Herman is back from his winter slumber. He has grown a bit and seems to be in great health. We estimate he is about 4 years old now (give or take).
He is an aspiring swimwear and aquarium model. I have been asked what the "D" in his name stands for. In this particular case... it is for "Devastatingly Handsome".

Tonight for the first time since I saw it in 1990, I watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the big screen. In March 1990, I was a couple months shy of my 6th birthday. I sat in a theatre with my dad and younger brother, a few rows back from my older brother and his friends, for his birthday…so we didn’t embarrass him. As every kid in that theatre, I fell in love with the film. It was beyond what I could have even hoped for. The movie still holds up. While I’ve seen it probably 100 times now, I thought it might be fun to go celebrate the 35th anniversary. I see MAYBE one movie in the theatre a year. And I never pay. I got so used to going for free when I worked at Regal Cinema as a kid. And for years after, I still knew employees who would hook me up. Then I basically stopped going altogether. Movies today are just not worth it. And even the ones I do wanna see, I’d rather watch it in the comfort of my home on my 75 inch television. Today when a movie comes out that I actually feel like seeing, my cousin is the manager of our local theatre, so she kindly hooks me up. So the two times I saw this on the big screen, I didn’t pay. Thanks Dad and Chelsey.
The theatre barely had any people in it, and yet, they somehow managed to still be annoying. I knew this going in, especially with a classic film, you’re gonna have people talking and quoting. I sat next to a super annoying couple, forcefully laughing at any little line or joke. And then talking or drumming when music cues were played. I had to ask them to PLEASE be quiet. “I know you’ve seen the movie. We all have. Please be quiet”. Anyway…..
The movie was one of my most important childhood memories. There’s almost nothing I don’t love about it. No other Ninja Turtle movie has come CLOSE to recapturing the brilliance of it. Steve Barron’s direction, the voice actor choices, the cinematography, score, the soundtrack, the incredible special effects and animatronics by the Henson Creature Shop, the dark action, comedy, and the heart. So much heart. I will forever love this little independent movie.
Cowabunga, dudes!
