Came to Hilton Garden Inn Seattle North on a Friday for a visit to the Trip Advisor ® Certificate of Excellence winning Future of Flight Museum, the Collings Foundation B-17 ride and the subsequent Saturday Flying Heritage Collection American Airpower Fly Day... very happy I did, got a lot of value for money for an avgeek vacation. The service was great, the sleep was legendary, the food tasted good and I was treated right.
See I came in off of a Skagit Transit County Connector + taxi connection to the hotel and was allowed to stash my bag until I could check into a suite. As documented in the photos, the suite was rather spacious and very clean. I had access to a microwave, coffee machine, refrigerator and a bathroom plus if I choose a nice desk.
Really, truly appreciate the great service from the complimentary shuttle from the hotel to Historic Flight for my B-17 ride. Since the comms to the shuttle to return me were fumbled and I had to wait, I received a complimentary fish & chips dinner. The fish was okay, the fries/chips were great as was the service in the hotel restaurant.
After more photo taking and a stop into the business center (no fee to use their computer to use the Internet briefly), I went up to my suite for the evening. The view from the hotel of the Boeing flightline and the Future of Flight was amazing. The adjustable sleep was so good my cell phone alarm didn't wake me, only the hotel wake-up call service (free) did eight plus hours later.
Decided to hop down to the restaurant for a small cup of coffee, a buttermilk pancake & bacon breakfast. The food was so good, I didn't stop to take a picture until well over half done with my meal.
Finally, I checked out of the hotel and after a $50 hold was released, I received a kind complimentary shuttle to the Flying Heritage Collection for their Fly Day. Took many great photos.
Overall, no issues with the hotel. Best of the best... please if you can, stay here and be kind to the staff.

Stirling Falls is one of permanent waterfalls on the Milford Sound. This one drops 155m below a hanging valley between mountains The Elephant and The Lion.
We left Queenstown to make our way to Milford Sounds. Stopped in Te Anau for morning tea and to buy some lunch for our day trip. We we will be staying at Te Anau for the night.

Day five of our fast trip around the South Island with my friends from the UK. November 5, 2013 New Zealand.
Milford Sound (Māori: Piopiotahi) is a fjord in the south west of New Zealand's South Island, within Fiordland National Park, Piopiotahi (Milford Sound) Marine Reserve, and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site. It has been judged the world's top travel destination in an international survey (the 2008 Travelers' Choice Destinations Awards by TripAdvisor) and is acclaimed as New Zealand's most famous tourist destination. Rudyard Kipling had previously called it the eighth Wonder of the World.
Milford Sound is named after Milford Haven in Wales, while the Cleddau River which flows into the sound is also named for its Welsh namesake. The Māori named the sound Piopiotahi after the thrush-like piopio bird, now extinct. Piopiotahi means "a single piopio", harking back to the legend of Māui trying to win immortality for mankind - when Maui died in the attempt, a piopio was said to have flown here in mourning.
Milford Sound runs 15 kilometres inland from the Tasman Sea at Dale Point (also named after a location close to Milford Haven in Wales) - the mouth of the fiord - and is surrounded by sheer rock faces that rise 1,200 metres (3,900 ft) or more on either side. Among the peaks are The Elephant at 1,517 metres (4,977 ft), said to resemble an elephant's head, and The Lion, 1,302 metres (4,272 ft), in the shape of a crouching lion.
Milford Sound sports two permanent waterfalls all year round, Lady Bowen Falls and Stirling Falls. After heavy rain however, many hundreds of temporary waterfalls can be seen running down the steep sided rock faces that line the fiord. They are fed by rain water drenched moss and will last a few days at most once the rain stops.
With a mean annual rainfall of 6,813 mm (268 in) on 182 days a year, a high level even for the West Coast, Milford Sound is known as the wettest inhabited place in New Zealand and one of the wettest in the world. Rainfall can reach 250 mm (10 in) during a span of 24 hours. The rainfall creates dozens of temporary waterfalls (as well as a number of major, more permanent ones) cascading down the cliff faces, some reaching a thousand metres in length. Smaller falls from such heights may never reach the bottom of the sound, drifting away in the wind.
