I was hoping that a warm and sunny day might bring out the Brown Hairstreaks which are already out further south, but no such luck. I had heard 2nd brood Wood Whites had been present from a blog on the site web page, so hoped I might see some as a secondary target and was pleased to see 2-3 around. Very elusive though and reluctant to settle, still less in an uncluttered or accessible location.
Thanks for viewing and thank you for your faves and comments.
in Canyonlands, Utah -- red rock country. Trees have been a visual preoccupation since childhood. The first painting I ever did, at 8, was of a magnificent old oak. Maybe I'm returning to age 8. Actually no, because many decades later I know this image and place are about much more -- an eons-old environment that many of us rarely or never see -- uncluttered by our civilization. We will be gone before this tree dies. Says a lot about understanding life.
The Modernist-styled New Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow - arguably the finest 20th century Russian art museum in the city.
No art on display in this shot, but I was taken with the uncluttered view and way the reflection played on the polished stone floor.

It is unusual to get at perfect pose from a male Cardinal. This one found a nice uncluttered perch for a photo.
It's Fence Friday, folks, so that's why you're seeing this White-breasted Nuthatch perched on a rustic fence rail. There's a sidewalk behind the fence, which accounts for the clean, uncluttered look.

The Wood Storks seem to be moving in everywhere.
See the comments for a portrait shot.
From the Florida Wildlife Commission:
Wood storks are about 35-45 inches in length with a wing span of about 60-65 inches. The plumage is white except for iridescent (you can see that in the photo above) or glimmering black feathers along the entire wing and tail. The head and upper neck of adult storks do not have feathers, but are covered with a rough, scaly skin that is gray-colored. The legs and bill are a black tone but the toes have a pink hue. Unlike herons, storks fly and soar with the neck and legs extended.
Whereas nestling storks utter a variety of calls and sounds, adult storks are nearly voiceless and make only hissing sounds. However, the stork will produce a loud sound by snapping their bills during courtship or aggressive behaviors.
Wood storks are highly social in their nesting habits, often nesting in large colonies of 100-500 nests. (Note – the most I’ve seen in one place is at Harris Neck NWR in Georgia) Historically, there were reports of stork colonies estimated to be as large as 1,200-5,000 nests in the Big Cypress and Everglades of south Florida. Wood storks feed mostly on fish, in water between 2-15 inches in depth, where the water is calm and uncluttered by aquatic vegetation.
Storks have a very specialized tactile foraging behavior whereby they move their partially-opened bill through the water in a side-to-side motion, often using their feet to rake or scare up aquatic prey. Once the bill detects a fish, the bill is snapped shut in one of the quickest reflex reactions among animals. Locating prey using tactile location allows storks to forage in muddy water but requires a relatively high prey density to be effective. Thus, storks tend to forage in wetlands that have long annual wet periods followed by drying conditions to concentrate prey during the spring and early summer months for successful breeding seasons.
Historically, wood storks were a common species throughout the southeastern United States. However, precipitous declines in stork range and populations occurred during the first half of the 1900s because of the stork's specialized foraging attribute and the loss of wetlands used for foraging, especially in south Florida. Ultimately, the United States population was listed as endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1984 and by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) in 1988. While the number of stork nests and colonies in Georgia and South Carolina appeared to increase during the 1980s and 1990s, storks still experience continued nesting related problems in Florida, especially south Florida. Recently, storks have established a colony in North Carolina.
The success of wood stork fledging, or the process in which a bird grows to be independent of its parents, often is variable among different years and colonies suggesting food resources are the likely factor in differences in nestling survivorship and fledging rates. Based on statewide surveys conducted by FWC personnel, stork colonies increased from 32 colonies during 1976-78 to 52 colonies during 1986-87, but decreased to 34 colonies in 1999. The most recent survey indicated about 7,216 nesting pairs in Florida during 2005.

WINTER CAPTURE IN JUNE !!!!!
--------------------------------------------
MY SECRET IS OUT, I have a dead tree I use a lot, simply because, you get better and easier bird images, without leaves . Hope this answers the questions some-times asked about some of my images. This female blackbird posed nicely for me, uncluttered, but does look like a winter capture. The male bird has uniformly blackish plumage.

This Song Sparrow must be happy to find spring had finally sprung. He was sitting still and singing beautifully on a good perch in the open without paying any notice to me.
I like the morning light showing on him. In the background, a spruce tree branch in the distance provided an uncluttered, nicely blurred backdrop, making the overall image scheme quite pleasing.

