Likely the most filthy road locomotive I ever photographed is Rio Grande EMD SD40T-2 No. 5392 leading a coal empty past milepost 178 at the old station of Park between Edna and Sidney, Colorado on the Craig Branch on September 9, 1992. If it’s not the filthiest, it’s up there anyway. I’ve seen Montana Rail Link and Rio Grande helper sets this dirty—I can only assume that No. 5390, along with the two trailing Rio Grande units, are blackened from being in helper service through all those tunnels. Maybe the wash rack at Burnham is broken. Or maybe it’s just Southern Pacific influence on Rio Grande power. Either way, the train didn’t shine in the morning sun.

The True Grit of Dartmoor, as the Sun goes down behind Great Staple Tor it sends a lovely little Sunburst through a gap in the Huge Granite Rocks, with so much Myth and Legend, Dartmoor has to be one of my favourite places, and this one of my many favourite Tors to photograph.
With the Wildlife now easing off for me I shall be getting my eye back in on the Land/Seascapes over the next month or so, having said that I have hundreds of Wildlife pics to post so will be trying to keep my photostream content varied for all that follow my ramblings :)

Tortoiseshell Butterfly
The Tortoiseshell Butterfly is known for its vibrant and striking coloration. It typically features orange and black patterns on its wings, with hints of blue and white spots, making it easily recognizable.
Tortoiseshell Butterflies primarily feed on nectar from flowers such as thistles and buddleia. Their caterpillars mainly consume nettles, which is why these butterflies are commonly found in areas where nettles grow abundantly.
Let's be honest, the real gamers out there have rooms that look like this. That is actually what my trash can looks like. LOL
Larinus planus is a species of true weevil. It is used as an agent of biological pest control against the noxious weed Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense).
The adult weevil is dark brown or black with light colored mottled hairs on its body. It is about 7-8 millimeters long.
This weevil is native to Central and Eastern Europe. It was first accidentally introduced to the United States in the 1960s. The first published record is from Maryland in 1971. Postel, Belgium (wollige distelsnuitkever)

Hind wings are very thin, about half the wavelength of blue light!
The tip of the forewing of Heteroptera is fairly thick (~1.2 microns), thus there is no color iridescence visible (brown curve). The base is even thicker and leathary. This is the origin of the name "hemiptera" which means "half-winged". The newer name Heteroptera means also "mixed-wings". This leads to the typical "X" structure of the closed wings in dorsal view, which is an easy means to identify "true" bugs.
Hind wings in contrast, are much thinner (~0.2 microns here), which leads to a brillant blue-violett if illuminated coaxially.
