The Flickr Lounge: Week 39: They come in twos.
Actually Balck Skimmers do not come in twos. They tend to travel in flocks. ( See below.) But I just happened to see a couple of them at the edge of the flock.
Perhaps the reason Geordi Laforge never took his trademark glasses off was because he was busy binge watching every season of House of Cards.

Two special schemes paired on the Coast Starlight no. 11 at Ferrier Road in Winlock, WA. Veterans' Appreciation 42 and Amtrak Heritage 156 traveling elephant style with no. 824.

Two colour hibiscus.
Shot hand-held with the Sony NEX7 and the SEL35 1.8. This compact APS-C lens is very sharp, offers a pleasing bokeh and focuses close. A desirable lens, my opinion.
My back garden is not hibiscus friendly, but we soldier on every year, replacing the dead plants with eternal optimism. This year, the flowers surprise us by being multi tone -- in years past, we'd see yellow or fuscia, but never a combination.

As we were entering the Great Sand Dunes National park we saw these two beautiful animals. We were surprised to find them together this time of year.

A visit in hope after my most recent visit, at a weekend, proved very unproductive as many roaming dogs left the beach empty of most birds. Sanderlings are usually present at this time of year.

Not just two beauties together, but I meant - 2 photos from a single shot: a close 'zoom-in', and a 'wideangle' - both from the long-ish 55mm end of the kit zoom. Even the 'wideangle' is cropped, 55mm is actually wider (see SooC) but I gave it some spherical distortion for that 'wide' look. As usual, I experimented with different corrections and processing for each one. What do you think?
As well as the big boys on the roads of Britain in the golden years the majority of lorries would fall into the category of middle-weight being four-wheelers of perhaps 10/12 ton gross with a pay-load of about 7 or 8 tons and amazingly a sizable portion of these small fry would be employed on long-distance work. Here are two examples at the quality end of the middle-weight market, on the left stands a Vulcan 7 tonner and next to it an early Seddon 8 tonner both powered by the famous Perkins P6 diesel engine which produced a mind-boggling 60 bhp at 2000 rpm!

That's two Geminid meteors from two different images taken about 3 minutes apart. The longer streak was first.
It's NOT correct to call every meteor during the Geminid shower a "Geminid". The word Geminid implies that the meteor came from the vicinity of the constellation Gemini. Here you can easily see the two bright stars just to the left of the brightest object, the planet Jupiter - those are Castor and Pollux.
Draw lines through each "streak" and you'll notice that they intersect above one of the two brightest stars in Gemini (of course it helps to know the direction the meteors traveled!)
Other things in the shot you might spot include Orion just beneath the tree branch, and the bright star Sirius just rising to the left of the transmission tower.
