Historian and author Joel Helander of Guilford presented the biography of Captain Oliver N. Brooks, a distinguished captain during the heyday of the Long Island Sound coastal trade, as well as the Faulkner Island lightkeeper from 1851 to 1882.

A true 1950s Tilling atmosphere is re-created in this view of former Southern Vectis post-war Bristol K 721 dating from 1947, Bristol Lodekka LD 563 dating from 1959 and Bedford OB coach 216 painted in its smart Tilling cream livery as applied when the vehicle was delivered new to Southern Vectis back in 1949. On the right of the photo can be seen part of Moss Motors' Duple Vega bodied Bedford SB3 coach ODL 400 painted in the smart and attractive 1950s Moss Motors two-tone blue livery, where back in the 1950s and 1960s Moss Motors of Sandown worked alongside Southern Vectis rather than as a competitor as by that time Southern Vectis had purchased many of the smaller coach operators on the Island, thus giving Southern Vectis a monopoly of the Island's bus and coach services. On the left of the photo can be seen the cab of the former Southern Vectis AEC Matador recovery truck 004 (GXX 785) which is now used as a recovery vehicle for rescuing any stricken members of the Isle of Wight Bus Museum's preserved buses or coaches on running days or other special events.

The True Diversity Dinner was sponsored by several Alaska bloggers and information lists who had been active in the summer 2009 fight for the Anchorage equal rights ordinance A) 2009-64. After the ordinance passed but was then vetoed by Mayor Dan Sullivan, we decided to hold the dinner as an alternative to the Mayor's Unity Dinner (renamed from what used to by the Mayor's Diversity Dinner), because, we decided, "we all deserve a seat at the table."
