Guardsman Pass is closed to cars for the winter due to snow – this spot is 1KM (.62 miles) in. This open field gave a nice few of freshly covered snow trees.

An old dead tree out back is a favorite spot for the many species of woodpeckers that live in my woods, including this female red belly.
Driving along the loch side from Balmaha I was teased by some strong sunlight breaking through the murk making me speed up a little, unfortunately within 10 minutes of arriving and setting up my gear the light was more subdued but I was treated to a brief hint of colour escaping under the cloud layer, I'll try not to wait another 4 years before Im back here to try again!.
I photographed the trees with a light tele lens and an open aperture to create a dreamy effect through a shallow depth of field. At the screen I saw that it was, for my taste, not enough to get the effect I was after, so I added some selective blur at the computer :)

Planted Fall 2006 along with Quercus agrifolia (Coast Live Oak tress) at the east perimeter of the property along Highway 1. These large tree-like shrubs are native to the nearby Channel Islands.
Flowering Spike of a Grass Tree (probably Xanthorrhoea preissei). Found growing near the near the coast west of Busselton, Western Australia.

Going after a previously stored snack in the granary tree. Acorn Woodpeckers live year-round in oak and pine-oak woodlands of western Oregon, California, and the Southwest through Mexico and Central America. In the fall, acorns are stored in tree trunks to be used year round.

A unique looking tree. I think it's a bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) - a deciduous conifer.
