A combination of light pollution from flaring gas wells, blinking wind towers, Cheyenne and a growing lightning storm conspired to give this scene a decidedly Mordor vibe. You can see a Perseid meteor right of the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) and a possible Iridium flare directly below it. This was taken after the peak of last year's Persied event.
Image Notes: This image is a composite of multiple frames taken over roughly 45 minutes from the same location. Three separate shots captured the lightning, two for the meteor and flare, one for sky and one for lighter foreground. Most of the warmer points of light on the horizon are gas being flared off oil wells that don't have the infrastructure to utilize the gas. The red lights are wind towers and of course the glowing clouds are from lightning.
Utilizing some new items I got from CB and a trade. I'm pretty satisfied with the combos here. The AK is modded to have a TT sight on it. Enjoy!

Griffon vultures have been used as model organisms for the study of soaring and thermoregulation. The energy costs of level flight tend to be high, prompting alternatives to flapping in larger birds. Vultures in particular utilize more efficient flying methods such as soaring. Compared to other birds, which elevate their metabolic rate to upwards of 16 times their basal metabolic rate in flight, soaring griffon vultures expend about 1.43 times their basal metabolic rate in flight. Griffon vultures are also efficient flyers in their ability to return to a resting heart rate after flight within ten minutes.
As large scavengers, griffon vultures have not been observed to seek shelter for thermoregulation. Vultures use their bald heads as a means to thermoregulate in both extreme cold and hot temperatures. Changes in posture can increase bare skin exposure from 7% to 32%. This change allows for the more than doubling of convective heat loss in still air. Griffon vultures have also been found to tolerate increased body temperatures as a response to high ambient temperatures. By allowing their internal body temperature to change independently of their metabolic rate, griffon vultures minimize their loss of water and energy in thermoregulating. One study in particular (Bahat 1995) found that these adaptations have allowed the Griffon vulture to have one of the widest thermal neutral zones of any bird.
It declined markedly throughout the 19th–20th centuries in much of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, mainly due to direct persecution and "bycatch" from the poisoned carcasses set for livestock predators (Snow and Perrins 1998, Ferguson-Lees and Christie 2001, Orta et al. 2015). In some areas a reduction in available food supplies, arising from changes in livestock management practices, also had an impact (Ferguson-Lees and Christie 2001, Orta et al. 2015). It is very highly vulnerable to the effects of potential wind energy development (Strix 2012) and electrocution has been identified as a threat (Global Raptors Information Network 2015). Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) used for veterinary purposes pose a threat to this species. One case of suspected poisoning caused by flunixin, an NSAID, was recorded in this species in 2012 in Spain (Zorrilla et al. 2015). Diclofenac, a similar NSAID, has caused severe declines in Gyps vulture species across Asia.

A CERA local utilizing a TP&W GP15-1 navigates the Norfolk Southern Redkey Secondary past CP 79 in Marion, IN. The train is splitting a pair of Pennsylvania Position Light Signals, featuring an original pedestal style signal on the right. These types of signals are extremely rare, and date back as early as the 1930’s. I was very fortunate to shoot a train by it, as it only sees 1 a day by it or less.

For someone who utilizes color as a substantial part of their composition, shooting black & white is the equivalent of trying to learn to play a classical acoustic once you’ve already spent your teens banging away some heavily-distorted metal.
At some point, if you desire to be a well-rounded musician, you need to learn how to turn the volume down.
And so begins my severely neglected education into monochrome; as favorable as I am to framing my subject in thick shadows, you’d think I’d be more adept to the style… I’m not.
The Union Pacific still utilizes older power on their local out of Worthington, Minnesota, and I've been meaning to spend more time along the C&NW's old Omaha Road in northwest Iowa. With clouds hanging around in the morning and virtually no traffic moving on the railroad through most of the day, I thought this trip might be a bust. I had driven all the way to Le Mars without seeing a thing except a tamper and some hi-rail vehicles. After hanging around downtown Le Mars for a while, I begrudgingly made my way back north, the huckleberry ice cream from the Blue Bunny ice cream parlor providing some small consolation. Some afternoon rain showers dotted the area as I made my way back toward Minnesota. Finally, as I arrived back in Worthington almost 7 hours after I had been there in the morning, the southbound local I had been wanting to see was finally ready to depart. All was not lost! The clouds parted, the train moved, and I got what I came for. Here, the nice looking UP power is seen just north of the border town of Bigelow, MN as they head toward the ethanol plant near Sheldon, IA with empty tank cars.