September 3pm hour. A mesmerizing treasure trove of golden sunshine sparkles appeared in the water as I was walking around Ventura Harbor. Then in the fresh ocean breeze, along came a stand-up paddleboarder, unencumbered and uncluttered. After swirling through the sparkles like a lightweight nomad, he turns and looks back. I wonder if he saw the same thing I did. Anyway, it looks like he was freely enjoying the afternoon and I hope he goes home happy.
To be here was such a treat. I wanted a picture with boats for my 'Hours' picture because I was born in September in the 3pm hour on what is now 'International Talk Like A Pirate Day', so it worked out well. Arrr, Matey!
September is so lovely and it will transition into Fall before we know it. As Summer fades, it leaves its door open just a little...

One of the hardest birds to photograph in my opinion and this afternoon I spent a couple of hours trying to get a decent uncluttered shot and was rewarded when this Male landed close by and started to sing his scratchy song!

A nice morning surprise - usually Bushtits are a real challenge to capture with an uncluttered background. They are flitty and tend to keep to brushy areas. I was very lucky when this male popped up and posed for a few seconds with a feather in his beak.

Time for some automotive artwork again. As I spend more time photographing car shows, I've become much more selective in what I choose to create.
I spend time looking for unique and those cars that I've not seen before.
Then I spend time looking for good angles, uncluttered backgrounds and the architectural-like details that can be found in so many of the classics.
A scene I think I have tried numerous times over the years and never liked it. Given the flood waters seem to work the other morning. Possibly better with an uncluttered clear sky.

The last in my Texas/Arizona bird set for now.
Five years ago, during a trip to the Tucson, AZ area, we visited a local park and found a very cooperative Vermillion Flycatcher. This year, we returned hoping to find another of these brilliant red passerines. This one tormented me for a couple of hours, refusing to perch on a low branch or in an uncluttered spot. Finally, it gave me a brief moment in a decent spot.
A group of people enjoying a hot air balloon ride from a perspective below the basket. The image highlights the experience of aerial travel and the human element of adventure and sightseeing.
The primary subject is a hot air balloon basket filled with passengers. The people are casually dressed and appear to be tourists or adventurers, with several individuals waving or using their phones to take photos. The wicker basket, a traditional element of hot air balloons, is a prominent feature.
The photo is taken from a low angle, looking up at the balloon. This perspective emphasizes the scale and height of the balloon, making the passengers and basket appear to be suspended high in the sky. The balloon's dark fabric and the basket's texture stand out against the clear blue background.
The lighting is bright and natural in a clear day ideal for flying. The overall mood is one of excitement and joy, captured by the passengers' expressions and gestures. The image evokes a sense of freedom and the unique experience of viewing the world from above.
The image is sharp, with good focus on the basket and its occupants, while the sky provides a simple, uncluttered background that makes the subject stand out. The clarity of the image is consistent with modern photography techniques that allow for clear shots from a distance.
Taken from Luxor west bank.
Since I purchased a small desk to place in the bathroom which I will be using as a sound studio to record my novellas as audiobooks, Pearl has enjoyed perching there from time to time, as it is presently uncluttered with a laptop or any equipment while I am rehearsing the book in the living room.

The wood stork is a large, long-legged wading bird that is a member of the stork family (Ciconiidae). It is distantly related to herons, egrets, and ibises (Order: Ciconiiformes). However, recent genetic studies suggest storks are more closely related to the new world vultures (Family: Carthartidae). The wood stork is our only native stork that occurs in the United States. Wood storks also are found in Central America and South America.
Wood storks are highly social in their nesting habits, often nesting in large colonies of 100-500 nests. Historically, there were reports of stork colonies estimated to be as large as 1,200-5,000 nests in the Big Cypress and Everglades of south Florida. I found this one at Lake Marian in Osceola County, Florida.
Back to the town of Gibsons and the marina below the overpass. I was looking for something to express simplicity, one that evokes a notion of straightforwardness. The area is strewn with vessels of various sizes, types, and purpose, so that meant finding a scene that could separate distractions.
This shot serves to illustrate the fixation we can have on the moment. That feeling of an uncluttered view as represented by a scene devoid of what is unnecessary. Photographycoach.ca

I came across this scene while driving home on Hwy 84. The area is quite populated but out of the corner of my eye I saw this tree and the rocky hill in the back. That little mountain is actually visible from afar in both directions, but it is very difficult to get a good shot of it because of the cluttered foregrounds of houses, roads, trees and power lines. But a small gap in the tree and brush lined road opened up an uncluttered view of the field, the tree and mountain.
I think this scene would be a good subject for a four season study.

A loud, rattling, bugle call from the south signaled the approach of this Sandhill Crane to the marsh area at Sandy Ridge Reservation. I checked to make sure my shutter speed was up as he circled back for his landing. He came in fast and low and started his final glide almost directly in front of me. The early morning light, along with the uncluttered background of water and distant foliage, made him stand out nicely for this shot. I don't think I'd be "sticking my neck out" to say this is my favorite shot from that morning
