Using an ICM zoom movement to capture my Nashi Pear Tree in silhouette as the sun rose this morning.
Right now however, we have gentle rain which is most welcome as it brings some cooler weather and needed water. HSoS

The site of Side's temples of Apollo and Athena is perhaps the most romantic and moving antique monument of Anatolia. These structures date back from the 2nd century AD and are located at the southwestern tip of Side's harbor. The temple of Apollo has partly been re-erected and has become Side's trademark. Side's marina is a popular anchoring place for yachts. In addition, the fine sandy beaches make it a top beach holiday destination. The colorful inner town with its ancient ruins and tourist shops is effectively pedestrianized and transportation for those opposing a walk is done by a Disney-like little train

A weird angle used to capture a weird angle.. the odd angle of the east wall (the far wall in this photo) is apparently because it follows the line of a passageway here prior to 1678. The weird angle chosen by the photographer is because this church is also a very busy cafe and was full of customers. I was lucky to get this shot nearly devoid of them. Taken during a brief stop here during an OpenCity organised walking tour of the churches of Christopher Wren.
"St Mary Aldermary (or St Mary Elder Mary) is an Anglican church located on Bow Lane at the junction with Watling Street, in the City of London within the United Kingdom.[1][2]
Of medieval origin, rebuilding began in 1510 and was not finished until 1632. Severely damaged just 33 years later during the Great Fire of London in 1666, it was rebuilt once more by the office of Sir Christopher Wren. Unlike most of Wren's City churches, St Mary Aldermary was reconstructed in the Gothic Revival style. In 1952 its role was changed from a parish church to that of a guild church, intended to serve commuters and non-resident workers within the City of London. The main church space acts a public cafe during weekday business hours, with religious and meditative sessions held during mornings and evenings."

A vintage display in the middle of the country west of Milledgeville,IL. This is on the property of an Illinois centennial farm. Have a great truck Thursday all and pray for rain-no rain in my area for almost 3 weeks! Couldn't get my planting done till early June because it was too wet and it hasn't rained since.I guess you can't mess with Mother Nature! LOL
This farmer ran a local filling station for many years as well, thus the Mobil memorabilia...
I use the old style wooden snowshoes on most of my hikes in new or heavy snow. My "modern" aluminum framed ones usually stay on the rack for groomed trails or spring days when the snow is wet and slushy.
Nothing of all you have longed for or have sought to hold fast can relieve you of your thirst, your loneliness, until you learn to take in your hands and raise to your lips this cup of solitude his chalice of the void and drain it to the dregs.
-Paul Murray, Scars, p. 101.
The sight with which the soul is endowed by nature is Charity. This sight has two eyes: Love and reason. Reason can see God only in what He is not; Love rests not except in what He is. Reason has safe paths along which to proceed; Love feels Her failure, but this failure makes Her advance more than reason does. Reason proceeds towards what God is by what He is not; Love sets aside the things that God is not and rejoices in Her failure, as regards what God is. Reason is more easily satisfied, but Love has more sweetness and bliss. However, these two are of great mutual help to each other, for reason instructs Love and Love enlightens reason. When reason is carried away by Love’s desire, and when Love accepts to be guided by reason, within reason’s limits, together they can accomplish a wonderful work. But you cannot be taught this except by experience.

The greater flameback (Chrysocolaptes guttacristatus) also known as greater goldenback, large golden-backed woodpecker is a common, four-toed, large-billed, golden-backed woodpecker found in wet tropical and subtropical forests across South and Southeast Asia.
This is a large woodpecker, at 33 cm in length. It is of typical woodpecker shape, and has an erect crest and a long neck. it always has unmarked golden-yellow to dark brown back and wings. The rump is red and the tail is black. The underparts are white with dark markings (chevrons, stripes, or bands), or light brown. The head is whitish with a black pattern, or it is yellow, brown, or red. The straight-pointed bill is longer than the head, and the legs have four-toed zygodactyl feet (two toes pointing forward, two backward) and are lead-grey in color. The eyes' irises are whitish to yellow. The adult male greater flameback always has a red crown. Females have a crown color varying between subspecies, such as black spotted with white, yellow, or brown with lighter dots. Young birds are like the females, but duller, with brown irises.
This flameback is a species associated with a diversity of rather open forest habitat, such as found in the foothills of the Himalayas; it also inhabits mangrove forest. Like other woodpeckers, the greater flameback uses its bill to dig out food from trees, and its zygodactyl feet and stiff tail to provide support against tree trunks. The long tongue can be darted forward to extract wood-boring arthropod prey; while mainly feeding on small invertebrates, greater flamebacks also drink nectar. They nest in tree holes, laying three or four white eggs.