Accumulated rainwater can, at times, cause portions of the rain forest to lose their grip on the sheer cliff faces, resulting in tree avalanches into the sound. The regrowth of the rain forest after these avalanches can be seen in several locations along the sound.

Figure I'd post these travel pictures to my Flickr at some point since I post to TripAdvisor. This is from my Feb. 2013 Winter Vacation to Seattle where I used the Seattle Courtyard by Marriott Lake Union hotel for home plate.
My review went as follows:
Great location & property: I really liked the view of Lake Union and although high winds kept Kenmore Air from flying the Friday of my stay, I was treated Saturday morning to a sight of rowboats rowing away on Lake Union. Sadly no picture.
Also is fabulous the transit connections. Wonderful that the streetcar - after a perilous walk across traffic (crosswalk please!) - is a 5-minute walk away. There is also a bus stop directly outside of the hotel, which between the two made it so I only needed one cab ride (due to inclement weather forbidding a walk) the entire two days & one night I was there. I highly recommend getting an ORCA Card ( www.orcacard.com/ ) and uploading an e-Purse value (I used $25, counting the $5 for the card) to get around because simply possessing one means the streetcar is free and using Google Local to help you plan bus system usage should be sufficient to getting around Seattle to see attractions like the Burke Museum and the Museum of Flight plus SeaTac Airport to/from this hotel. Trust me, you will save a lot of money and hassle by using transit + an ORCA card.
Great Staff: Every time I had a question (in no small part because the last time I stayed in a hotel was in June 2012), the staff patiently answered my questions and addressed my concerns from the hold to my bags to paying for breakfast and the like. I also didn't feel like I was staying at other hotels in Seattle in previous years where there was a game of "gotcha" trying to get a large hold off of my card. It was like staying at a certain hotel in Mukilteo I like very much...
Great Value for $: Well one of the reasons why I picked this hotel was not just because of the transit accessibility but also the price versus other downtown hotels. I did have to allow an additional $20 hold be placed on my debt card, but that covered breakfast + a soda + a candy bar. The quality for money overall was excellent.
Room Tip: Get an ORCA Card and also get a lakeside room if you want peace of mind.
And so here we are; the last day of the holiday, and all of Tokyo to explore and snap. And we don't have a scooby where to go. We had thought about it, looked on line, and 2nd most popular attraction on Tripadvisor was Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. And as we enjoyed the gardens at the Imperial Palace, we thought this might be a good idea.
We went down for breakfast at 07:10, and found the restaurant in the middle of the lobby packed, but somehow I managed to get a table for us. And seeing as this was more of an international place, breakfast had more of a European feel. The freshly baked rolls looked nice, still warm from baking, so I thought one would be fine with marmalade on. I cut it open only to find it part filled with blue cheese; and I wanted to have marmalade! Oh, what the heck, lets mix flavours, and it came out as being tasty!
I think one of the pleasures of staying in an international place like this hotel, as what people from different countries have for breakfast, and the hotel has to cater for most of them, as all would be impossible I suppose. Most people seem to think coffee is an important part of breakfast, and they would be right of course.
We got our stuff together, ready to brave the madness of the Metro for the first time in 10 days, our route planned; we set off.
Up to now we had seen subway trains with just standing room available, but this was the first time we had seen a train pull in with there no space whatsoever to get on. Some locals did push on, and we saw their faces squashed against the door's windows as the train pulled out. Thankfully, the next one was less full, and we did get one for the few stops before we had to change again.
We arrived at the station near the garden, and the security guard saw us looking at a map and told us to cross the road on street level and then turn right.
Which is what we did, along a shaded promenade walk to the main gate of the park, which only charged 200 Yen to get in. The walks were well signposted, and as we just wanted to see the Japanese garden, we set off through the woods for it. Also in the park were dozens of school parties, all very young children, who had come for some nature-based activities and then a packed lunch.
