I like to think that if you can find yourself so completely naked and exposed to another being yet feel completely safe, accepted, and loved as you are then you've found something priceless. When it comes to that bond, its as close to perfect as can be. There is an absolute trust; unshakeable and powerful yet so pure and beautiful. This is your safe place; a place you can truly be yourself where your souls speak and no words are needed.

Recently I realized his life project, what he was trying to tell me....took me a long time but I did. The circles and the lines, the life trails. Smaller circles inside larger circles, circles that osculate, lines that intersect, lines with parallel traces...meeting points, shapes, forever moving, forever changing. He showed me, but I could not see then. Now, I need an eternity to digest it. Please, can you stop and think about it for a minute, can you focus? Can you put these pieces in order? The sunshine in your eyes, a random touch, the way you can see behind the walls I put in front of me, the inconvenient silence, the whispers floating above our heads, the tears-these tiny rivers of relief, the empty words and the words with endless meanings-can you really distinguish? You know, my real self wanders somewhere far away from here and all these lines, all these circles are papercuts on its skin. We all carry our cross, but some carry crosses made of silk-it's not so easy to bleed this way, especially when you stand inbetween. Still, I do believe in wonders, I do believe that a flame can burn inside an iceberg. But if I could put it down in words I wouldn't take photos, if I could write poems I wouldn't keep this imaginary diary. It is obvious for you, isn't it? I know you can decode it, I know you can burn down this labyrinth, I know you can take me by the hand and lead me to the exit. I trust you.
It took us half an hour to earn his trust. First came a she, who hesitated. She went and brought her mate/friend who showed more valor and courage.

Catching up on my photos from our Cornwall trip in March as Monday is always my gardening day @ Home & never go out. This is National Trusts Godolphin house. Most not open to public & used as holiday appartments. Gardens are kept in the format of when the house was the centre of a large mining estate
A tiny section of Knole just to show the concentration of building work within it's itself .
Knole feels almost weighed down by its own history – six centuries of it. People are often impressed by all the absolutes of Knole: its enormous size, the number of rooms, its completeness. But those who live, work and visit here love its quiet dignity, its almost melancholy feel – the grandeur has passed but its old, glinting beauty remains.
What we see today is a remarkably preserved and complete early Jacobean remodelling of a medieval archiepiscopal palace. From an even older manor house, it was built and extended by the Archbishops of Canterbury after 1456. It then became a royal possession during the Tudor dynasty when Henry VIII hunted here and Elizabeth I visited.
From 1603, Thomas Sackville made it the aristocratic treasure house for the Sackville family, who were prominent and influential in court circles. Knole's showrooms were designed to impress visitors and to display the Sackville family’s wealth and status.
Over more than 400 years, his descendants rebuilt and then furnished Knole in two further bursts of activity. First, at the end of the 17th century, when the 6th Earl acquired Stuart furniture and textiles from royal palaces, and again at the end of the 18th century, with the 3rd Duke's art collection.
The Sackvilles gradually withdrew into the heart of the house, leaving many rooms unused and treasures covered. This helps to explain the relative lack of modernisation at Knole (central heating was never installed in the showrooms, for example) and the survival of its collections.
Knole has been welcoming visitors to see its splendours and curiosities for centuries. We know that visitors have followed the same route as you do today for at least the last 400 years.
There's a popular myth that Knole is a calendar house - with 365 rooms, 52 staircases, 12 entrances and 7 courtyards. While fascinating, the reality is that it all depends on how you count the rooms and Knole is such a large, rambling estate that it would be impossible to say for certain.
When the National Trust acquired the house in 1946, the majority of the rooms were leased back to the Sackville family, with the Trust retaining the more formal spaces. The 7th Baron Sackville and his family still live at Knole today in private apartments.
Now, visitors can experience so many different parts of Knole, from the grand showrooms to the cosy Gatehouse Tower, the tranquil Orangery to the sweeping parkland. Discover the vast estate and all it has to offer, home to a world-class collection of portraits and furniture, a state-of-the-art conservation studio and a wild deer herd. There really is something for everyone at Knole.

