At first light the Northern Harrier treated me to a close-up portrait. The only other times I've seen her perched was behind a chain-link fence.

I kept my distance, didn't get in her comfort zone, and took many shots from different angles. It's a good feeling when a raptor trusts you.

Baddesley Clinton is a moated manor house, located just north of the historic town of Warwick in the English county of Warwickshire; the house was probably established during the 13th century when large areas of the Forest of Arden were cleared and eventually converted to farmland. The site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and the Hall is a Grade I listed building.

A quick peek at a series I have started shooting for a National Trust project.

These images were taken on a trip home to Devon, where I managed to rally together some wonderful volunteers to model for me! A huge thank you to everyone involved, and apologies for muddied feet and rain frizzed hair!

Inspirations and recreations include Tim Walker, The Selby, Lucia O'Connor Mccarthy, Eleanor Hardwick and Ellie Goulding.

We had stayed the night in Buckingham and the evening would find us at Arundel. National Trust Stowe Gardens was mid way (ish) - sadly no flower gardens, but lots of parklands. Stowe House is not National Trust but is separate...

For the pedants the Octagon Lake most definitely did not look Octagonal, so I have no idea why it is called that, perhaps Uncle Google will help....

Maybe it used to be an Octagonal Pond? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stowe_House

"In March 1741, Capability Brown was appointed head gardener. He worked with Gibbs until 1749 and with Kent until the latter's death in 1748. Brown departed in the autumn of 1751 to start his independent career as a garden designer. In these years, Bridgeman's octagonal pond and 11-acre (4.5 ha) lake were extended and given a "naturalistic" shape..."

... making the familiar racket ...

Woody knows, despite my advice

Baddesley Clinton is a remarkable survivor of a medieval moated manor house and was home to the Ferrers family for 500 years. At one time an artists' retreat, at another a haven for the persecuted, the house nevertheless passed from father to son for 12 generations before finally being sold in 1940.

The gatehouse entrance makes Baddesley one of the most visually pleasing architectural ensembles in England, with its combination of bridge, moat and crenelated gatehouse and with its stonework and windows of several different periods.