I suppose what we had hoped for was something akin to the garden at the Imperial Palace, with flowers, insects and ponds. But here there was a pond or two, bridges and paths leading through them, but it lacked the wow factor of the Imperial Palace, and out of blossom season is "just a park". I say that as there isn't a lot of green spaces in downtown Tokyo, but this gives a chance to escape the crowds and have some quiet time, walking through garden or over the grass, maybe have a picnic.
We pause for a cool drink from a vending machine and an ice cream from the small shop.
It was darn hot, so darned hot that by half eleven, we decided not to go to the English garden, which might have been the wrong decision, but then again, it was our holiday, so we get to do what we want.
I was trying to write my blogs out before we left, or at least get the first week written before we left, so I said I would like to spend some time in the hotel with the view, radio and air conditioning on, writing. Jen said she would like to do some last minute shopping and Jools wanted to go back to Beadtown. So it was set, we took the metro back, then walked via a huge subway past shops and yet more vending machines until we came to the correct exit for the hotel.
The afternoon slipped past, I wrote, Jools and Jen shopped. I was writing away when I heard a noise at the window, only to see two blokes cleaning the window via a gondolier. They didn't notice me, and within 15 seconds had moved on to another floor. Just enough time to rattle off a shot or two of them! Always have a camera handy!
Jools came back at something like four, and I needed a drink, so we go down to reception and in the same bar where I had drunk the whisky the night before, they presented me with the cocktail menu. I had always though that Jools would like a White Russian, so I order two, happy that if she didn't like it, I would be able to finish it. Which is what happened. We sat in the bar, chatting to the manager about Tokyo, visitors and the difference between Americans and Brits, and that we may speak the same language but we rarely mean the same thing! He smiled.
Reflected in the building opposite were the colours of sunset. We went round to the other side of the lobby to look and were treated to a wonderful site; the sky was all oranges and reds with the city beginning to light up, and the iconic Tokyo Tower centre. But best of all, on the horizon, poking through some thin clouds was the silhouette of Mt Fuji. And that, seeing the volcano on the very last sunset of the trip, we had crossed the last thing to see off the list. And what a fine end to the holiday. But not quite the end, as there was dinner to seek out.
Jen came down, and we went hunting for dinner. Or somewhere to have it at least. We had in mind more shabu-shabu, and we were sure that we could find somewhere serving that near to the hotel. But then Tokyo seems to be the most people unfriendly place on earth, at least at first. It is all so bewildering, passages and stairways leading in all directions.
We wandered aimlessly, pointing out places that clearly were selling food. But not looking too special, and we felt that the last night should be special.
Down in the subway, we saw an ad for "sky high dining"; eating whilst looking at the city far below sounded wonderful, so went up.
In a place named after Oregon State, we were given a table right by the picture window, with views to a railway station surrounded by skyscrapers. It was perfect. Instead of shabu-shabu, which what had been planned, we had steak, and wine. It was glorious, a fine end to the holiday, the city laid out for our enjoyment before us. Maybe not the best nor cheapest steak in the world, or the city. But with views like that, it hardly mattered.
It has to come to an end of course, and this now had, the final curtain rushed towards us just as we were getting used to Japan. But, we came, saw and enjoyed ourselves. But I yearned to go home, see the cats, have some tea, and just be home in our little piece of England.
There's always next time I suppose.

And so here we are; the last day of the holiday, and all of Tokyo to explore and snap. And we don't have a scooby where to go. We had thought about it, looked on line, and 2nd most popular attraction on Tripadvisor was Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. And as we enjoyed the gardens at the Imperial Palace, we thought this might be a good idea.
We went down for breakfast at 07:10, and found the restaurant in the middle of the lobby packed, but somehow I managed to get a table for us. And seeing as this was more of an international place, breakfast had more of a European feel. The freshly baked rolls looked nice, still warm from baking, so I thought one would be fine with marmalade on. I cut it open only to find it part filled with blue cheese; and I wanted to have marmalade! Oh, what the heck, lets mix flavours, and it came out as being tasty!