The Speicherstadt, or City of Warehouses, is the world's largest warehouse district standing on oak pylon foundations. Built in 1883, today it has received UNESCO world heritage status and is amazing to walk around. Still utilized as warehouse space in some instances, others have been converted into museums (including Miniatur Wunderland - the world's largest model railroad system), world class dining and local shops.

"Cleaner Air for our Future: The MAN City Bus enters the Philippine Domestic Market"
Ever since bus transport existed in the Philippines, it has always been a trend to utilize a medium-duty truck chassis for use as a bus. It is a popular option due to their availability and sturdiness. Due to the front-mounted engines, it has always been a common practice for the deck to be raised up to accommodate the height of the engine and drivetrain running from the engine up front to the rear axles. The end result is a deck height resembling that of long-distance coaches. Even upon the arrival of completely-built units from outside the country, city bus operators still opt for models with high deck heights. Due to their high deck nature, access in city buses for the elderly and disabled is quite limited.
However, MAN is set to change this trend with the introduction of their A84 18.280 city bus chassis, the most notable feature of which is the low-floor layout which gives easy access for passengers getting on or off-board the vehicle. Mounted at the back is a Euro 4 compliant 6.9 Liter D0836LOH40 Turbo-Intercooled 4-stroke Diesel Straight-6 engine pumping out as much as 280 hp at 2,300 rpm and 1,100 N-m of torque from 1,200 to 1,750 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Voith Sensotop 4-speed or a ZF EcoLife 6-speed automatic transmission which reduces the work load of the driver compared to the conventional Manual transmission. It is equipped with MAN’s Electronically-Controlled Air-Suspension for better ride comfort and it with a kneeling system to improve accessibility.
Disc brakes are standard on all four corners of the vehicle and MAN’s Electronic Braking System 5 or “Brake-by-Wire” enhances precision and shortens the stopping distance compared to that of conventional brakes. An electronic speed limiter also comes as standard further improving safety. Despite the technologies it packs, the MAN A84 is permitted to have a Gross Vehicle Weight of 18.2 tons which is 3 to 4 tons more than the usual city buses.
Such a capable chassis deserves a finely constructed body which is why Almazora Motors assembled the body which are imported from Gemilang Motors for the first prototype, which resembles a MAN Lion’s City.
Interior trim, lights, doors, and majority of all other components were imported from different countries. The doors open as wide as 1.35 meters and makes passenger entry and exit of the vehicle quick and efficient. Integrated to the door is a manually-folding access ramp for wheelchairs and infant strollers. Inside, lightweight polycarbonate seats replace the bulky traditional seats while a safe and comfortable area is allotted for people on wheelchairs.
Expect more of these MAN City Buses to arrive in the country.

After over the years having instituted an autocratic government in Russia in which all freedom of expression is prohibited and its defenders are persecuted, imprisoned or murdered, Putin now turns to Europe trying to impose his hegemonic vision of the world.
Through a hybrid war with cyber attacks and political interference / disinformation campaigns in elections and in the support of parties of the radical right or the extreme right, he has tried to divide Europe and NATO to weaken the West.
Attempt of annexation of Crimea and Putin’s threats to use force against other parts of Ukraine have unfolded a mainstreamed near abroad policy of the Russian Federation named as “Karaganov’s doctrine” by the name of its author Sergey Karaganov. The doctrine is an essential asset to understand Russian ideology, tools in foreign policy against neighbors and what is real soft power of influence.
Following Sergey Karaganov's theories that Russian-speakers, who live in non-Russian territories, can be utilized as an asset in foreign policy.
The implementation of the doctrine can be observed on the Russia’s near abroad policy stretching from Georgia, Moldova to Ukraine and other near abroad states. The signature is quiet the same everywhere: territorial claims, threatening the territorial integrity of neighbors, appealing to the Russian speaking population, support of local separatists, bribing local political, military and business elite and so on.
A premise is quite obvious; the conflicts are artificially created and aggravated by Russian own near abroad policy towards its neighbors by acting as “peacekeeper” of the region.
In addition to his Doctrine, Karaganov has advocated for a united Sino-Russian strategy to unify a Eurasian bloc ; hence also the approximation of positions in recent times between Russia and China.
More than ever, Democracy as we know it is in danger from the advances of Autocracy and the extremisms of the Radical Right and at this moment we are no longer talking only about ideological threats but real threats to the institutions of democracy; like what happened in America on January 6th with the Capitol invasion and the attempt to change the electoral result.
On the other hand this latent conflict between Russia and the West took on other proportions with this recent threat along the Ukrainian border and invasion, and even if a consensus is reached diplomatically, Europe and the World will no longer be the same.
We will have to understand and accept that, after all, the threat is very real and that the all world does not live only on good intentions !