Sky sat down beside his friends and blew out his cheeks then sat back and relaxed, closing his eyes.
“What is wrong Sky?” Asked Bertie.
“Nothing, I have just been learning so much from Harrod about hoomans. I had no idea.”
“Well, she is very knowledgeable Sky, she has lived with them for a lot more sleeps than both of us put together.” Replied Bertie nodding his head.
“What did she have to say about them, Sky?” Asked Posh Bear.
“Well, it all started when I was telling some other bears about what we were saying about the man’s cooking, and in particular about the buns he made. I thought the story was going down quite well, and then Harrod interrupted me and said, to listen and learn.”
“Well, you do go on a bit at times Sky. What did she tell you?” Asked Bertie.
“She, said it was wrong for us bears to say upsetting things about any hooman and then she explained why that was so. Harrod explained that there has always been a great love between hoomans and bears or fluffy friends ever since the first bear was made. Harrod said hoomans trusted us with the most valuable and precious things they will ever have, that being their children and grandchildren. We are nearly always their first toy and friend, the one thing they can cuddle and snuggle with in their cribs. It is an enormous responsibility for us bears to be allowed to be so close and become so loved by such a small and innocent hooman. Harrod was quite angry, or at least seemed to me to be so, she said that it was our duty to return the love and the trust that hoomans gave us and not to speak badly of them even when they were a bit bonkers.”
“Harrod did have a lot to say, was that all?” Asked Bertie.
“No Bertie, she went on about it being our duty to look after our hooman, to always be there to give them a hug or cuddle and that it was wrong to ever pass on, any conversations we have with them. Sometimes, so Harrod says, hoomans can get stressed out and need a hug and an ear to listen to them and that we must always be there at that time and what we hear never goes any further.”
“She is perfectly right Sky; I have told you that before many times. It is a very special privilege to belong to a hooman, especially a loving hooman. It is also never our job to make judgements about what we have been told in secret, we accept what they say and give them the love and courage they are searching for.” Said Posh nodding his head wisely.
“That is what Harrod said Posh. She explained that most of us bears that live here once belonged to a rather special lady who loved the man and trusted him. Well, when she got sick, she didn’t want anything bad to happen to us bears and so she entrusted us to him. That is why we are all very special to him and Harrod said that’s why he doesn’t mind us ordering honey and stuff without asking.”
“I do so agree with Harrod, Sky, as you are already aware, I never did know the lady that most of you guys lived with, for I was sent as a present direct from a shop one Christmas. While I was sitting on a shelf in the shop, I used to watch the hoomans come and go and I wondered why so many of them looked so unhappy. They seemed harassed, under some kind of pressure that us bears just don’t feel. I felt sorry for them and wanted to reach my paws out and give them a hug. Hoomans may be a touch bonkers in their thinking at times, but most are okay when you get to know them.” Said Bertie.
“I know you would have loved the lady, Bertie; she was kind of special in my eyes anyway. I can remember late one evening, and I know she would be happy me repeating this to another bear, we were all sitting outside watching the golden thing in the sky go down. The sky was reddish and the air warm, she looked around at us bears and explained that the big golden, red thing in the sky was the land of honey and very soon she would be going there and then she would feel no more pain. She said that each and every one of us would one day join her there to enjoy the golden honey that we all desire. The following day we were all put in her tin box on wheels and brought to the man and she asked us to look after him for her, but one day when the time is right, we’ll all meet up again and it will be perfect.” Said Posh.
Sky looked at his two friends before he spoke.
“Posh, do you think that big thing in the sky is really made from honey, or was she just a bit bonkers, but in a nice way?” said Sky.
“I don’t know Sky; I think it best we wait and find out. Let us enjoy today, and not be in any hurry for we have enough good honey here and even if he is bonkers some of the time, it could be a lot worse job we have to do.” laughed Posh Bear.
Sky and Bertie licked their lips and looked at their friend hoping that a jar of that golden goodness would soon be opened and shared out amongst them.
None of us knows what might happen even the next minute, yet still we go forward. Because we trust. Because we have Faith. - Paulo Coelho
Created for the Self Portrait Sunday theme "Trust".
“If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together, there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart.. I'll always be with you.”
I know that I should have tried such techniques before, but for some reason this was my first attempt at a photo merge. Two bracketed shots were taken of the priory, one over exposed and one under. Given the time of day and the fading light I feel that this merge is a true representation of the light at the time.
I should consider myself lucky to live just a couple of miles from Nostell. It is a location and estate that we take for granted, but a most worthwhile visit. This house was built in 1733 on the site of a much older priory and house and since 1953 it has been in the care of the National Trust. I'm not particularly interested in old furniture, however for those interested the house has a superb collection of Chippendale furniture that was made for the Winn family (the long time owners of the house and estate).
It takes a lot of patience, but it's well worth it! My friend(or so I'd like to think)....the red fox.
As promised , a wider view of Knole taking in the jumble of walls , roofs , chimneys , windows and so on . I did say that there was an unsightly builders trailer in the way but I had it towed away - well at least got lucky with the retouch tool !!
