this week in 52 weeks we had the theme of "water." i had some creative ideas in mind, and even attempted a couple of them, but felt they could be improved upon. and besides, i just thought this one was pretty funny. since we're in the middle of a looong, blazing heat wave, i've been taking the dogs swimming first thing in the morning. the past couple of days, by the time we leave the river around 10:00 it's already near 100 degrees and incredibly humid! needless to say, i was way out in the water when i took this shot... the heat has convinced me to take the plunge too, jellies and snakes and all!!

i went back and checked and about 11 or 12 of june's photos so far have involved water... so i feel like i sort of cheated with this challenge...

The small houses on the outskirts of Humahuaca all have the faces of Tupac Amaru and Che Guevara on their facades. Northern Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru and even Equador used to be the stronghold of the mighty Inca Empire up until about until about the late 1500s. Tupac Amaru was their last leader. The Spanish crushed the empire and left years of hardship on the indigenous people that still exists today. As evident by these houses, these people are still proud of their past and the various leaders who resisted imperialism.

Tupak Shakur was born in June 1971 in New York he was a Rapper songwriter actor On September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot four times by an unidentified assailant in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas; he died six days later. Excellent painting by Israeli artist Benzi Brofman. This can be found on the bridge in Brick Lane London

Another old street portrait which I am re-uploading. This man stopped me on the street, asked me to take his picture and then asked for two dollars "to make it to the next stoplight." He called himself Tupac. I only noticed the hospital band on his wrist when someone commented on Flickr.
