Dit jaar was het weer lekker druk en gezellig tijdens het traditionele Netwerk023 nieuwjaars event. Natuurlijk wilden we elkaar graag weer eens zien, maar er werden ook nog eens een flinke stapel trends gepresenteerd door verschillende experts vanuit het netwerk.

Trends are changing in Northern Uganda where in the past, men are the ones who used to fend for the families but ever since peace returned to this Northern part of the pearl of Africa, traditions and norms have changed. In a small village called Palabek Kal in Lamwo district, Northern Uganda, we are a group of women by the name "ATUTE KI CINGA WOMEN'S GROUP" who have started a project called "Promotion of Arts and Crafts for Rural Women Development" We are mainly widows carrying out the task of looking after our families. With the current poor weather patterns that have limited agricultural activities in the region, has left us with no options but to look for other alternative means to survive. "ATUTE KI CINGA" meaning "I struggle with my hands" Women group have seen hope in clay and with God's gift of hands, being hard working women who have been making a living out of clay through our clay modeling skills. In a day, we make up to 15 pots of different sizes. We are known all over the sub-county for making very attractive pots that is selling like hot cakes. Our vision is to become independent women by improving on our income earnings and averting hunger and poverty in our households and the the region at large.