I think one of the pleasures of staying in an international place like this hotel, as what people from different countries have for breakfast, and the hotel has to cater for most of them, as all would be impossible I suppose. Most people seem to think coffee is an important part of breakfast, and they would be right of course.
We got our stuff together, ready to brave the madness of the Metro for the first time in 10 days, our route planned; we set off.
Up to now we had seen subway trains with just standing room available, but this was the first time we had seen a train pull in with there no space whatsoever to get on. Some locals did push on, and we saw their faces squashed against the door's windows as the train pulled out. Thankfully, the next one was less full, and we did get one for the few stops before we had to change again.
We arrived at the station near the garden, and the security guard saw us looking at a map and told us to cross the road on street level and then turn right.
Which is what we did, along a shaded promenade walk to the main gate of the park, which only charged 200 Yen to get in. The walks were well signposted, and as we just wanted to see the Japanese garden, we set off through the woods for it. Also in the park were dozens of school parties, all very young children, who had come for some nature-based activities and then a packed lunch.
I suppose what we had hoped for was something akin to the garden at the Imperial Palace, with flowers, insects and ponds. But here there was a pond or two, bridges and paths leading through them, but it lacked the wow factor of the Imperial Palace, and out of blossom season is "just a park". I say that as there isn't a lot of green spaces in downtown Tokyo, but this gives a chance to escape the crowds and have some quiet time, walking through garden or over the grass, maybe have a picnic.
We pause for a cool drink from a vending machine and an ice cream from the small shop.
It was darn hot, so darned hot that by half eleven, we decided not to go to the English garden, which might have been the wrong decision, but then again, it was our holiday, so we get to do what we want.
I was trying to write my blogs out before we left, or at least get the first week written before we left, so I said I would like to spend some time in the hotel with the view, radio and air conditioning on, writing. Jen said she would like to do some last minute shopping and Jools wanted to go back to Beadtown. So it was set, we took the metro back, then walked via a huge subway past shops and yet more vending machines until we came to the correct exit for the hotel.
The afternoon slipped past, I wrote, Jools and Jen shopped. I was writing away when I heard a noise at the window, only to see two blokes cleaning the window via a gondolier. They didn't notice me, and within 15 seconds had moved on to another floor. Just enough time to rattle off a shot or two of them! Always have a camera handy!
Jools came back at something like four, and I needed a drink, so we go down to reception and in the same bar where I had drunk the whisky the night before, they presented me with the cocktail menu. I had always though that Jools would like a White Russian, so I order two, happy that if she didn't like it, I would be able to finish it. Which is what happened. We sat in the bar, chatting to the manager about Tokyo, visitors and the difference between Americans and Brits, and that we may speak the same language but we rarely mean the same thing! He smiled.
Reflected in the building opposite were the colours of sunset. We went round to the other side of the lobby to look and were treated to a wonderful site; the sky was all oranges and reds with the city beginning to light up, and the iconic Tokyo Tower centre. But best of all, on the horizon, poking through some thin clouds was the silhouette of Mt Fuji. And that, seeing the volcano on the very last sunset of the trip, we had crossed the last thing to see off the list. And what a fine end to the holiday. But not quite the end, as there was dinner to seek out.
Jen came down, and we went hunting for dinner. Or somewhere to have it at least. We had in mind more shabu-shabu, and we were sure that we could find somewhere serving that near to the hotel. But then Tokyo seems to be the most people unfriendly place on earth, at least at first. It is all so bewildering, passages and stairways leading in all directions.
We wandered aimlessly, pointing out places that clearly were selling food. But not looking too special, and we felt that the last night should be special.
Down in the subway, we saw an ad for "sky high dining"; eating whilst looking at the city far below sounded wonderful, so went up.
