Exposure, is there a right one? I often utilize my histograms and the theory of ETTR. (Expose To The Right) However, that does not always render the most ideal image, even when manipulated in post. This shot was slightly underexposed and shot in RAW. The result better reveals the suns rays than the one with the right histogram. Perhaps it is best to keep on learning,
If you ever travel to the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, one of the many attractions available to you is Kayaking. In this case we went out with a group utilizing double Kayaks and toured about from 6pm to 10pm. And yes, that meant the potential for wild life viewing on the ocean, a colored sunset, and Kayaking in the dark. We were treated to all that and more. In addition, the water was almost dead calm. I joked with the others that we were the one's making waves as we travelled along at about 4M/H.
In this shot, we arrived at one of the many islands along the way staying more in an inlet than actually travelling out along the ocean. A shot I otherwise could never have, this one is from our Kayak as we peacefully floated enjoying the quiet, stillness, and the pleasures of nature. And, if you look very closely into the shot, you will notice a tug boat just off the shores of the lighthouse. We watched as both it and the log boom it was towing made its slow, inexorable way down the channel.
Seaweed ( kelp ) taken during our road trip to Robe, South Australia.
Seaweeds grow in abundance in the oceans, many of which are edible and safe for human consumption.
They have been documented to contain many of the essential nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds.
For many years, seaweeds have also been cultivated and utilized directly as food for humans or as feed to produce food for human consumption.
Since seaweeds grow in many climatic conditions globally, their cultivation has minimal impact on the environment.
Seaweeds are increasingly recognized as a sustainable food source with the potential to play a major role in providing food security worldwide.
Although seaweeds are part of the diet in many Asian countries and some European nations, there are some challenges in terms of their incorporation into the general diet in many places globally.
Innovation in food technology and culinology can help make seaweeds desirable organoleptically to increase their consumption.
Abstract from a book..Seaweeds: a sustainable food source.
Many thanks for your visit, comments, invites and faves...it is always appreciated..

The Molalla Indians used the trail in the early 1800's. It is now called the Table Rock Historic Trail. During the 1920's this same trail was utilized by Native Americans from the Warm Springs Reservation to reach traditional huckleberry picking areas near the Molalla River and Table Rock.
Table Rock Fork of the Molalla River located near Molalla, Oregon. It is a 5 mile whitewater kayaking & canoeing trail.
The Table Rock Fork is a great class three run, very continuous and entertaining. It is something of a mystery to me why this run hasn't gained popularity with local paddlers, but I think this will change as more people start venturing up there and word gets around.
Let me say that this is all the information I could find on-line about this part of the river.
The above are quotes taken from three different online sources.
As the heavens prepare for an imminent downpour, nature paints a breathtaking scene in the mountains of Tuscany.
Italy experiences a period of intense rainfall as dark clouds dominate the sky. The relentless downpour transforms the landscape, turning streets into temporary rivers and fields into saturated patches of earth. People navigate through the rain, seeking shelter and utilizing umbrellas and raincoats to stay dry. The heavy rainfall showcases the power and unpredictability of nature, reminding us of our vulnerability in the face of natural forces.

The last of 4 images utilizing spheres from Google and Bing images banks and manipulating them. Increasingly, these spheres took on an aspect of "Abstract Surrealism", something Max Ernst was a master of. His work in this area, toward the end of his life, is largely ignored and an over-looked body of extremely important art. At least I think so.

Not utilized for decades in passenger service, the Holly Depot has set unused and somewhat forlorn for years between the former GTW (now CN) Holly Sub and the former Pere Marquette (now Lake State) Saginaw Sub in the heart of town. After striking a sneaky deal with the village of Holly, the depot was sold to the village with the stipulation that it be moved off of railroad property. That move will happen this summer or fall, making scenes like this one no longer possible. Coming north into the fast falling sun, X251 comes into a hole in the shadows as they pass the depot heading north with a solid train of loaded racks for the IHB at Gibson.
Looking forward to the Winter chill, frost and murk, bring on the opportunities and challenges, and hopefully........ i may be ready to utilize them.or at least have a play.
I started to feather this in, then decided not to, i have idea's, when i have the correct images.
This is a crude effort in many ways, but i learn as i go, my planning needs refining, execution tweeking, and a concrete decision made as to which way i will be going process wise, before i take the shot, bracketing helps, but isn't always the answer.
Then there are the many things that you don't see with your minds eye, only with hindsight, i wish i could capture that.

