A screenshot from Stevens Creek Software’s upcoming iPhone app, TripLog/1040. I’m not even sure where to start. My favorite little touch, I think, is the way “Frequent Trips” is wrapped across two lines because it didn’t fit.

The Pay and Go box at the new North Oshawa medical clinic seems to have some usability issues.

I mentioned on Twitter that the app I was most disappointed not to find in the initial App Store selection was a good, simple notes app with web-backed storage or synching to the desktop of some sort. A slew of people asked me what was wrong with Evernote. I’d say pretty much everything.

On the left, the editing UI for a new note. That's me typing "This UI is horrible". On the right, that's what you see after saving the note and then opening it to read. Yes, you can two-finger zoom to actually read it, but you can't actually edit the note again. You can't even edit the title or the tags. Useless.

Very happy today. My baby project in 2006 got featured in Step Inside Design September/October 2007 issue (print edition), and they gave me a pull quote.

Read my blog post to see the full text of the article, interaction model, credits, my personal notes on the project and my personal thank you notes. Here is a snippet of the article:

“Light is the metaphor for hope and knowledge,” says Gregg Fisher, vice president of Health and Life Science Practice at IconNicholson.

So it only seems appropriate that the firm developed an interactive candle-lighting experience for the 2006 Light to Unite website. This annual campaign from Bristol-Myers Squibb raises awareness as well as funds for HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention in the U.S.

“When people start to think about AIDS, they often think about Africa,” says See-ming Lee, art director and senior interface engineer. “It’s still a very serious disease in the United States.”

New custom background and folder icons for my workhorse machine ... definitely has a retro sci-fi feel. I might eventually try to animate the energy bar at the bottom and/or add some more techno-graphics, but for now it’s static. #ui #uidesign #minimaldesign #design #graphics #blackandwhite #darktheme #scifi #scifidesign #background #desktopbackground #wallpaper #personalbrand #welcometothemachine #obedientmachine

Fucking England. Why can't we sell all our transport infrastructure to the French?

An inch of snow and the entire transport network in the south-east collapses into anarchy.

That said, this really is the best piece of UI design I've ever seen. It's Transport for London's real-time tube map and all the lines are greyed out, unless there's a problem, when they show up in their normal colour.

It's perfect, because anyone who uses London's transport enough to check how fucked it is can just glance at it for a moment and see whether or not their journey is gonna be like this morning's or not.

Love it.

Except this morning.
