3 Luxury Business Trends to Watch
We've known for some time that niche fragrances are becoming more popular with shoppers, a trend coupled with the fall of the celebrity perfume. According to Bain's research, exclusive and artisanal brands are currently outperforming the rest of the...
I put together this trend-spotting sheet to highlight some forth-coming trendiness.
Popular colors and trends almost always start with the fashion world and then trickle down to interiors and finally graphic design. As a graphic designer myself, I want to be two steps ahead and catch the trends before new ones are already made. So, though this sheet features the world of high fashion, it does apply to you; either the color you should paint your walls, the style of shirt you should buy, or even the next haircut you should get.
Check back for more later.

i tend to scribble when i drink, a few martinis in me and im rambling about something...
Here we talked about how to spot trends that could be unfolding before your very eyes and you simply need to tune into what data is coming in.
Dave works at a Starbucks, he's been the point man at the drive thru for a few years now. So we talked about that, what do you see being the point man. You see soooo many customers everyday, what patterns do you see?
Most Popular drink. $3.75,
Venti 3 Pump No Whip Non Fat Mocha. Also known as the soccer mom mocha.
They "do it all" dave says.
They all drive thru in vans and suvs.
They always have errands to run.
They are 30-40 years old.
( then the bartender chimed in... our most popular drink is the cosmo.. since yer talking about most popular stuff and alll )
70% of the time they have kids with them.
So what can we do with this data, not really all that complete but you could venture forth a bit with this info. We did, we thought about where the cash trend could be in this line of data, minus the cosmo yet thats interesting. Stuff for the van, the car, big market really, back again to the idea of accessories. How do you make the soccer mom more at one with herself in her domain, her van, her suv.
And where do they go? Autozone? I think not. Nope, the go to Target, Coach? Is there an upscaleness aspect to their van errand running do it all daily life? The simple pleasures of excess? Maybe.
Citi Trends (13,150 square feet)
4027 West Mercury Boulevard, Hampton Plaza, Hampton, VA
Opened in 2004, renovated in January 2020; originally part of GEX (August 9th, 1962-1977), later Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre (May 1982-1993), Chuck E. Cheese's (1993-May 2002)
In years past I've visited Citi Trends to get some pairs of jeans for myself, and with the cold winter season coming up I figured it was time to pick up a few more. And while I left here empty handed due to not being able to find my size, I did document their salesfloor since it got a refresh almost three years ago. Oh, and did I mention that this was my childhood Chuck E. Cheese's? Yezzir!
The Pizza Time Theatre opened in May 1982 by Family Entertainment Centers Inc., a franchisee based out of Maryland that operated a handful of locations in that state, as well as the original two RVA locations and Hampton Roads' other locations (Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach). Most of their restaurants shuttered in 1984-1985 during the company's bankruptcy, but Hampton proved to be one of the franchisee's most successful units so they weathered the storm (though I believe another franchisee may have acquired it around that time). The location kept most of its' original appearance until the late 1990s, when they received a "Phase 3" renovation that looked similar to this location. It was also during that time that Hampton Towne Centre was developed a little further north, and a few years later in 2002 a new Chuck E. Cheese's was built on a vacant plot of land next to the center's T.J. Maxx store. That newer restaurant is slightly larger and is in a more viable location, next to a thriving AMC theater and visible from I-64 running behind it. It also would appear that they were operating on a 5-10 year lease in Hampton Plaza, and with the May 2002 renewal approaching they decided to terminate it and move to the new building instead. And after that series of events Citi Trends came and took over their old space.
The sad but expected part is that Citi Trends gutted the entire building, with zero traces of CEC left unless you wanna count the drop ceiling. The last time I was here during the CEC days was probably in 2001, so my memory is a little hazy about the store's layout, but I'll do my best to describe where things were. The location had its' entrance in the center of the storefront, with sections divided into two. In this photo I'm standing in the left front corner of the building, and ahead of me would've been where the ordering counter, prize wall, salad bar, kitchen, and restrooms would've been located. Behind them was a small pocket of space housing coin-op style rides. The right side of the building was opened up for the games/rides floor, with the Skytubes situated almost dead center (somewhere near where the "girls" and "plus size" signs are hanging now). And the showroom consumed the entire back wall, pretty much the entirety of Citi Trends' stockroom now. The best comparison I can make to currently operating CECs would be a location like Whitehall, PA or Cherry Hill, NJ, but due to Hampton opening as a Pizza Time Theatre it's not the exact same. I tell ya what, if I had a time machine then this old CEC would be one of the places I'd visit, because it sure did leave an impression on me even twenty some years later!

It's no secret that floral is big this season. One flower I've grown attracted to is the vibrant red poppy.

HAIR TODAY GONE TOMORROW
A new trend has appeared to have hit Tinseltown - with more female celebs shaving their heads in the name of art than ever before. Cameron Diaz is the latest actress to try out the bald look for her new movie My Sister's Keeper - but her blonde locks are safely tucked underneath a flesh-coloured cap, just like Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin in Coneheads. Diaz follows in the footsteps of Demi Moore, who shaved her head for G.I. Jane; Sigourney Weaver for Alien 3; Natalie Portman, who got the clippers out for V For Vendetta; Persis Khambatta for Star Trek: The Motion Picture; and Samantha Morton for Minority Report. The head-shaving ritual is also given a nod in TV culture with Kim Cattrall losing her blonde 'do in Sex & The City and a famous scene in Friends when Ross' girlfriend gets razor-happy. Emma Thompson also lopped off her locks for her role in HBO series Wit and so did Felicity Huffman in Desperate Housewives. The music industry is also littered with bald babes - most noticeably Skunk Anansie's Skin and Sinead O'Connor. Another famous hairless wonder is TV presenter Gail Porter, who lost her hair to alopecia. (LR/WN/TN)