In a place named after Oregon State, we were given a table right by the picture window, with views to a railway station surrounded by skyscrapers. It was perfect. Instead of shabu-shabu, which what had been planned, we had steak, and wine. It was glorious, a fine end to the holiday, the city laid out for our enjoyment before us. Maybe not the best nor cheapest steak in the world, or the city. But with views like that, it hardly mattered.
It has to come to an end of course, and this now had, the final curtain rushed towards us just as we were getting used to Japan. But, we came, saw and enjoyed ourselves. But I yearned to go home, see the cats, have some tea, and just be home in our little piece of England.
There's always next time I suppose.

I'm organizing my vacation up north and I swear it takes me twice as long thanks to Trip Advisor. Just when I think I've found a great place to stay, I check out Trip Advisor to see what others have to say. And there's always that one person who says the bed was hard, the bathroom had bugs, dirty towels and the carpet was stained. I suppose if 90% of the reviews are favorable I shouldn't worry about the one odd ball.
So here I am fielding calls from clients who all want their work done before Christmas while I'm feverishly trying to plan my road trip and get the hell out of here. Having your own business has its pluses and minuses and trying to juggle work and a vacation is a challenge.
UPDATE: Okay so after reading all your posts, I decided to go ahead and book part of my vacation at the Pacific Grove Inn. I wish there was a picture of each room, not just a description, but I'm going to take the plunge, and go by 90% of the reviews and hope this place is as nice as it appears to be.
Sure looks like your typical cookie-cutter franchise, but at one point was in deep trouble. Now it's a jewel in the Hilton Garden Inn crown.

Came to Hilton Garden Inn Seattle North on a Friday for a visit to the Trip Advisor ® Certificate of Excellence winning Future of Flight Museum, the Collings Foundation B-17 ride and the subsequent Saturday Flying Heritage Collection American Airpower Fly Day... very happy I did, got a lot of value for money for an avgeek vacation. The service was great, the sleep was legendary, the food tasted good and I was treated right.
See I came in off of a Skagit Transit County Connector + taxi connection to the hotel and was allowed to stash my bag until I could check into a suite. As documented in the photos, the suite was rather spacious and very clean. I had access to a microwave, coffee machine, refrigerator and a bathroom plus if I choose a nice desk.
Really, truly appreciate the great service from the complimentary shuttle from the hotel to Historic Flight for my B-17 ride. Since the comms to the shuttle to return me were fumbled and I had to wait, I received a complimentary fish & chips dinner. The fish was okay, the fries/chips were great as was the service in the hotel restaurant.
After more photo taking and a stop into the business center (no fee to use their computer to use the Internet briefly), I went up to my suite for the evening. The view from the hotel of the Boeing flightline and the Future of Flight was amazing. The adjustable sleep was so good my cell phone alarm didn't wake me, only the hotel wake-up call service (free) did eight plus hours later.
Decided to hop down to the restaurant for a small cup of coffee, a buttermilk pancake & bacon breakfast. The food was so good, I didn't stop to take a picture until well over half done with my meal.
Finally, I checked out of the hotel and after a $50 hold was released, I received a kind complimentary shuttle to the Flying Heritage Collection for their Fly Day. Took many great photos.
Overall, no issues with the hotel. Best of the best... please if you can, stay here and be kind to the staff.

Prag - Zoo
Prague Zoological Garden (Czech: Zoologická zahrada hl. m. Prahy) is a zoo in Prague, Czech Republic. It was opened in 1931 with the goal to "advance the study of zoology, protect wildlife, and educate the public" in the district of Troja in the north of Prague. In 2013, the zoo occupied 58 hectares (140 acres) with 45 hectares (110 acres) in use for exhibits, and housed around 4,200 animals from just under 650 species, including 132 species listed as threatened.
The zoo is rated as the seventh best zoo in the world by Forbes Travel Guide in 2007, and is rated as the fifth best in the world by TripAdvisor.
The zoo has contributed significantly to saving Przewalski's horse; for many years, it was the leading breeder of the species. Director is Miroslav Bobek.
