The secret ideals which have nourished in the American Indian, a unique character among the peoples of the earth.
It's simplicity, it's reverence, it's bravery and uprightness must be left to make their own appeal to the American of today, who is the inheritor of our homes, our names, and our traditions.
Since there is nothing left us but remembrance, at least let that remembrance be just!

If you're ever near Andover, then a visit to the Hawk Conservancy Trust is strongly recommended. The flying displays are spectacular and masterpieces of showmanship. The staff clearly love and respect the birds and the place is beautifully laid out. The bald eagles flew in on a signal from a very distant perch. Earlier, we'd been ducking to avoid collisions with the vulture flying display team ;) We visited on a Bank Holiday with friends who live nearby and it was very busy but it coped well with the numbers. I'd have loved to get some shots, though, that weren't poking through gaps in the crowd. The Trust offers days dedicated to photographers. Might be worth the investment, but a trip on a less crowded day would probably be good, too.
Tatton Park is a vast estate near Knutsford and hosts an annual RHS flower show. As parkland it is the lungs of Greater Manchester, and some important conservation work is undertaken, but as a garden concept, or design, overseen by the National Trust, it lacks character and appears rather municipal. This ancient topiary, near the walled vegetable garden, is the only really interesting area.

It is my junior year, 1978, when disco and Rocky movies are the cultural rage. We are in an unusual sociology class at Brandeis, something Morrie calls "Group Process." Each week we study the ways in which the students in the group interact with one another, how they respond to anger, jealousy, attention. We are human lab rats. More often than not, someone ends up crying. I refer to it as the "touchy-feely" course. Morrie says I should be more open-minded.
On this day, Morrie says he has an exercise for us to try. We are to stand, facing away from our classmates, and fall backward, relying on another student to catch us. Most of us are uncomfortable with this, and we cannot let go for more than a few inches before stopping ourselves. We laugh in embarrassment.
Finally, one student, a thin, quiet, dark-haired girl whom I notice almost always wears bulky white fisherman sweaters, crosses her arms over her chest, closes her eyes, leans back, and does not flinch, like one of those Lipton tea commercials where the model splashes into the pool.
For a moment, I am sure she is going to thump on the floor. At the last instant, her assigned partner grabs her head and shoulders and yanks her up harshly.
"Whoa!" several students yell. Some clap. Morrie finally smiles.
"You see," he says to the girl, "you closed your eyes. That was the difference.
Sometimes you cannot believe what you see, you have to believe what you feel. And if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them, too--even when you're in the dark. Even when you're falling."

Deep in my heart I hear you calling
But I won't let you in
I'm so afraid that I'll keep on losing
but you're whispering
Trust in me
Love me

Many Chartres sculptures are said to be Masonic or pagan or Middle Eastern in origin. Here, a woman receiving advice from a dragon - dragons symbolised earth energy, and the presence of the creature and a scroll supposedly means the woman had access to restricted knowledge.
My life changed suddenly and dramatically a year ago when my dad died unexpectedly. The last year has been difficult in many ways, but I also know I've grown as a person and have a clearer vision of where I want my path in life to lead. This weekend I created a new self-portrait to help express some of my feelings on this first 'anniversary.' The portrait demonstrates the increased trust, belief, and faith in myself I've earned by dealing with so much more than I'd ever imagined during the past year.

I'm not sure exactly what happened here. I only caught this out of the corner of my eye but it appeared as though this Burner fell off this piece backwards and was caught by friends. Trust fall style. Maybe she fainted.
