A quiet Sunday afternoon afforded me an hour to put some colour on yesterday's pen sketch. There is plenty of colour on the bookshelves when you start to look properly, and the colours on the flower card were a joy to do, not in my usual palette that is dominated by earth colours. I used my Winsor and Newton travelling watercolour set and waterbrush over the Staedtler Pigment Liner pen in an A4 Ebony sketchbook.
The last of the clematis flowers. The blooms on this plant are huge, about six inches (15cm) across. It has done very well this year and, because we have been obliged to stay at home by the pandemic, we have been able to fully appreciate it. I didn't quite get the colour right, it is really a rather lighter hue, but maybe with practice I will get better next time.
Drawing laundry on a washline is good way to add life and movement to a reconstruction drawing. It's a good idea therefore to practice drawing it from time to time. It is also useful to practice bringing objects forward by darkening the background. I was also experimenting at suggesting vegetation rather than draw it in detail. Staedtler Pigment Liner pen and watercolour in an A4 cartridge paper sketchbook.
Jute Road seen from the bedroom. I drew this view a few weeks ago but discovered this different angle after getting something from the wardrobe. The houses were built in about 1947-48, to several designs which provide homes of different sizes. The hill was formed at the end of the Ice Age, when the ice sheets were retreating and creating glacial moraines. The drawing took about two and three quarter hours, quite a while for an urban sketch but it was snug in the bedroom while wind howled outside.
due to the enhanced lock-down, a new chapter in the #USKATHOME category, going through my artbooks at home.:)
An open window in the sitting room, listening to the birds. We really need to work out how to fit some more bookshelves into the house. Drawn with a Pilot C-Tec 0.25 pen in an A4 sketchbook. Inspired to draw it after reading about Andrew Wyeth and his fascination with windows.
The folding chairs standing ready for use when the weather matches the forecast. It is a bit cold at the moment but is forecast to improve later in the week. Drawn with a Staedtler Pigment Liner pen in an A4 sketchbook.
