"A lot of life boils down to the question of whether a person is going to be able to realize his fantasies, or else end up surviving only through compromises he can't face up to. The way I figure it, Heaven and Hell are right here on Earth. Heaven is living in your hopes and Hell is living in your fears. It's up to each individual which one he chooses."
excerpt from "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" by Tom Robbins
I met Trip when I was in Mainland a few years ago. He is a reporter for the Australian Newspaper Bon Voyage. He is a great friend and came here to write an article about island living, the good, the bad and the ugly ;)
I recently spent a few days in Fort Worth attending the annual Lexington Group meeting. The Metroplex continues to grow at a fantastic rate. Along with that has been the expansion of commuter and light rail service. In past years. I've ridden the TRE commuter line between Dallas and Fort Worth and some of the Dallas light rail lines.
On this trip, I wanted to concentrate my efforts on two new commuter rail lines: TEXRail and the DART Silver Line.
TEXRail opened on January 10, 2019, and the Silver Line began operations on October 25, 2025. Both lines operate out of DFW Airport Terminal B. TEXRail goes 27 miles west on former Cotton Belt rails to the Fort Worth T&P Station, but it seems most passengers get on and off at the Fort Worth Central Station, which is just north of the old Union Station. The Silver Line also uses the former Cotton Belt and runs 26 miles northeast out of DFW to Shiloh Road in Plano, north of Dallas. Both of these lines are planning expansions.
In this image, TEXRail and Silver Line trains pose at the stub-end DFW Terminal B Station. If you are bound for Fort Worth, take TEXRail. My fare was only about $1.50 with a senior discount. If you are destined for Dallas, board a light rail train at Terminal A.
My main complaint is that there is no signage in the airport directing one to the trains. I mentioned this to TEXRail (Trinity Metro) CEO Richard Andrewski and he was fully aware of the problem and is working to get that resolved.

Late summer and early autumn are the perfect time for a day trip. Today, we visited one of the many apple orchards, as well as a winery, brewery, and a few farm stands.
Hanoi is a very vibrant city, full of life, vendors, scooters, and in transition. I don't do a lot of b&w, but I felt that it suited this scene, as the colours, while fun and vibrant, took away from the scene.

Road Trip !! It's time once again "to boldly go . . . " A big El Nino is still building. Soon enough, these roads will be subject to flash flooding, wash-outs, mudslides and closures. New postings to these pages are temporarily on hold while the proprietor seeks refuge from crackpot politicians.

One of the crazier chases of the 2016 monsoon for me last night/early this morning. A lone storm was going off near Quartzsite, so I kept blasting west only to see cells explode everywhere, which was super exciting. As my buddy Chris Frailey and I neared Brenda, AZ...the lightning was all over and we just had about 6 miles to go to get on the west side and have tons of epic bolts to shoot.
And that's when the freeway came to a complete halt. A lane merger ahead slowed us down for 30 minutes. By the time we got to Quartzsite, pouring rain and hail was falling. I raced south along the US 95, sketchy because of it being so flash flood prone, and go into open air finally and for about five minutes we had bolts landing close by and then it was over for the night.
We headed back to town after and saw an incredible flash flood that halted Interstate 10, left a dumpster on one of the lanes (see below) and turned the night into a lot of fun!
Here's one of the few bolts I captured and I'm pretty fortunate to have gotten it at all. Those are the Trigo Mountains I believe southwest of Quartzsite.
The lightning this week has been intense, hoping it pays off again this evening!

The photography trip is a selfish journey whose narrative is embedded in the reflexivity of its images.
We should distinguish trip art from everyday art. Our skills, intuition, and luck can yield decent, spontaneous, everyday art. But this is all practice for the creative tornado of trip art.
Most have tripped, but fewer have realized it was happening. The trick is to go with the flow.
My photography trips have ranged from catastrophic to paranormal. On one extreme, I recall 3 hours in NYC at Times Square not getting one decent shot. On the other, I recall a roll of Fuji Velvia film on my Vivitar Ultra Wide & Slim trashcam, taken while driving randomly through Phoenix, that turned out to be one of my most rewarding photography moments.
The trip was planned, by circumstance and Mary’s grace. I didn’t know until afterwards that it started the day before, at Tio’s Taco’s. The recycled art of Martin Sanchez featured at Tio’s left me touched, inspired, and psyched. Never had I experienced a mashup of religious icons and kitsch like Martin’s.
And then, the Salton Sea.

My beloved Wolfgangsee... All my relatives and friends must have been tired of my endless stories about and trip to that place. At least the kids will probably look for another place for their next year’s main vacations. I don’t how long my passion will endure but so far it’s been the best place for me to go. Fully understanding that people have to work had everywhere for food, heating and gasoline, this place looks like paradise.
A day of this photo session was wrong. Too sunny, many pic overexposed. Place for these shots was also wrong: boat moving on the waves and most pics with wrong horizon line and other geometric drawbacks. And I actually thought I wouldn’t shoot it no more, but... Couldn’t keep my hands of my lovely Leica. So this was “almost whole” family electric boat trip from Sankt Wolfgang to Fuerberg bay, around 2 hours. That peace of the lake’s shore is the most beautiful because it is not only rich with architectural marvels, but also with the famous rock that once was used by Red Bull for diving event. But to me the most beautiful point there is a small tiny island with a chapel on. Unrepeatable beauty.