Just got back from our last camping/photography trip of the late summer season. It snowed on us! I'll be trying to catch up today on all the great photos from my friends and family! :)
I just got a new landscape lens for my birthday, a Canon, of course. :) We went to Mono Lake basin to try it out. I love this shot because of all of the textures and colors. The white "tufas" sticking out of the water make for great contrast and objects of interest.
Mono Lake is a very special lake, with a very unique ecology. Native American Indians called this place home, and utilized the brine shrimp that thrive in the salty mineral water. Mono Lake is ringed by ancient cinder cones (volcanic cores) and natural hot springs. Learn more about unique Mono Lake here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mono_Lake
After months of discussing the logistics of making this happen with Steven, and his coordination with GLC, when it finally happened we had something that neither of us planned on: A makeshift lake. After getting insidious amounts of rain the previous 48 hours to the tune of 5 inches, all that rain had no where to go except collect in the yard for us to utilize. With lights staged and pushed to the limits, limits I have never taken them to before, the calm wind made the perfect setting.

The natural barriers of this place tend to keep people away. I've only seen a few photographs from this location, and although it's very well known, the challenges of the closest nearby town starting at 4,000 meters (13,000 feet). This definitely presents challenges for most people that would probably confront altitude sickness if going straight here from sea-level. The air is thin, and trekking feels like you're perhaps trying to hold your breath while hiking every 5 breaths. Interestingly, as remote as this place feels and is, there are plenty of villagers utilizing the pasture land to graze sheep, goats, cows, horses, donkeys, and a variety of water fowl seem to sustain here as well. In fact, I believe this area is not parkland, or protected, but the local people do make sure you pay to visit. Although I visited in August, which might be considered peek trekking season because of the fair weather, I'd suggest going in May or June to get the after effect of the wet season producing flowers, and green pastures. I searched for many miles to find flowers on some of the 4,800 meter hills surrounding the peaks, and there was nothing to be found to work with except rocks, and dry fields. This location, even in the dry season has some finicky weather, and it got very cold - which means very cold when coming from a guy use to spending lots of time in the arctic and alpine. This particular photo is a stich of shots from the air, with a launching point high on the hills surrounding.
The juvenile black-winged kite (Elanus caeruleus), also known as the black-shouldered kite, is a small diurnal bird of prey in the family Accipitridae best known for its habit of hovering over open grasslands in the manner of the much smaller kestrels. This kite is distinctive, with long wings; white, grey and black plumage; and owl-like forward-facing eyes with red irises. Although mainly seen on plains, they are sometimes seen on grassy slopes of hills in the higher elevation regions of Asia. They are not migratory, but show nomadism in response to weather and food availability. They are well adapted to utilize periodic upsurges in rodent populations and can raise multiple broods in a single year unlike most birds of prey. Populations in southern Europe have grown in response to human activities, particularly agriculture and livestock rearing.

New Topographics photographers utilized document style image making " to provide a format for the emerging ecological consciousness" which was evolving in the 70's.
Indeed many interviews show "they were not environmentalists, but rather they simply were artists making pictures in places that interested them."

