I was watching an egret and a great blue heron scan an area near each other. The egret clearly was yielding to the heron. At one point, the heron made a move toward the egret's location, after which the egret took off and landed in this tree, and called out in frustration.

Another from the Otterbourne session. This time coming up out of the water, without a fish!

Yesterday I came across a pond with water lilies, and straw reflected in the water. I converted the picture to B&W and turned it upside down! But then again, what's up and what's down?

For those that aren't familiar with London this is the Greenwich foot tunnel. It runs under the Thames and connects Greenwich with the Isle of Dogs, leading onto Canary Wharf a mile or two beyond. At both ends of the foot tunnel is a lift plus a set of stairs. I used to know the exact number of steps to get to street level because when I was still working my folding bicycle and I used to go through this foot tunnel twice a day and more often than not one or both of the lifts would be out of service. Not sure how reliable they are these days but what I can say is when I used it on my recent visit it was working just fine. So this is me up against the wall of the lift shooting back through the glass doors towards the tunnel just as the doors have closed.

Crazy Tuesday#Looking Up

HCT!

Hello Everyone!

Mother Nature treated Winnipeg to hoar frost one morning, so out I dashed with my macro lens. I found some milkweed seed pods that were all dressed up in their frosted finery!

Thanks a million for stopping by and for leaving a comment. I love hearing from you! Have a wonderful day!

“There’s always a reason to look up.”

Quote ― A.D. Posey

“A sunrise is a wondrous marvel, but in reality the sun never rises. It is the earth that rotates to face the sun. Life too can be a wondrous marvel, but like the earth, we must turn our eyes toward brighter things.”

Is it just me, or isn't that last vault, the one just up against the opposite wall, a bit strange? Like someone got the measurements wrong?

Inside the The abbey of Our Lady in Lonlay (or Lonlay-l'Abbaye).

This abbey, at first situated outside the town of Lonlay (now the place has grown) was founded by William of Bellême (Guillaume Ier de Bellême), with the original charter signed around 1020. It was a Benedictine abbey, built in Romanesque style. It had several priories, including Notre Dame sur l'eau in Domfront (which can be seen here: www.flickr.com/photos/dameboudicca/20515002803 ). The whole place saw substantial renovations and rebuilding in the 12th and 14th century and the church is now in the Gothic style. But it also saw two fires in the 16th century - the first started by accident in 1533 (which destroyed much of the abbey archives) and the second by Huguenots in 1574 during the War of Religions. The Benedictine order left after this and the place was never fully rebuilt. The church was also damaged by bombs in 1944 and the liberation of France. A full restoration (including archaeological studies) began in 1965 and in 1973 the church was once again open for parish use.

A Little Owl rousing........

Birds rouse by raising their feathers away from the body, shaking them out, and rearranging them. Often this behavior is performed during grooming, after a bath, or just when the bird feels content and relaxed. Rousing clears the plumage of any debris or excess water, much like a dog that shakes its fur out.
