them monumental, include those of such distinguished artists as Clement Meadmore, Anthony Caro, Beverly Pepper, Kiki Smith, George Segal, Magdalena Abakanowicz, and Isaac Witkin. They join the enchanting works of our visionary founder Seward Johnson as well as many others by the finest up and coming artists of our time.
My daughter is my heart, my everything. She drives me mad with her temper, she keeps me sleepless at night, she exhausts me at times. Still, she is my everything and my unconditional love. Her temper, willpower and persistence that challenges me - and makes me feel 10 years older - are among the qualities I value most in her. I want her to grow up to be to a strong, kind, confident and humble woman and above all I want her to be happy.
This song, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOj2owkg7S0 by Björn Skifs, is a swedish cover of a song by Andre de Lang. I haven't heard the original but I find this version absolutely adorable. I think the text is re-written and one of the verses goes kind of like this:

The song is often played at funerals I understand, but also at weddings. To me the lyrics and music are vibrant of love. This is for my daughter.