The idea for a zoological garden in Prague was first proposed in 1881 in a newspaper article by Count Sweerts-Spork, on the occasion of the marriage of Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria and Princess Stéphanie of Belgium.
In 1919, at a meeting of the advisory board for mathematics and natural sciences at the Ministry of Education and National Enlightenment, a committee was established to start the preparatory work on the establishment of the zoo. The zoo was opened to the public on 28 September 1931.
In 1938, the first artificially bred Andean condor in the world was hatched and reared, and the first artificially bred polar bear, a female named Ilun, followed in 1942. In 1959 Dr. Zdeněk Veselovský was appointed as director of the zoo. Under his leadership, the zoo achieved some world-class successes in the area of breeding and scientific research.
In 1971 a new pavilion opened for large mammals, including elephants, hippos and rhinos, followed by a big cat pavilion in 1991.
In 2001 the first artificial breeding of a Przewalski's Horse in the world took place at the zoo.

In 2002 Prague suffered the worst floods in its history. A large part of the zoo was flooded and 134 animals died. Well known is the story of Gaston, a sea lion, which the Vltava and Elbe rivers took to Germany, where Gaston died of total exhaustion. However, thanks to a big wave of solidarity and donations, Prague Zoo greatly flourished in the next decade.
In 2004 the country's largest and most expensive animal pavilion, named the "Indonesian Jungle", was opened, and the first Western gorilla was born in Czech Republic, named Moja. This was followed in 2007 by the first breeding of a Komodo dragon in Prague Zoo. In 2009 a new exhibition for brown fur seals was opened, with an enlarged swimming pool and a grandstand. The following year saw a Texas tortoise bred in Europe for the first time.
In 2011 Moja, a western gorilla famous from the multimedia project The Revealed, was moved to Cabarceno Natural Park in Spain. Four Przewalski's horses were transported to Mongolia to be released into the wild.
In 2012 the zoo saw its highest number of babies born, numbering 1,557 from 211 species, including the world's first breeding of the crowned river turtle and the rufous-cheeked laughingthrush, as well as Prague Zoo's first breeding of the red panda. In 2013 a large new Elephant Valley pavilion was introduced and the first elephant was born in Prague Zoo, named Sita. The zoo was flooded in June the same year for a second time, but most animals were evacuated in time.
In 2014, a pavilion was opened for 33 critically endangered Chinese giant salamanders, including three adults. The collection features the largest of such salamanders in Europe.
After 13 years of waiting, the zoo is among the three unique zoos in the world, which have a breeding pair of Lesser Antillean iguana.

Der Zoo Prag (Zoo Praha) ist der größte Zoo in Tschechien. Er eröffnete verhältnismäßig spät, am 28. September 1931, später als andere tschechische Zoos. Er liegt im Stadtteil Troja an der Moldau, in einem Gebiet, das auch in geologischer und kultureller Hinsicht sowie aus Sicht des Naturschutzes wertvoll ist. Die wahrscheinlich wichtigste Leistung des Prager Zoos ist sein Beitrag zur Rettung des Przewalski-Pferdes. 2015 wurde er von TripAdvisor als viertbester Zoo der Welt ausgezeichnet.