Edited scene of „CLAY AND SEED“ by Haveit Neox with Bamboo Barnes and Lilia Artis in second life.
----------------------------------------
Comment by the creators:
„CLAY AND SEED
A collaboration of art, utilizing 3D, 2D, and Text. For the Clay and Seed exhibit, Bamboo Barnes chose to focus on 2D artwork, Lilia Artis on poetry, and Haveit Neox on sculpture and architecture. The goal was to have these disciplines unite into a single work, which in this case of three like-minded artists, occurred organically.
Haveit’s galleries provide the supporting walls for Bamboo’s imagery, while Lilia’s poetry garnishes the windows of these clay buildings and thus closes the circle. During the process, each artist’s work contained a seed of inspiration for the other two. Being admirers of each other’s works for many years, it seems destiny smiled on these three with the opportunity to share their visions together and in an art region that inspired their creativity.
Describing the erosion of the environment and human relationships, the work of all three artists explores the fields of destruction, growth, abuse, hope, gratefulness, and loneliness..“

Attention, troopers! This is Admiral Tarkin with new orders. The chancellor has voiced his concern over the new threats arising in the Dathomir system. A malicious group known as Night Sisters has repeatedly interfered with our military expeditions. Reports show that this group and its members utilize unordinary weaponry and something that, in lack of a better expression, could be described as a sorcery. While you are familiar with the dubious ways of the Jedi already, their abilities might be even more absurd. In consensus with the chancellor, my research team and I have decided that a live subject is needed for further research into this matter. Your mission is to acquire a suitable subject in an assault on one of the Night Sister's lairs on Dathomir. The Jedi are not to be informed of this assignment and will have no part in this operation. I will personally lead the attack. Our assault will be swift and precise. Failure is unacceptable.

Hey there! Welcome to the Dathomir Collaboration! I'm so excited to kick things off today with part one. My part depicts the mission briefing in the hangar of a Venator Class Star Destroyer. A lot of inspiration for the hangar was taken from h2brick's MOC, and obviously, Venator hangars themselves. Speaking of inspiration, the AT-RT is pretty much just a combination of multiple different custom AT-RTs I've seen. Mainly, MClegoboy !. His AT-RT. I would credit the others, but I can't remember their names, and can't find the posts anymore. This thing is certainly rough around the edges. But I had fun trying some new techniques, and in the end, I'm happy with it.
Get excited! Part 2 comes out Thursday, September 3rd!

A fine looking trio of UP SD40N's ease down Track 80 of the KCT North-South Corridor with NS train 115 bound for UP's 18th St. Yard.
Most often, NS trains bound for the UP utilize a connection from the Gooseneck on the KCT to the UP KC Metro Sub at St Louis Ave, but sometimes they'll run them south down the KCT all the way to Santa Fe JCT, turn west onto the lower deck of the KCT Kaw River Bridge, north up KCT Track 354/UP Elevator Lead and finally back west again via The By's to Terminal JCT.
The NS power that brought the train into town was removed at NS's Avondale Yard and replaced with some UP power off a train that terminated there, which happened to be this set of SD40N's. I'm definitely not complaining. 8/31/22.
The remote Lighthouse of Ponta do Albernaz sits atop a cliff on the Northwest tip of the Island of Flores in the Azores. A lighthouse was first planned for the settlement of Ponta Delgada on the east coast in 1883. It was never built when in 1902 a commission on lighthouse postponed the plans in order to modernize the design and study the best location for a lighthouse. They came up with a controversial and unexpected proposal: Build a first-order light, with an equidistant beacon providing rotation at 5 second intervals on the promontory of Ponta do Albernaz about 3 kilometers (1.9 mi) away from the settlement of Ponta Delgada. That elevated position along the western coast would allow visibility as approached from the west, to the east in Corvo as well as the entire northwest / north coast of Flores.
In what was reported to be a friendly transaction, 5.525 square kilometres (2.133 sq mi) of pastureland was expropriated (at the cost of $3.500 reis) from property-owner João Lourenço in 1922. Construction commenced soon afterward. That construction, however, was a challenge as there was no access to the site by road from Ponta Delgada or any other location on Flores. The plans were adapted to the realities of the situation and the lighthouse was equipped with a third-order dioptoric beacon with a 500 millimetres (20 in) focal length. Moved by a clockwork turntable, the light had a range of 28 miles (45 km) range and was powered by a diesel generator. The lighthouse commenced operation on 28 January 1925, and utilized a lamp powered by a diesel generator.
Many modification have been made since it first started operation. In 1938, the light was converted to incandescent light which allowed the beacon to extend its range to 35 miles (56 km). In 1956, generating cells and a 3000watt/110 volt lamp were installed. In 1960, the site finally became connected to a telephone network. Later other improvement were made including expanding the lighthouse, and finally in 1983 replacing the light with a 1000 Watt/120 Volt halogen lamp.
Today, Farol da Ponta do Albarnaz is the only lighthouse in Portugal not linked to the national electrical network. Yes, a remote lighthouse.

