This tutorial will show you what I do to ensure little or no slipping and sliding when installing a hidden zipper for pillows.

Take the top flap on the left side (the one you just folded over) and fold its left edge to the center.

After the panel is in place, run a stretch zigzag stitch around the leg openings. T-shirt fabric does not fray, but I think this makes the finished product look better, and keep it's shape longer.

Freshly Picked has a great tutorial on making a coin purse.

However, I didn't have oilcloth on hand, so I made mine with quilting cotton, batting and a lining. These are my modifications to her tutorial. Please still refer to her instructions for basic construction technique as my pictures only show how I deviated from her tutorial.

{Tutorial will be posted 1/8/11}

I used Lorraine's Puppy Love Tutorial to make these puppies! She is such a wonderful teacher, the tutorial is excellent and worth every penny!

Ok, so learning to make bootcovers wasn't as 'quick' and 'easy' as I thought. To tell the truth, it took me three tries to get it right.

So I had already mocked up how to extend the shaft of the boot to knee-height and had that set aside. According to tutorials (I've linked the two most helpful ones on facebook recently), you pin the fabric in two even halves around the boot, cut that out, sew up the edges, and glue down. Sounds easy? Well I mean it is, but I not as easy as I thought.

The first time, I tried to do it with the heel as part of the boot. I couldn't get the thing to sit right at all... So I chopped the heel off of the sewn-together boot cover and made a separate heel cover. But not before I realized I might as well add gold trim to match the whole outfit! So I made a small length of matching trim with the leftover gold spandex I had (gold tights in a previous life!) and some adhesive interfacing. I ironed the gold edges under, which stuck together like magic with the fusible interfacing, for a clean line. Then! Sandwiched the edge of the boot cover with this trim and sewed along the outer line.

Ok! So I have boot covers. With gold trim. BUT! Then I realized I didn't have enough slack at the bottom, so I cut and sewed an extension on both boot covers. I should have tested the first one, because it still wasn't right. So THEN I chopped all of THAT off and made a whole new bottom that was too much material. Man. This is a lesson in not rushing and not double checking your work before you cut. :/

So I glued down the heel cover to the heel with hot glue, after removing more of the original shoe exterior with my dremel buffer. Then I sewed the new bottom to the existing top. With it being too big, I was able to mark where the actual sole this time directly onto the inside of the fabric. Yeah, much better! Since I was working with a fabric that wants to unravel, I sewed the bottom seam under for a clean, secure line.

THEN, finally, I attached the bottom of the fabric to the bottom line of the shoe with contact cement, just along where the shoe meets the sole. SUCCESS. Oh my gosh, this took way longer than I meant. Whoops. And it's still got flaws that I see now that I've accomplished it. But you know what? It's a vast improvement all the same, so I can deal with it. Now my whole boot matches the Hannah outfit, and I can ditch the good-enough knee socks I wore with the boots before.

Small note to people who add this to their favourites ... I freely share the tutorials. In return, the only thing I ask is that you do the same. Bottom line: block me from viewing your stuff, and I'll return the favour

Take the lower left edge of the top flap (where you see the coloured side peaking through) and fold it to the center, like so.

Turn the flap to the right, like the page of a book. Turn again. Fold both bottom edges up to center. Do this on every flap with colour showing.