Auf einer Fläche von 58 Hektar (die Ausstellungen bilden 50 Hektar davon) liegt er in einer Landschaft, die von natürlichen Wasserläufen und Bächen durchzogen ist. Im Park leben 4716 Tiere von mehr als 681 Arten (Stand: 31. Dezember 2015). Der Zoo hält typische Besuchermagneten, wie z. B. Asiatische Elefanten, Raubkatzen (Sibirische Tiger, Asiatische Löwen, Amurleoparden, Nebelparder und Geparde), Eurasische Wölfe und Eisbären. Streifenhyänen, Malaienbären und zahlreiche selten gezeigte Huftierarten, wie Westkaukasische Steinböcke, Himalaya-Tahre, Flachland-Anoas, Burma-Leierhirsche, Kiangs, Kulane und Weißnacken-Moorantilopen verdienen ebenfalls Erwähnung. Die neuesten und modernsten Anlagen sind die für die Riesenschildkröten und Gorillas sowie das Afrika-Haus für Erdferkel, Warzenschweine und andere afrikanische Tierarten. Weitere seltene Arten im Zoo Prag sind Malaysia-Tiger, Blauer Leguan, Chinesischer Riesensalamander und Lear-Ara. Angeschlossen ist eine äußerst großzügig gestaltete Freianlage für Rotschildgiraffen, Steppenzebras und afrikanische Antilopenarten. Am 29. November 2004 wurde eines der größten Projekte in der Geschichte der tschechischen Zoos, ein künstlicher indonesischer Regenwald, unter anderem mit Schweinsaffen und Orang-Utans, eröffnet. 2010 wurde für Asiatische Elefanten, Flusspferde, Rappenantilopen und Bongos eine neue, vergrößerte Anlage gebaut. Im Zoo Prag lebt die größte Gruppe von Gangesgavialen in Europa. Für den Chinesischen Riesensalamander, eines der seltensten Wirbeltiere der Erde, wurde 2008 ein eigenes Gebäude errichtet.
Am 13. August 2002 gab es ein heftiges Hochwasser in Prag. Über 1.000 Tiere wurden vor den nahenden Wassermassen in Sicherheit gebracht, 50 Tiere wurden freigelassen. Dennoch starben 134 Tiere in den Fluten, unter anderem der asiatische Elefantenbulle Kadira. Internationale Presseaufmerksamkeit erlangte der Seelöwe Gaston, der über Moldau und Elbe bis nach Deutschland schwamm, jedoch während des Rücktransports nach Prag verendete.
Im Jahre 2005 erhielt in Tschechien (und auch im Ausland) der neugeborene Gorilla Moja große Aufmerksamkeit, das Geschehen im Gorilla-Pavillon konnte per Internet beobachtet werden.

We had thought about it, looked on line, and 2nd on Tripadvisor was Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. And as we enjoyed the gardens at the Imperial Palace, we thought this might be a good idea.
We went down for breakfast at 07:10, and found the restaurant in the middle of the lobby packed, but somehow I managed to get a table for us. And seeing as this was more of an international place, breakfast had more of a European feel. The freshly baked rolls looked nice, still warm from baking, so I thought one would be fine with marmalade on. I cut it open only to find it part filled with blue cheese; and I wanted to have marmalade! Oh, what the heck, lets mix flavours, and it came out as being tasty!
We got our stuff together, ready to brave the madness of the Metro for the first time in 10 days, our route planned; we set off.
Up to now we had seen subway trains with just standing room available, but this was the first time we had seen a train pull in with there no space whatsoever to get on. Some locals did push on, and we saw their faces as the train pulled out. Thankfully, the next one was less full, and we did get one for the few stops before we had to change again.
We arrived at the station near the garden, and the security guard saw us looking at a map and told us to cross the road on street level and then turn right.
Which is what we did, along a shaded promenade walk to the main gate of the park, which only charged 200 Yen to get in. The walks were well signposted, and as we just wanted to see the Japanese garden, we set off through the woods for it. Also in the park were dozens of school parties, all very young children, who had come for some nature-based activities and then a packed lunch.
I suppose what we had hoped for was something akin to the garden at the Imperial Palace, with flowers, insects and ponds. But here there was a pond or two, bridges and paths leading through them, but it lacked the wow factor of the Imperial Palace, and out of blossom season is "just a park". I say that as there isn't a lot of green spaces in downtown Tokyo, but this gives a chance to escape the crowds and have some quiet time, walking through garden or over the grass, maybe have a picnic.
We pause for a cool drink from a vending machine and an ice cream from the small shop.
It was darn hot, so darned hot that by half eleven, we decided not to go to the English garden, which might have been the wrong decision, but then again, it was our holiday, so we get to do what we want.