Por outro lado este conflito latente entre a Rússia e o Ocidente tomou outras proporções com esta recente ameaça ao longo da fronteira ucraniana e consequente invasão e mesmo que se chegue a um consenso diplomaticamente, a Europa e o Mundo já não serão os mesmos.
Teremos que entender e aceitar que, afinal, a ameaça é muito real e que o mundo todo não vive apenas de boas intenções!

Sachs Covered Bridge
The bridge was built in 1854 by David Spooner using the Town truss and utilizing one span. The structure is 100 ft. long and 15 ft. wide, and it is only open to foot traffic. The bridge crosses Marsh Creek and is owned by Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Association.
The bridge was known as Sauck's during the Civil War, it was built using oak and pine. The bridge was repaired in 1997 after heavy rains washed the bridge from it's foundation and carried it approx. one hundred yards downstream.
On July 3rd and 4th, 1863 , the bridge was used by a portion of the Confederate army, in retreat out of Gettysburg, but is said to have been used by both armies during the time of the Gettysburg conflict. Robert E. Lee had split his army into 2 sections, with one headed Northwest toward Cashtown, the other crossed Sauck's Bridge and headed Southwest.
The bridge is known to have been the site of a triple hanging at one end, and in close proximity to a crude post battle field hospital, the Sauck's Covered Bridge is a favorite of ghost hunters.
The soaptree yucca derives its name from the soapy material in its roots and trunks which made this plant a popular substitute for soap. Native Americans used the coarse fiber of the leaves for weaving baskets. Cattle enjoy the tender young stalks, and chopped trunks and leaves are still utilized as emergency cattle feed in times of drought.

Primarily utilized as a buoy tender. If you click on the pic to enlarge, you can see a variety of buoys on the dock behind the ship.
With the combination of MinifigCAT, TinyTactical, and CombatBrick weapons/accessories I have made my best attempt to recreate Keegan P. Russ, Logan T. Walker, and their K9 companion Riley from the Call of Duty: Ghosts single-player campaign. That lineup however, was not the plan; a couple of months prior to the launch of the game, Infinity Ward released a trailer for their campaign giving us a better look at our Ghost squad. Following Elias’s statement in the trailer “A man who truly loves his country, doesn’t just give his life, he gives his sons.” it cuts to a shot of one of the Ghosts pulling his mask down making it seem as though we were looking at Hesh, who I later discovered was actually Keegan upon playing the campaign.
For quite some time I thought I had been making Hesh, and the problem didn’t even end there, when I played the mission “Federation Day” I also discovered that Keegan had yet to put his helmet on after putting his mask on. Therefore the mask you saw me preview on the game’s launch day was actually Keegan without his helmet (which I was unaware of at the time). I wasn’t going to do much about it until MinifigCAT released quad goggles, which were exactly what I needed to fix this inaccuracy issue. After obtaining a pair, I painted Keegan a new head, and basically completely altered his head’s appearance. While it does still have the same concept as the original, it was now far more accurate. I still do plan on featuring the Keegan’s original mask in my showcase video, as I am rather fond of it despite it being only half of what it needed to be. Now that I’ve explained that, we have Infinity Ward to thank for making Keegan look like he was Hesh in the trailer…
Keegan’s original mask, and Logan’s current mask were made from modified classic Lego Space helmets that I have had left over from BrickFair Alabama 2012, and were not made from MinifigCAT’s ski mask as most of you were speculating. Logan is the only figure here that utilizes CombatBrick accessories, but also contains various Tiny Tactical accessories along with a modified MinifigCAT belt. I was blown away by Tiny Tactical’s quality, and therefore decided to spoil Keegan with a lot of it, the communication kits and mini tac lights are great, I even used one of these lights for Riley’s ear piece. Keegan is sporting a Tiny Tactical Delta Force Carbine with an added holographic sight. Logan on the other hand is wielding a painted CombatBrick PP-19.
I am very satisfied with Riley’s outcome; he became pretty much exactly what I wanted him to be. I decided that he was more deserving of the second metal coil wire that I had left over because his is more visible than Logan’s (if Logan even has one that is). Riley’s webcam has a small lens painted onto the upper area of the attachment, with a couple of different pouches right below it (one is the top of a range finder while the other is from Tiny Tactical). His eyes were completely redone and I added his tongue to simulate a panting effect. The “Riley version” of the SEALs patch on his right side turned out pretty well, and I’m glad it did because it took more than a couple of attempts to get right. Also, his entire vest has a black weathered effect, which honestly completes his look in my opinion.
To conclude all of this, I’d like to address the general accuracy of these figures to their in-game appearance. They were not painted to be completely accurate, but rather to capture the basic concept of the characters.