There are certainly countless motifs that can be used to symbolize the new beginning of a year. A sunrise outside in nature (in this case on the Hoher Schneeberg in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains) is my favorite.
In both cases we are on a path that leads us into a new phase of life. A path that is only known to us to a certain extent and where a big surprise (or challenge) can be waiting for us around the next bend.
Now you could object that a day is just a day and in comparison a year must be much more significant. I would like to show you why I don't quite see it that way.
On the one hand, this assessment is based on our standards, which are based on a human life. If we look at it from the perspective of the lifespan of the universe, a year is just as insignificant as a day (basically the effects of neither are noticeable).
On the other hand, a single day, a single decision is enough to fundamentally change our own world in every conceivable direction.
So what if we didn't wait for a specific date every year to realize where we want to go, but could use every single day of the year to do so?
Our creative possibilities would increase many times over and we would have so much more room for directional corrections. We could learn, try things out and gain experience without having to ask the fundamental question every time.
With this in mind, I wish you all a good start and an exciting and fulfilling journey.
Because today is the first day of the rest of all of our lives.

Lollipop sticks are usually a single use item that is discarded (Hopefully into a waste bin.) once the lolly has been finished.
These coloured lollipop sticks are primarily used for crafting, however I have used them for photography a few times, even this time I have kept the half sticks for future use.
This 1 inch lensball is showing an inversed image of lollipop sticks stuck to an old CD. The CD is 1.5 inches behind the lensball, the result reminds me of an eyeball.
Macro Monday theme; Single Use
Happy Macro Monday folks !!
I'm evaluating an old Bessa (Skopar f3.5, used wide open) to see how it performs in this context. Also evaluating my current batch of Bergger Pancro 400, which has misbehaved badly any time I have run it through any of the Pyro developers (totally unusable negs). I made up fresh D-76 last night and ran this test roll through it (1:1, 17 min) and its OK. I get the impression that there's something not quite right with the current Pancro 400 (120 roll) so I will likely avoid it for the foreseeable future.

English
The Puerta de Alcalá ("Alcalá Gate") is a Neo-classical monument in the Plaza de la Independencia ("Independence Square") in Madrid, Spain. It stands near the city center and several meters away from the main entrance to the Parque del Buen Retiro. The square is bisected by Alcalá Street, although the street itself doesn't cross through the monument, and it is the origin of the Alfonso XII, Serrano and Olózaga streets. Its name originates from the old path from Madrid to the nearby town of Alcalá de Henares.
Madrid in the late 18th century, still remained a somewhat drab villa in appearance, surrounded by medieval walls. Around the year 1774, king Charles III commissioned Francesco Sabatini to construct a monumental gate in the city wall through which an expanded road to the city of Alcalá was to pass, replacing an older, smaller, gate which stood nearby. It was inaugurated in 1778.

That day I was in a hurry to go to a family lunch gathering, saw this scene on the way without my camera in hand. After the lunch, I went straight home, grabbed my camera, and returned to this location. Fortunately, nothing was changed.
The owner of the prosthetic leg was about ten meters away on a wheel chair, selling chewing gums. He asked if I were a reporter. He said he does not need report, nor help from the government or anyone. He just lost his leg a few months ago, things had been tough, but he thought as long as he can sell 40 gums a day, he can support himself no problem.
I thanked him for allow me to take pictures, wished him good luck and left, but didn't ask why he had to put the leg so far away from himself.
A few days later, I bumped into him again, this time I asked him why, and his answer was quite amusing. He said he is sick and tired of looking at the leg, that's why. But once he putted it further away, about triple the distance as it is now, a janitor came by and thought someone dumped it, then tried to carry it away, so he had to chase the janitor (on his wheel chair). Therefore it appears the way it is now: far enough, but not too far.
Used to measure the alcohol content of liquids. The funnel holds about 2ml for scale. Personally, I prefer just to read the label and taste.
