EXPLORE: September 30. Whenever there's a lot of rain in my neighborhood, we see turtles passing through the front yard. I suspect they are coming from the wetland area down the road and are moving to higher ground? I have no idea. I'm happy to have them pass through and to stay as long as they like. This was a turtle that I rescued off the side of the road. Luckily he was quite friendly and even modeled for me before running back into the bay.

Saw this little guy just chilling on a rock in a pond. There were several turtles sitting on them in the ponds throughout the park.
Red-eared slider Turtles:
The red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) (Br. Eng Red-eared terrapin) is
a semiaquatic turtle belonging to the family Emydidae. It is a subspecies of pond
slider. It is the most popular pet turtle in the United States and also popular in
the rest of the world. It is native only to the southern United States and northern
Mexico, but has become established in other places because of pet releases
and has become an invasive species in many introduced areas, such as California,
where it outcompetes the native western pond turtle.

European turtle dove (Streptopelia turtur) in beautiful light.
I usually delete images with subjects over empty skies, they're just that dull. But this was worth editing, I guess. The dark patches in the sky are foreground out of focus tree branches.
A grim discovery near Lockhart River in far north Queensland of a poached green sea turtle. This species is threatened and there were the remains of at least half a dozen other turtles in the immediate vicinity. A cane toad, highly invasive and damaging to endemic wildlife, had taken up residence underneath a carapace to add to the unfortunate scene.
I swam ahead of this turtle in hopes that he would swim towards me rather then away. I got lucky and it looks like he wanted to hang out and say hi.
The guys at Pulau Tenggol would place all the baby turtles after hatching into a big plastic tub until they are of a certain size. Then they would free them into the sea. Great conservation work!
This big guy was crossing the road so we stopped for a photo!! He looked so old with moss growing all over his shell & his paw/foot was all mangled. At first we thought he might be a snapping turtle but I think he's a painted turtle. Hope you all have a great weekend, stay safe!!