An armoured personnel carrier utilized by the UT Enforcer Corps since 1960. It has been renovated to fit modern needs.

It's main variant, "I":
It uses a 25mm main autocannon as it's main weapon. On top of the turret is a remote controlled 5.56 machinegun, and employs twin guided missile pods that can be used against both air and armour units.
It's second variant, "AT":
The AT variant has only an guided missile rack to be used against both low flying air targets and armour, and a 5.56 mg for self defense.
It's third and final variant, "M":
The M variant has a main armament of a mortar. It also has a small turret armed with a 20mm autocannon and two guided missiles, that can be used against low flying air units and armour.

It's armour is lighter than the Cockroach, and it is faster. It uses the same type of armor, a lighter version.
Basic armour shell with an insert of alternating layers of aluminum and plastics and a controlled deformation section as it's first tier.
The second tier is the Kontakt-5 ERA (explosive reactive armor). It severely reduces the blow from kinetic projectiles. They are in the form of blocks on the turret and body or as ERA plates underneath steel outer covering. It results in much better protection than simple steel armour.
It utilizes a state-of-the-art infrared missile/projectile detection and elimination system. Third tier.

Petra (Arabic: البتراء, Al-Batrāʾ; Ancient Greek: Πέτρα), originally known as Raqmu (Nabataean Arabic: الرقيم), is a historical and archaeological city in southern Jordan. Petra lies on the slope of Jabal Al-Madbah in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah valley that run from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. Established possibly as early as the 4th century BC as the capital city of the Nabataean Kingdom. The Nabataeans were nomadic Arabs who invested in Petra's proximity to the trade routes by establishing it as a major regional trading hub.
The trading business gained the Nabataeans considerable revenue, and Petra became the focus of their wealth. The earliest recorded historical reference to the city was when an envious Greek dynasty attempted to ransack the city in 312 BC. The Nabataeans were, unlike their enemies, accustomed to living in the barren deserts, and were able to repel attacks by utilizing the area's mountainous terrain. They were particularly skillful in harvesting rainwater, agriculture and stone carving. The Kingdom's capital continued to flourish until the 1st century AD when its famous Al-Khazneh facade was constructed, and its population peaked at an estimated 20,000 inhabitants.
Encroaching troops of the Roman Empire in 106 AD forced the Nabataeans to surrender. The Romans annexed and renamed the Kingdom to Arabia Petraea. Petra's importance declined as sea trade routes emerged, and after a 363 earthquake destroyed many structures. The Byzantine Era witnessed the construction of several Christian churches. By 700, the city became an abandoned place where only a handful of nomads grazed goats. It remained an unknown place until it was rediscovered by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt in 1812, sparking renewed interest in the city.
The city is famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system. Another name for Petra is the Rose City due to the color of the stone out of which it is carved. It is a symbol of Jordan, as well as Jordan's most-visited tourist attraction. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. UNESCO has described it as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage".
I am feeling really impatient with the idea of waiting until a series is done before releasing it so I have decided to release as I go to share in the excitement and creative process.
In this series, with the tentative title 'Madonnas,' I am creating self portraits in the poses and typical style of depictions of the Virgin Mary. I am hand making my props out of household items from the dollar tree and utilizing Mary, 'the mother of mankind,' as a recognizable figure, in order to reflect the domestic expectations of motherhood and femininity for young women. While the series utilizing religious symbolism and references from art history, it is intended as a focus on womanhood rather than a commentary on religion.
Also I think prop making is a blast and I love the idea of creating elegant, painterly, surreal images using just stuff