The red-necked falcon usually hunts in pairs, often at dawn and dusk, sometimes utilizing a technique in which one of the pair flies low and flushes up small birds while the other follows higher up and seizes the prey as it flushes from cover. They fly with a fast and dashing flight.
It prefers to prey on birds found in open areas and some of the species it has been recorded to hunt are Eurasian tree sparrow (Passer montanus), house sparrow (Passer domesticus), white-browed wagtail (Motacilla madaraspatensis), rosy starling (Sturnus roseus), chestnut-tailed starling (Sturnus malabaricus), Indian cuckoo (Cuculus micropterus), Kentish plover (Charadrius alexandrinus), little ringed plover (Charadrius dubius), ashy-crowned finch-lark (Eremoptrix griseus), besides robins, quails, babblers, swifts, bulbuls, pipits, larks (mainly Calandrella, Alauda, Galerida sp.), pied cuckoo (Clamator jacobinus), rock pigeon (Columba livia), collared dove (Streptopelia decaocto), laughing dove (Streptopelia senegelensis), brown crake (Lanius cristatus), tailor bird (Orthotomus sutorius), brown shrike (Lanius cristatus), white-breasted kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis), little stint (Calidris minuta), plain martin (Riparia paludicola) and pied bushchat (Saxicola caprata). In addition mice, lizards, large insects are also taken. In one study in Bangladesh, adults fed mainly on small sparrow sized birds (72%) and Pipistrellus bats (28%).They may sometimes pirate prey obtained by other medium-sized raptors. Prey may sometimes be cached and eaten subsequently.
The red-necked falcon drinks water where available during the afternoons. This has been observed both in India and in Africa, where it sometimes visits waterholes.
The breeding season in India is January to March. In Zambia, the breeding season begins in August. Pairs may indulge in courtship feeding in which the female feeds the male, an unusual behaviour that has also been noted in captivity. This falcon often reuses the old tree nests of corvids, or lays its 3-5 eggs in a nest that it builds on the fork of a tall tree or in the crown of a palm tree. In Africa, they have been known to reuse the nests of pied crows (Corvus albus), African fish eagles (Halieaetus vocifer) on Acacia apart from building their own nest in Borassus palms. In India, the nest is often placed in a large mango tree (Mangifera indica) and concealed inside foliage. The nest territory is well-guarded and crows and kites driven away. This falcon has been documented to nests in trees amidst dense human population. The clutch consists of two to four eggs which are incubated only by the female which begins after the last egg of the clutch is laid. The eggs hatch after about 32 to 34 days and the newly hatched young are covered in white down and are brooded by the female for a week. The male brings food which is torn by the female and fed to the chicks. The young fledge in about 35 to 37 days in Africa and up to 48 days in India.

Big Dog produced ten models; the K-9, the Ridgeback, the "Chopper", the "Husky", the "Boxer", the Mastiff, the Pitbull, the Coyote, the Wolf and their most recent addition, the Bull Dog. All of their current motorcycles utilize S&S V-twin engines, 6-speed transmission, one-piece fuel tank, wide rear tires, and extensive use of chromed and billet aluminum components. All of these models could be described as cruiser or chopper style motorcycles. Major differences between the models include rear tire width (250mm versus 300mm), front tube length, and rear suspension.
