I made this card as part of a photo tutorial on making flower embellishments from recycled dryer sheets that I wrote for Splitcoaststampers. The tutorial may be found here:

For details on this card, including the DeNami stamps I used to make it, please see my blog post:

Here's a little idea I got from the PhotoshopTV podcast. It was presented by Matt Klowkowski (sp.?) who said it was offered by a participant at Photoshop World. This is not exactly what they suggested, I've added my own variations, but it gives an interesting sketch effect. ORIGINAL UPLOAD HERE
1. Duplicate your background layer. The simplest way is command (control on PC) + j.
2. Next is desaturate "Layer 1" . From the menu it's Image > Adjustments > Desaturate. The easiest method is command (control on PC) + shift + u.
3. Duplicate "Layer 1" twice (command + j) so (in order) from the top you have "Layer 1 copy 2," "Layer 1 copy," "Layer 1," and "Background.".
4. Click on "Layer 1 copy" and invert it. From the menu its Image > Adjustment > Invert. It's easier just doing Command (control on the PC) + i.
5. Put "Layer 1 copy" in "Color Dodge" blending mode from the Layer's Pallet menu under the word "Layers".
6. Put "Layer 1 Copy 2" (the top layer) in "Overlay" blending mode. Your photo should now be WHITE.
7. Click on the inverted layer (Layer 1 copy) and run a gaussian blur on it. On this photo I chose 75.
8. While still on the inverted layer (Layer 1 copy), go Filters > Other > Minimum and move the slider to the desired effect. I used 60 on this photo.
You should now have a nice sketch effect.
COLOR YOU SAY.
There's probably dozens of ways to add color. Here's what I did. I duplicated the Background layer (the color one) and using my mouse I moved it to the top of the layer stack. I added a layer mask and chose Edit > Fill and made it 50% gray (grey for the Brits). Then with a soft brush I painted the eye areas, using white.