I was trying to write my blogs out before we left, or at least get the first week written before we left, so I said I would like to spend some time in the hotel with the view, radio and air conditioning, writing. Jen said she would like to do some last minute shopping and Jools wanted to go back to Beadtown. So it was set, we took the metro back, then walked via a huge subway past shops and yet more vending machines until we came to the correct exit for the hotel.
The afternoon slipped past, I wrote, Jools and Jen shopped. I was writing away when I heard a noise at the window, only to see two blokes cleaning the window via a gondolier. They didn't notice me, and within 15 seconds had moved on to another floor. Just enough time to rattle off a shot or two of them!
Jools came back at something like four, and I needed a drink, so we go down to reception and in the same bar where I had drunk the whisky the night before, they presented me with the cocktail menu. I had always though that Jools would like a White Russian, so I order two, happy that if she didn't like it, I would be able to finish it. Which is what happened. We sat in the bar, chatting to the manager about Tokyo, visitors and the difference between Americans and Brits, and that we may speak the same language but we rarely mean the same thing! He smiled.
Reflected in the building opposite were the colours of sunset. We went round to the other side of the lobby to look and were treated to a wonderful site; the sky was all oranges and reds with the city beginning to light up, and the iconic Tokyo Tower centre. But best of all, on the horizon, poking through some thin clouds was the silhouette of Mt Fuji.
Jen came down, and we went hunting for dinner. Or somewhere to have it at least. Down in the subway, we saw an ad for "sky high dining", eating whilst looking at the city far below sounded wonderful, so went up.
In a place named after Oregon State, we were given a table right by the picture window, with views to a railway station surrounded by skyscrapers. It was perfect. Instead of shabu-shabu, which what had been planned, we had steak, and wine. It was glorious, a fine end to the holiday, the city laid out for our enjoyment before us.
It has to come to an end of course, and this now had, the final curtain rushed towards us just as we were getting used to Japan.
There's always next time I suppose.

This is a picture contributed to my TripAdvisor review of the Warwick Hotel. Below is the full text of that review:
After reading recent reviews including the problems w/ the security officer, I expected less. But I got a Deluxe room via "Best Rate Guaranteed" on the hotel website warwickwa.com and also felt I got the best value for money out of rooms available for Seafair 2011. I also asked for a view of the Space Needle. Also told the hotel I did not want but needed a non-smoking room due to allergies and that my bag I dropped off early in my day please be in my room. Got Room #1107 with the stuff in my room I needed, good work Warwick team!
Got to the hotel at about 5:30. Room was very clean, curtains & door to mini-balcony worked very well. View was just spectacular from the room.
However, important to note - the Warwick puts a $50 hold on your card for incidentials. I objected and got locked out of the TV, internet & minibar. Not that I care for the minibar and decided that a netbook was just too heavy to haul around versus a complimentary business center in the hotel to check e-mail, but would have been nice to check KING & KIRO when I got up to see the weather report for Seafair.
Did though appreciate the complimentary Wolfgang Puck coffee & AC outlet for my camera battery charger. You'll see that in one of the pictures I submitted to this review.
Also reserved through the hotel website and a few clicks a seat at breakfast at the hotel restaurant Brasserie Margaux. The country breakfast was great value for money and helped me power through a hot and happily loud Seafair Saturday.
Oh and a word about Seattle and transportation... I am disabled w/o enough income for taxis to chaffeur me around everywhere without some mass transit help. On that note: I walked about 3 blocks 4th & Pine for a great conduit at the Westlake Sound Transit light rail station to major attractions like King Street Station, the stadiums, SeaTac Airport, the Museum of Flight, & the next Seafair in 2012. You may need a taxi connection from the light rail conduit - I would recommend Yellow Cab of Seattle (Warwick has the #) or if you have street addresses instead of just destinations then Sitia may work out as well as a backup.
Overall, the hotel did very good. Especially the concierge, front desk & restaurant. I am already mentally planning the next trip with this as the hotel.
Room Tip: Get the best available rate from hotel website... & make sure to note NON-smoking preference
