The centerpiece of Tahquamenon Falls State Park's 50,000 acres is the Tahquamenon River with its waterfalls. The Upper Falls, one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi, has a drop of nearly 50 feet, more than 200 feet across and a water flow of more than 50,000 gallons per second.

After a day at the Grand Canyon, Mike and I went to Page where we met up with Brian again and did a tour of the Upper Antelope Canyon. It was beyond spectacular but a bit rushed. You have to have a guide take you and as Brian said he must have been in a hurry to get back and watch Judge Wapner:-))).

We also met up with Rick (not ansel) www.flickr.com/photos/21059999@N08/ who was nice enough to drive up from Flagstaff and he took us on quite a drive into Utah after our tour of the canyon. More on that later. It's a bit challenging trying to get shots without people walking into them at this place. They would just appear around a corner in the middle of an exposure and ruin it!!! After a few of these incidents, Brian was getting rather threatening to people lol.

A view of Upper Glacier Gorge in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. From left to right: Half Mountain and Storm Peak, with Longs Peak totally obscured by clouds, followed by the Keyboard of the Winds and Pagoda Mountain, and (I think) Thatchtop cut off on the right. I believe we were on Flattop Mountain Trail when I took this, though we were on a guided snowshoe hike so I lost track of where we were exactly! Some added noise in the sky from the huge snowflakes falling as the sun began to set.

The Upper Antelope Canyon is a beautiful slot canyon on Navajo property near Page, Arizona. The Navajo name for this canyon is 'Tsé bighánílíní', which means 'the place where water runs through the rocks'. It's accessible via a guided tour only. It's a bit pricey, but worth the money: The sandstone waves and colours are amazing!

Good place for a fall walk.

Out and about in West Virginia the past couple days ... and for a few more. Having fun hiking in my water shoes ... had to hike about 1/3 mile up along the Falls of Hills Creek to get this view near the base of the Upper Falls. Took quite the number shots along the river with many small drops heading to this location. There is a trail and platform for this waterfall, but at that location it is quite steep with no access to the bottom. But if you head along the trail towards Middle Falls, the trail eventually drops to river level, where you can then enter the river and walk back about 1/3 mile in the creek to get this point of view.

Was a total blast.

Visited a bunch of other locations as well as exploring the highlands around this area of West Virginia.

Sorry to post and run, but the internet around this local, and cell service, has been quite limited or none. This is also a real low resolution version, as the high rez version would not load with the internet here in our cabin.

Upper Sheep Creek Falls, Northport Washington, 21 ft. high. It is an easy hike up from the lower falls to this little gem, hidden away in a pretty little gorge. The descent down to the creek is steep, however, and it is not possible to get all the way to creek level. I had to take the photo from a slippery cliff ledge above the creek.

I haven't been out to make the most of the foggy conditions this week.

This is a photo from Upper Moor in the Peak District that I got last month in similar conditions.

Upper Falls is at the trail head of the 6 mile hike that connects the major areas of Hocking Hills. A beautiful gorge trail, the hike winds past several waterfalls and caves along the way.

"Old Man's Cave derives its name from the hermit Richard Rowe who lived in the large recess cave of the gorge. His family moved to the Ohio River Valley around 1796 from the Cumberland Mountains of Tennessee to establish a trading post. He and his two dogs traveled through Ohio along the Scioto River in search of game. On one side trip up Salt Creek, he found the Hocking Region. Rowe lived out his life in the area and is buried beneath the ledge of the main recess cave." (hockinghills.com/old_mans_cave.html)"

One week after getting carpel tunnel surgery on my dominant right hand, I have been going through camera withdrawals. So, this morning I took out my little lens and went to my favorite local park. No tripod so all hand held, so dont look too close, lol.

Letchworth State Park was voted #1 state park in the US last year. It boasts three major waterfalls and numerous smaller ones. It also gets some amazing fall colors, when the weather is right for them.

Upper Antelope Canyon at noon, Page, AZ

The canyon is accessible only by guided tour, lead by Navajo (the land is owned by the Navajo).

I read that tripods are no longer allowed and photography specific tours are no longer available. I used a tripod when I went, but I guess a fast image stabilized lens will be required from now on...

The stories the guides tell of the land, the discovery of the place… are as interesting as the place itself.

Flash floods have been known to occur here, so it is best to avoid monsoon season, and stay with your guide at all times.

Speaking of backup batteries, it is a good thing I followed my own advice, because my battery died just before I took this shot. The 20D was still new to me then, and I wanted to see how many shots I could get from one battery. I still remember the look on the guys face next to me when I said to myself “uh oh, dead battery!”

Please have a look at my Arizona album for more.

Upper West is a mixed-used skyscraper in Berlin, Germany. It is located at Breitscheidplatz in the City West area of Berlin , next to the high-rise Zoofenster. It opened on May 3, 2017, and was designed by Christoph Langhof and KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten (Berlin).

I'm so sorry to have been away so long. I've been checking in as often as possible and have continued to enjoy everyone's pictures, but I haven't had time to keep up with posting or commenting. Unfortunately, we're going to be gone again soon, and will be off much of the summer. I'm posting this shot from Upper Antelope Canyon to let you all know I'm still alive and thinking of you. I'll try to get back up and running as soon as I can! Flickr has changed so much I'm a bit lost in the new system.

The Tahquamenon Falls State Park is a 46,179-acre state park in Upper Michigan. The water is brown in color from the tannins leached from the cedar, spruce, and hemlock in the swamps drained by the river.

Upper West (former: Atlas Tower) is a tower at the Breitscheidplatz in Charlottenburg, Berlin/Germany. With its 119 meters it is the fourth highest building in Berlin.

As the San Rafael River descends the eastern side of the San Rafael Swell it cuts two fantastic slot canyons--the Upper Black Box and the Lower Black Box. The Upper, or upstream slot canyon, is approximately 5 miles long, has a maximum depth of 400 feet and a minimum width of 25 feet. Experienced cannoneers rappel either 90 or 180 feet (two routes) into the slot and then wade and swim several miles downstream until the slot dwindles and they can safely exit.

As I was setting up for this shot, I saw that a strap had become draped over the lens. I impatiently pulled it free, inadvertently unscrewing the lens hood, which fell and bounced with a ping on the rock I was standing on. I froze, and made no effort to catch it, for I was perilously close to the edge. But I watched, and listened. It rolled, dropped off the edge, then bounced repeatedly, each time making a distinctive "ping." When the pings stopped, I knew that my lens hood was at the bottom of the slot canyon.

If perchance you are swimming and wading in the Upper Black Box and find a lens hood, please send it to me.
