First time I had been to Wednesday late opening at Bodnant. I thought it would be quiet. Some hope! Must choose a rainy day next time. I sat waiting for the Laburnum arch to be free of folk but there was a photographer at the far end with a camera on a red mini tripod in view even though he or she was sitting on a bench out of frame. In the end I gave up and cloned it out in this shot. Second outing with the 16-35 F4L - is a quite awesome lens and better than the 17-40 L. I could have metered this better as, even in the evening, contrast is an issue if there is sunlight. There is movement in the petals unfortunately so it looks unsharp. Been wasting lots of ink today trying to get the yellow to print acceptably.
Out on display for the public, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust cares for orphaned baby elephants. Here they have just had a feeding, and are socializing with their peers, as well as the public.

Stella was in dogs trust for 6 weeks, in this time I fell in love with her. She had a terrible skin condition which has now fully cleared up after living in a comfortable home and eating a good diet! Stella brightens up my world, she is always so happy to greet us and loves going out for walks which gets me out of the house and exercising. How can you resist that waggy tail which brings a smile to your face no matter what kind of day you have had!

Erddig, Wrexham - 252.06ha (622.85acres) A late 17th century house, containing much of the furniture and textiles supplied for it in the 1720s, with an early 18th century formal garden. The magnificent state bedroom is decorated in the Chinese taste. An unusually rich history of master/servant relations includes a servants' hall with 18th century portraits of estate and household staff and there is a complete range of outbuildings with smithy, joiner's shop and bakery still in operation. The property was extensively restored in 1973-77 following severe mining subsidence. Given in 1973 with an extensive area of land, by Mr P.S.Yorke.

Stourhead is famous for once housing the most magnificent Pelargonium collection on the planet. The National Trust is now trying to restore as many varieties as possible. The Pelargonium House itself is gorgeous to any Horticulturalist!

All three women face towards the right, two hold a staff and one holds a lyre. They process towards a small statue on a column on the right hand side of the scene, possibly a statue of Apollo. A plaster cast either taken from a Roman marble panel, or a late eighteenth century relief in the classical style. Possibly acquired by John Frederick Sackville, 3rd Duke of Dorset (1745-1799).
The Orangery, which now forms the south range of Green Court, was created in 1823 at the direction of Arabella Cope, widow of the 3rd Duke of Dorset, and her second husband, Lord Whitworth. It was converted from a much earlier space in an effort to bring an element of the Gothic Revival style, so popular at the beginning of the 19th century, to Knole.
The Orangery may have been planned as a gallery for the display of Classical sculptures as well as plants. An extensive collection of bas-reliefs, inscriptions and sculpture, both antique marble pieces and much later plaster casts, is fixed to the interior walls of the Orangery and may have been part of Cope and Whitworth’s original presentation of the building. They are mentioned in John Brady’s 1839 The Visitors Guide to Knole and may have been sourced from the Continent specifically for display here. Photographs reveal that by the mid-20th century the Orangery was used for the storage of other kinds of objects too. A black and white photo from 1945 shows the three-tiered Buzaglo stove, which dates to 1774 and previously stood in the Great Hall, had been moved to the Orangery. Before it was opened to the public in 2010, the Orangery was used for garden storage.
