In the market in Iquitos, we saw so many turtle waiting to be bought to be eaten. It was so sad to me because I love turtles, but I guess when it comes down to survival and cultural practice it isn't bad to them.

The turtle was reticent to talk to us.

After laying down a few feet from this gal she opened her mouth nice and wide (not sure if it was a threat display or if she was just stretching her jaw). She quickly realized I wasn’t that much of a threat and and decided I wasn’t worth her time, and went on her way.

A turtle, three workmen, a dog and I. What do we have in common? We were all in the same place doing different things.

near Tampa Florida, I saved its life. It was in the road and I picked it up and moved it off the road. it went into its shell when i picked it up.

Gilbert the turtle who lives in our loungeroom. He is such an attention whore. He loves it when people walk into the room.

The eastern snapping turtle's tail is typically about the length of half of its carapace (shell). However, juvenile's tails are longer than their carapaces.

Turtles sunning themselves in the middle of the Eno River (Durham, NC). Taken near the Cox Mountain Trail in the Eno River State Park.

This is a Stinkpot Turtle photo taken at Tuckahoe State Park on The Lore Of the Land Nature trail . They are a kind of Mud turtle . They can excrete a foul smelling liquid and live in Streams and Creeks .

Entangled in a fishing net, Maury the hawksbill turtle swims towards a bleached coral reef in search of a tasty meal. To Maury's dismay the tempting jellyfish and sea sponges are deadly plastic bags and polystyrene foam.

 

Every piece of plastic in this display, once discarded, ended up on an ocean beach.
